Violetta

Violetta Spessiva is Odette's mother and a former ballerina at the Korolevskiy Theater. She appears in Character Teaser - "Odette: An Illusion of Gentle Snow".

Violetta's grief over her husband's abrupt passing caused her to suffer a career-ending injury. Against her mother's wishes, Odette accepted Signora's offer to join the Fatui as compensation for the family's sudden loss of income.^[2]

Profile

Violetta was an acclaimed ballerina at the Korolevskiy Theater and inherited the classic Snezhnayan ballet "Spirit Seeker" from her family. A fateful fall left her disabled and unable to continue in her occupation;^[3] she had already begun teaching Odette ballet before that happened,^[1] so she then focused on Odette's ballet instruction.^[2]

Many ballet fans like analyzing and comparing Violetta and Odette's dancing styles.^[3] Dorofeya, a former star at the Korolevskiy Theater and Violetta's coworker, prefers Violetta's dancing and describes her as a "monstrously gifted dancer."^[4] Pisemsky refers to Violetta's dance as "absolute classic restraint," comparing Odette's style favorably as "martial restraint."^[3]

Story

Violetta is a member of the Spessiva family, a long lineage of performers at the Korolevskiy Theater — although its glory days had long passed, and she and her husband were only barely able to remain in the family home with their combined income. Nonetheless, the couple was deeply in love and had a daughter, Odette, who grew up to aspire to become a ballerina herself.^[1]

However, early into the implementation of Project Stuzha, her husband died on the line of duty. Despite her grief, Violetta returned to the theater to continue practicing. During the performance, however, she grew distracted and fell, sustaining a major injury which left her wheelchair-bound and prevented her from returning to ballet. As per Capitano's instructions, a deceased Fatuus' commanding officer was responsible for ensuring the surviving family's accommodations and providing assistance where needed. As such, the duty of ensuring Violetta and Odette's wellbeing fell on Signora; seeing that Violetta no longer had an income, Signora offered to recruit Odette into the Fatui.^[2][5] While Violetta was opposed, Odette insisted on taking the offer; Signora, too proud to rescind her offer, acquiesced to Odette's wishes.^[2]

While Violetta personally performed "Spirit Seeker" — a classic ballet passed down through the Spessiva family — while she was still a ballerina, she never taught the dance to Odette.^[6] It is unclear how involved she has been in Odette's attempt to revive the ballet.
