Jianqiu

Jianqiu is an open-world NPC found near the Teleport Waypoint at Stone Gate. He can be found sitting with Huachu, drinking Pops Zhou's tea.

Jianqiu was an arithmetic teacher at Chihu Rock. At some point before the Traveler arrives in Liyue, he and Huachu fell in love, but her father Gentry De'an refused to acknowledge Jianqiu due to his relatively low social standing.[1] They decided to elope by faking Huachu's death. After obtaining a corpse through unknown means, they dressed it up as Huachu and left it inside the well at Feiyun Slope.[2] This polluted the water supply, leading the Millelith to discover it and conclude that Huachu committed suicide. Unaware that she was actually alive and well, Gentry De'an grieved and decided to sell the Minghua Bank's facilities to pay for her funeral.[1][3]
The two have stayed at Stone Gate since then, implied to be due to Huachu's reluctance to leave Liyue. As part of their cover story, Jianqiu claims to be the Assistant Shopkeeper of Minghua Bank, unaware that Gentry De'an has already sold it off.
During the Traveler's first Lantern Rite Festival, Huachu grew homesick and wanted to see the Xiao Lanterns. Unable to enter Liyue Harbor without exposing their ruse, she and Jianqiu roamed the city outskirts when they passed Mr. Zhu, who invited them to rest at the Emerald Maple Inn. After eating and lighting some Xiao Lanterns, the two leave without staying the night. Mr. Zhu suspects the couple's story, but decides not to investigate the matter further.[4]

- Jianqiu: Dunno, maybe Celestia.
- Jianqiu: Heh. Just joking. I'm not supposed to let people know where we're headed, I'm afraid, sorry about that.
