Project Moongazer

The group, consisting of the Traveler, Paimon, Eggie, and Columbina, arrives at the Dark Side of the Moon to investigate the mysteries of Project Moongazer and the missing dragon Ninnin. They navigate a high-security, dragon-built base filled with searchlights, patrol drones, and complex traps. During their infiltration, Eggie accesses a terminal and discovers that the base was constructed by a "Lord of Darkness" to serve as a space-based weapon powered by the moon's core. The group realizes this entity is likely the returning dragon king, Nibelung. While examining the facility's data, Columbina suddenly vanishes, having been drawn into the moon's core by its ancient energy after using her kuuvahki abilities.

Determined to find her and uncover the truth, the group proceeds to Lusalim's laboratory. There, they read logs revealing that Lusalim was the chief architect of Project Moongazer and that Eggie is actually Ninnin, Lusalim's "daughter" and a true child of the stars. A recorded message from Lusalim explains that the project's ultimate goal was to send a message of hope and life into the universe, entrusting its completion to Ninnin. Upon learning her true identity, Eggie is confused by her lack of memories but resolves to continue her mission. The group decides they must descend to the moon's core to retrieve the key needed to activate the project.

As they approach the core, the environment becomes unstable with shifting gravity states. Columbina reappears, explaining that she was swept into the core earlier and learned the truth about Eggie's nature and mission. She reveals that Ninnin cannot survive inside the moon's core and that the final step of Project Moongazer must be completed at the Eye of Ibni-Belum. Columbina offers to retrieve the necessary data key from the core herself. Paimon chooses to stay behind with Eggie to keep her safe and company while awaiting the arrival of another character, Maagees. The Traveler and Columbina then descend together into the moon's core to retrieve the key, concluding the quest.

Project Moongazer

The journey reaches the moon's core, the launch silo of a weapon once reforged by a Dragon Lord of Darkness to fire upon Teyvat. Though the weapon was defeated by the Heavenly Principles, the Traveler and Columbina navigate the facility's shifting gravity and defeat a guardian known as the "Warden of the Flame" using Archaeolune Energy. Upon reaching the heart of the core, they discover it is the seat of the moon's will and the origin point of Project Moongazer. Here, they encounter a recording of Nin-Kiggia, known as Ninnin, who explains that she left an imprint to guide future inheritors. She reveals that the Traveler has encountered previous reincarnations of the moon's researchers—such as Ibni-Belum, Ungien, and Maagees—and that Eggie is the latest lifeform created from their merged data, born specifically to complete the mission of transmitting a message into the universe.

The group returns to The Eye of Ibni-Belum to discuss the mission's implications. While transmitting the message risks exposing Teyvat to the "darkness" of the cosmos, Eggie expresses a willingness to sacrifice herself to fulfill her purpose, echoing the sentiments of her predecessors who believed that courage and light must persist even in a dark forest universe. Columbina proposes a compromise: she will use her power as the Moon Goddess to shield the signal as it passes through the false sky, erasing traces of the transmission if danger approaches. Accepting this plan, Eggie delivers a final, emotional broadcast to the stars, listing the names of all the Moongazers who came before her and hoping her message of connection inspires other civilizations. Her physical form dissolves, leaving only her hat behind, while her signal travels safely into the void.

The transmission triggers a sealed data segment containing the original reply received by the Traveler and their sibling thousands of years ago. The message, sent by their sibling (Aether or Lumine), thanks the moon's inhabitants for their bravery, comparing their signal to a bonfire in a dark forest, and promises to find them once their own troubles are resolved. In the aftermath, the Traveler, Paimon, and Columbina visit the Traveler's Crater ship. Columbina reflects on the nature of the starry sky and the possibility of other untouched civilizations, while the Traveler confirms they once received a nearly meaningless message from their home world. The pair share a tender moment discussing the Traveler's eventual return to their destroyed home, agreeing to one day hold a "Home-Returning Night" party with friends once the journey is complete.
