Minghua Company

The Minghua Company (Chinese: 明华商行 Mínghuá Shāngháng) and Minghua Bank (Chinese: 明华钱庄 Mínghuá Qiánzhuāng) were two entities owned by Gentry De'an which flourished a decade ago. However, the Fatui's increasing involvement in Liyue's economy led them to undercut De'an's businesses and force their way into Liyue's market.^[1]

After the supposed death of De'an's beloved daughter Huachu, De'an sold the Minghua Bank to the Fatui to pay for her funeral. While the Minghua Company is still around, De'an bemoans its languishing business.

Story

Within the past ten years, the Northland Bank obtained a foothold in Liyue Harbor, cutting into the Minghua Bank's business. At some point after Huachu's disappearance,^[2] Minghua Bank's unprofitability led Gentry De'an to sell it to the Northland Bank; the Minghua Company still exists, but its business is languishing.^[3] After Huachu's "corpse" was discovered to be the reason for the water contamination at a Feiyun Slope well,^[4] Gentry De'an decided to sell the bank's former building to pay for her funeral.^[5]

Gentry De'an believes that his refusal to acknowledge Huachu's relationship with Jianqiu, a poor arithmetic teacher, had driven her to suicide,^[6] oblivious to the fact that Huachu is actually still alive — the corpse was someone else's disguised as hers while she and Jianqiu eloped. The Traveler encounters them at Stone Gate, where they give cryptic and guarded answers about their destination and the purpose of their trip. Jianqiu also introduces himself as an employee of the Minghua Bank, apparently unaware that it no longer exists.^[7]

During the Event World Quest Lantern Rite, Big Business? in Lantern Rite Tales, Huachu and Jianqiu briefly return to the outskirts of Liyue Harbor, as Huachu had grown homesick and wished to watch the Mingxiao Lantern. They stop at the Emerald Maple Inn, where Jianqiu once again claims that he is an employee of the Minghua Bank accompanying the daughter of its owner. Mr. Zhu, aware of both Huachu's supposed death and the Minghua Bank's closure, grows suspicious but ultimately decides not to pry into their affairs, and the two promptly leave the inn anyways.
