The Other Side of the Sky
The Traveler and Paimon discover a more powerful, flame-infused form of Pyrophosphorite, which the Little One can safely handle. They soon reunite with Bona, who reveals that they have reached the Tonatiuh. Bona theorizes that the Jade of Return is sealed within a strange rock that cannot be broken by force, and identifies a nearby mechanism similar to an Altar of Primal Flame. Using Firestones, special variants of Pyrophosphorite found across the Tonatiuh, the group activates the Altar of Primal Flame and breaks the strange rock to obtain the Jade of Return.
(Dialogue differs based on player progress)
- If the player has not completed World Quest Series Between Pledge and Forgettance: They find the "Jade of Return," which Paimon notes looks like a food platter.
- If the player has completed World Quest Series Between Pledge and Forgettance: Paimon and the Traveler immediately recognize the ite and identify it as another Golden Entreaty, identical to the one they found in the Sage's ruins. They realize this is the "treasure" the evil dragon has been after.
Upon acquiring the treasure, Bona begins acting strangely, expressing familiarity with the location and warning the Traveler of a trap before losing composure. As she attempts to alert the group, the Dragon of the City of Flowing Ash appears and seizes the Golden Entreaty, prompting the Traveler and Paimon to give chase alongside Cocouik.
Moment of Awakening
After catching up to the dragon, the Traveler and Paimon confront it and use Cocouik to strike it, creating an opening that leads to the Nursery of Nightmares. As the Traveler approaches the unconscious dragon, they hear a voice identifying itself as Och-Kan, the former ruler of Ochkanatlan. The voice reveals that its soul was corrupted by poison and transformed into a dragon, and asks for help in purging the corruption. During the ensuing battle, the dragon awakens as Och-Kan, retaining memories from both its past and its time as Cocouik.
Och-Kan explains that the Golden Entreaty is a powerful yet dangerous item capable of cleansing Natlan's Abyssal filth, albeit at a cost, and that both he and the Little One share the Flamelord's Blessing. To remove this blessing, two Golden Entreaties must be brought to the sacred mountain. However, his memories remain fragmented, preventing him from fully explaining the artifact's true purpose. To provide answers, Och-Kan allows the Traveler to enter his memories.
Within Och-Kan's memories, Kukulkan confronts Och-Kan, urging him to abandon his ideals and accept a world shaped by dragons rather than humans. Kukulkan reveals that Och-Kan carries the blood of the Flamelord and accuses him of betraying both dragonkind and Xbalanque's oath to Kukulkan, arguing that his attempt to establish a human-centered kingdom led to disaster. Kukulkan proposes activating Huitzilopochtli by combining the Golden Entreaties, claiming it would bring about a new civilization surpassing both dragons and humans, even if it results in widespread destruction. Och-Kan refuses, affirming his belief in humanity and rejecting a future without them. Disappointed, Kukulkan denounces Och-Kan's hope as misguided but acknowledges it as a defining human trait. The encounter ends with Kukulkan departing, warning that he will return to claim Och-Kan's soul as part of his ongoing experiment. The memories further reveal that the legend of the Jade of Return was fabricated by Kukulkan.
Within the memories, the Traveler also sees Taika and his expedition team made up of Copan, Titu, and Legba ascend the Tonatiuh in search of the Jade of Return, only to fall victim to Kukulkan's trap. Years later, Taika's daughter, Bona, followed in his footsteps and reached the Tonatiuh with Cocouik by her side, likewise falling into the same trap, though not before managing to dismantle it.
As they are returning, the Traveler and Paimon realize that the Little One may be in danger and decide to return to the Tonatiuh. They resolve to keep the Golden Entreaty and bring it to the volcano, while also questioning Bona's true nature and connection to the past.
