Aaru

Aaru, also referred to as the "far side of Eternity,"[1] is a location related to Sumeru, created by King Deshret as an unfinished form of afterlife. It is described as the final land of dreams for all desert dwellers. It is originally encountered unopened during the world quest Dual Evidence.
After the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act X - Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana, it serves as a repository for all of the information and memories contained within the Ley Lines, replacing the destroyed Irminsul's functions.
Overview
Aaru was originally designed by King Deshret through the use of celestial technology, provided illicitly by the angel Nabu Malikata. Due to her transgression, she was summarily executed by the Heavenly Principles.
The purpose of Aaru has been described as creation of a new afterlife, that could grant humanity freedom from the dangers of Teyvat and its gods. Due to complexity of the project, Aaru was never fully finished priot to the Archon Quest.
King Deshret once imprisoned three of his Seven Pillars, Thoth, Sobek and Heryshaf[2] within Aaru. Thoth refers to Aaru as "closed off,” and but it was still possible to enter it as a disembodied soul, such as Samail and Jebrael in the World Quest Series Golden Slumber.
While Aaru's exact nature is mostly unknown, it possesses a similar architecture to the Akasha System and can be considered its predecessor. Thoth mentioned that he and his fellow prisoners have pastimes including but not limited to chess.[3] Their spirits could leave Aaru to some extent, taking control of the bodies of nearby wildlife such as cats. However, their bodies could not be freed from Aaru unless they were given the answer to three questions: "What causes our rise and fall?," "What obliterates loves and hate?," and "What determines truth and falsehood?" Over the millennia, there have been unsuccessful attempts to answer all three questions, by Goudarz, Makhaira, and Nefer, respectively.[4]
During the events of Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana, the trapped members of Seven Pillars were freed after Nefer successfully answered the questions with the answer intended by King Deshret (the answer being "time" for all three questions) and relocated to the Temple of Silence. Aaru was then reconstructed and reprogrammed to serve as an information repository for the Ley Lines after the Irminsul was destroyed by Lesser Lord Kusanali.[3]
It is implied by the Belyi Tsar's notes that the ultimate purpose of Aaru as a replacement hub for the Ley Lines was in fact the original reason Nabu Malikata enabled its creation in the first place: "the Goddess of Flowers in Sumeru ... sought to build [a system] that would stand independent of both the Ley Lines and Heimarmene." He states that such projects have had a cumulative effect on the governance of the Heavenly Principles, subverting Fate and changing the outcome of several prophecies. Notably, the prophesied corruption of Sumeru by Il Dottore was averted precisely due to the intervention of the Aaru system, supporting the Tsar's conclusion. Indeed, now that Aaru has replaced Irminsul, the Heavenly Principles no longer has direct control over Fate.[3]

Etymology
- The term "Aaru" is derived from ancient Egyptian mythology, referring to a location known also as Aaru where the Egyptian god of the dead Osiris rules, further suggesting that it is some form of afterlife.
