In Kʼicheʼ Maya, Juyubal is a title used for the Christian God as the guardian of mountains, derived from the word juyub meaning "hill, mountain, unpopulated area." Jayubal is a variant of this title used in other Mayan languages, such as Qʼanjobʼal.
