Drifting Toward a Promised Sky is a World Quest in Maroon Basin, Nod-Krai.

Start the quest by approaching the fallen jellyfish behind a barrier in Maroon Basin.

Gameplay Notes

From step 3 onwards, most of Maroon Basin becomes a (red) Strong Kuuvahki Environment. This effect persists after completing the quest.
Completing this quest awards the Wonders of the World achievement Silent Spring.

Dialogue

Quest Description

You find a jellyfish collapsed on the ground in a Fatui base. What could've happened to it?

(Approach the large barrier): Paimon: Ah! It looks like something's trapped inside!

(Approach the jellyfish)

Paimon: It's all limp and floppy... like someone dropped a Valberry Jelly right here on the floor. Paimon nearly didn't notice it when we passed by earlier.

Paimon: It doesn't seem to have noticed us... Is it taking a nap?

Jellyfish don't have brains, so they probably don't need sleep...

Paimon: What!? N—No brain... There's really a creature with no brain!?

Paimon: But even without a brain, it looks like it can still feel pain... Paimon gets the impression it isn't very happy.

Paimon: We've got to get this barrier open and see if it's okay! But how are we supposed to do that?

It looks like we need a working brain. So I guess it's on me...

Paimon: Hmph! You make it sound like Paimon's brain doesn't work...

If it really was a jelly, you'd know what to do, huh?

Paimon: Hmph! Paimon's just not good at solving puzzles, that's all. But when it comes to finding tasty stuff... you've got nothing on Paimon, (‍‍)!

(Unlock the door)

Paimon: They seriously left the key right by the door...? The Fatui here aren't exactly the brightest, huh?

Since they're the enemy, I'm fine with them being a little stupid.

Paimon: Right! If they were clever and actually tried, we'd never have found that key so easily!

Paimon: Then that jellyfish... Hmm, how about we call it "Valberry Jelly"? ...It might not have made it out in time...

You're sharper than all those clueless Fatui, Paimon!

Paimon: That doesn't sound like much of a compliment to Paimon...

Paimon: If Paimon hadn't noticed this little puddle of Valberry Jelly... Hey, that's what we should call it! ...We probably would've missed the chance to save it, right?

Paimon: Anyway, the barrier's open, so why's it still lying there?

The rescued jellyfish tries to move, but its body gives out, and it collapses back onto the ground...

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: I—It still looks like it's in pain... Paimon thought it was because of the barrier...

Maybe the kuuvahki is just too weak around here.

Paimon: Are you not sensing much kuuvahki, (‍‍)?

Paimon: You've been sensing it just fine since we arrived in Nod-Krai.

Paimon: Could it be feeling this way because the environment suddenly changed?

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: Hang in there. We'll find a way to get you out of here!

Paimon: Come on, (‍‍), think of something!

Paimon: Th—That's only because the situation's desperate! That little jelly's just barely hanging on!

Paimon: It must be because those nasty machines the Fatui set up are totally messing up the environment! Let's shut them all down!

All the equipment here needs to be provided with kuuvahki via the separator. DO NOT do it the other way around!

(Shut down the machine): Paimon: Wow, Valberry Jelly is floating! This must be what you're really like, huh? Paimon knew those nasty machines had something to do with it!; Paimon: Is it trying to lead us somewhere? Let's follow and see.

(Follow "Valberry Jelly" to the large shell)

Paimon: Valberry Jelly's slipped into that big shell... and ooh, is that something buried under the sand? A thank-you gift, maybe?

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: Aww, it really was a gift! Valberry Jelly does have good manners!

It seems like you two can communicate just fine.

Paimon: We're both good kids with simple hearts. We don't need words to understand each other.

How do you communicate without talking?

Paimon: You always overthink everything! Paimon and Valberry Jelly are just good kids with simple hearts. We don't need words to understand each other.

Paimon: It must want to say, "Thank you for saving me! This beach is full of hidden treasures. Go ahead, please take them all!"

"Valberry Jelly": ...

I guess I've got no choice but to trust your jellyfish-speak.

Paimon: What jellyfish-speak...? Paimon told you, no words were needed! And of course you should trust Paimon.

Well, if Valberry Jelly insists...

Paimon: Then Valberry Jelly can rest here while we check out what treasures are hiding under the sand!

(Remove the small sand pile nearby, optional): Paimon: Hehe, there's some good stuff here! Let's see what the other sand piles contain!

(Remove the large sand pile nearby)

(A pallid jellyfish is uncovered from the sand)

Paimon: There's a jellyfish buried here! And it's still alive!

Paimon: So it wanted us to save its friends? Hmm... Paimon completely misunderstood what Valberry Jelly was trying to say...

(A recon bot flies over and suppresses "Valberry Jelly")

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: It's one of the Fatui's nasty machines! Shoo, shoo! Paimon's not gonna let you hurt Valberry Jelly!

(Destroy the recon bots)

(The pallid jellyfish collapses)

Paimon: W—We didn't make it in time... Hmm, is Valberry Jelly mourning its friends?

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: Do jellyfish really not have the ability to think? It sure looks sad to Paimon...

Perhaps emotions don't require thoughts.

Paimon: You're right, (‍‍). You can't just think your way out of feeling sad.

Paimon: Maybe feelings like that... just rise up on their own, from somewhere deep inside us.

Paimon: You look so sad... No tears, no words, not even a sound... Poor thing. What can we do to make you feel better?

There might be other jellyfish that still need our help.

Paimon: Y—You're right... So many of them have already... met their jelly molds... The Fatui really don't care at all what happens to them!

Paimon: This place is huge. There's gotta be tons of those nasty machines around. We can't let the jellyfish be abandoned on the beach like this!

Paimon: Paimon's certain Valberry Jelly can't be the only jellyfish trapped in this base. Let's go find the others!

"Valberry Jelly": ...

(Approach the small barrier): Paimon: Hey, looks like there's something inside that barrier over there!

(Approach the trapped jellyfish): Paimon: There's another trapped jellyfish, and it doesn't look healthy. Come on, we've gotta get it out!

(Talk to the trapped jellyfish, optional): Trapped Jellyfish: ...; Trapped Jellyfish: (It seems to have no energy left... It needs to be rescued.)

(Approach the incoming enemies): Paimon: Ugh, those nasty machines... You're about to get what's coming to you! ...Hmph, they still look so smug!; Paimon: Maybe they're hiding the key!

(After defeating the enemies)

(A recon bot flies in)

Paimon: That nasty machine seems to be carrying something... Ah! It's the key to the barrier!

(Destroy the recon bot): Paimon: C'mon, let's go rescue Valberry Jelly's friends!

(Interact with the Patrol Records, optional): Patrol Records

Patrolling personnel: Riku. Morning. No abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Dima. Afternoon. A Tassel Jelly somehow got inside the barrier. It was released. Other than that, no abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Riku. Night, *yawn* ... Another Tassel Jelly jammed itself in the barrier. How are they getting in!? Released that one as well. No abnormalities otherwise.
Patrolling personnel: Dima. Morning. Riku, did you not release that jellyfish!? How is it still in there? Did you just forget to do it because you were too sleepy? Also, I forgot to bring my ID card... somehow. I can't be arsed to go get it, so you release it in the afternoon. No abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Riku. Afternoon. I could've sworn I released it... Maybe I missed something... I'll pay more attention next time. *sigh* Spent quite a bit of time clearing the jellyfish. No abnormalities otherwise.
Patrolling personnel: Dima. Night. Bah, this sucks! I didn't get a wink of sleep all night... Every time I patrolled, I would find more jellyfish inside the barrier. Also, I keep forgetting to bring my ID card... I've hidden one nearby. Should make it easier to open the door... I'll tell you where it is later. No other abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Riku. Morning, no abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Dima. Afternoon, no abnormalities.
Patrolling personnel: Riku. Night. Found several jellyfish lying around. Released them all. The ones who couldn't leave, I disposed of... No abnormalities otherwise.
Patrolling personnel: Dima. Morning. The higher-ups said to leave the matter of the jellyfish to the recon bots. No abnormalities.

Paimon: Wow! Paimon didn't know Valberry Jelly had that kind of power. It looks like the rest of this rescue mission's gonna be an easy-peasy piece of cake!

But... don't you think it's looking a bit pale?

Paimon: Hmm... You're right, it does look paler now. It looks weaker than before, too.

But... It looks way weaker than before.

Paimon: Did it use up all its strength just now? No, no, that can't be it! Valberry Jelly was already running low on energy...

(The trapped jellyfish collapses)

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: In the end... W—We still couldn't make it in time...

"Valberry Jelly": ...

Paimon: Are you angry? Or sad? Or not feeling well? Hmm, it doesn't seem like any of those... Ugh, this is so frustrating! How are we supposed to know what it's trying to say?

Paimon: Does that mean... even though we couldn't save its friends, it still wants to thank us? Valberry Jelly...

Paimon: It seems like jellyfish have more heart than the Fatui ever will. Those guys build all those horrible machines, and they don't care about life one bit!

Paimon: So really, who's the one with no brain?

(After the cutscene): Paimon: Are there more friends trapped around here? We'll make sure we get there in time to save them this time!

(Approach the next trapped jellyfish): Paimon: There's another one! Awesome, we've got to save it this time!; Paimon: Don't open that by yourself! We're almost there! Whatever you do, don't use up your strength!; "Valberry Jelly": ...

(Approach the marked location inside the building)

Paimon: Huh? The barrier suddenly activated! Oh no... we're locked in!

Paimon: No way... Even Valberry Jelly and the others got knocked to the ground... How dare they!

Paimon: Wh—What do we do now?! We're trapped too. How are we supposed to help the jellies like this...?

Don't worry. As long as I'm here, we're sure to get out of this.

It's not the first time we've encountered trouble, after all. Just stay calm.

Paimon: Being stuck with (‍‍) isn't so scary. But Paimon's worried about Valberry Jelly and the others...

Paimon: Umm, since Valberry Jelly and Paimon can both fly, th—then maybe Paimon might be able to do the same thing Valberry Jelly did, right?

I should have upheld meticulousness and adherence to duty when showing the rookie soldier around, and thus set a good example, but my flagrant carelessness, combined with the new recruit Riku's over-enthusiastic, self-taught usage of the recon bots to meddle with the settings of the authorization terminal, thus causing the accident. I have betrayed your trust in me, and the Tsaritsa's expectations of us all! I have deeply reflected on my actions and strictly reprimanded Riku. Even now, I keep a watchful eye on him.

As part of carrying out your order to "kick Dima back to start over from the rookie training class," I shall lock myself inside the barrier and observe the Tassel Jellies for an entire night. Just as they, in their last moments of life, shall fly up into the skies and return with their youth renewed, I shall use this opportunity to regain my footing, rebuilding and reshaping my person in the likeness of myself as a trainee, fresh and filled with passion for our great work.

("Valberry Jelly" gets up from the ground and bows)

Paimon: Paimon heard that when a Tassel Jelly reaches the end of its life, it can start over as a little jellyfish, so long as it makes it back to the sky. Paimon wonders if that's really true...

That's probably why it was so desperate to rescue its friends.

Paimon: Oh, yeah... If they stayed trapped inside those barriers, they wouldn't be able to fly back to the sky.

I want to believe it's true.

Paimon: Paimon wants to believe it, too! After all, Valberry Jelly really did have mysterious powers.

Paimon: So those two we saved earlier must be with Valberry Jelly right now, right?

Paimon: Hmm... (‍‍), do you think it'll remember us when it grows up again?

Probably not.

Paimon: *sigh* Well, it doesn't have a brain, after all. But maybe it keeps important memories somewhere else instead?

Maybe it will.

Paimon: Yeah, Paimon thinks so too! Valberry Jelly will remember us, just like how we'll remember it.

We probably wouldn't recognize it either, would we?

Paimon: It's no biggie if it doesn't recognize us! We didn't help it just to be remembered, after all. We'll just introduce ourselves all over again next time!
