Showdown at the Town

Whose Story (II)

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "Whose Story (II)"

Video Summary: This will be the last visit to "The Town."
Story Description: Still hard to make out whose dream it is, but maybe it belongs to someone you know...

Grant a New Dream Cutscene Quest Still 01
Water, again, that resonates and that runs deep. From the depth comes an echo, in chaos, it's strangely sharp.
Whose Voice?: Stop. This isn't the ending you want. Don't throw us away.
Whose Voice?: Stop, and embrace your true desire.
And then, ahead, just out of reach, a sudden burst of light flashes in. It strikes the water's glass-like surface, splintering it with cracks of defiance.
The call from behind is so earnest, but you just can't keep your eyes off the light before them.
Yes, leave. Yes, rise to surface. This time, the light promises an ending I truly want.

Infiltrating the Town

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "Infiltrating the Town"

Video Summary: This will be the last visit to "The Town."
Story Description: After regrouping with Yidhari, everyone moves out to the Town. Meanwhile, the search squad has made contact with the town. As Moss considers how to stall for time, Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato stands before the auditorium for the final duel.

(SiblingSibling): (‍Wise! Stay sharp!Wise! Stay sharp! / Belle! Stay focused!Belle! Stay focused!‍)
Icon Dialogue Talk Hmm...
Icon Dialogue Talk Okay!
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Hmm... (‍I just saw more images flash before my eyes, just like that underwater dream last time. I'm fine now.I just saw more images flash before my eyes, just like that underwater dream last time. I'm fine now. / I just had another flash, like that underwater dream before. But I'm good now!I just had another flash, like that underwater dream before. But I'm good now!‍)
(SiblingSibling): You don't look fine. You (‍nearlynearly / almostalmost‍) dropped Master Lumin! If Lucia hadn't (‍baseball-slidbaseball-slid / swoopedswooped‍) in to catch it...
Lucia: What's wrong, (‍WiseWise / BelleBelle‍)? Didn't get enough rest last night? That can't be. I was keeping watch for you.
Icon Dialogue Talk No, I slept fine.
Icon Dialogue Talk Are you always this full of energy, Lucia?
(ProtagonistProtagonist): No, I slept fine. This isn't about sleep. But you, Lucia... Did you really stay up all night to keep watch? How are you still so full of energy (‍like thislike this‍) without any sleep?
Lucia: I do make up for my sleep. I take naps during the day, short and sweet naps. But now's not the time for that chatter. We've reached the Safe House. Let's call Yidhari out.
Icon Dialogue Talk (Knock on the door.)
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Yidhari.
From the other side comes the faint beat... of a drum.
Icon Dialogue Talk (Knock on the door.)
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Yidhari, it's us!
You can feel it — whoever behind the door is drumming back with full focus.
Lucia: It's not nighttime yet, so no need to worry about the Knocwisps.
Finally, the door cracks open. The little drummer peeks out, looking all sheepish.
Yidhari: You're right... Morning, everyone. Ah, well, it's already afternoon.
Yidhari: Hm? Why are there two people missing? Or is it me? Sorry... Manato, Banyue. I can't see your faces again.
Icon Dialogue Talk No, no, you're fine.
Icon Dialogue Talk Oh, they're not here.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): No, no, it's not your fault. (‍They didn't come with usThey didn't come with us / They really didn't come. They really didn't come.‍)
Lucia: There, we've got Yidhari with us now. Onward to the auditorium!
Icon Dialogue Talk Yep!
Icon Dialogue Talk Hope things go well with Manato.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Yeah. Fingers crossed everything's good on Manato's side...
On the other side, the battle in "the town" has begun.
Moss: Oh, you made it. Much earlier than I expected...
"Teacher" West: Do we really have to fight, Moss? They're not Ethereals. Some of them were even my friends. Is this really the only way — settling everything with violence?
Moss: Yeah, we don't have a choice. They didn't come here to join us — they came to wipe us out. We've got to fight back. But all we need to do is stall them.
Moss: As long as the cocoons are intact, we can't die. If we drag this out long enough, their drowned ideals will show up, and the tide will turn. So don't see this as a disaster, West. It's a gift.
"Teacher" West: Um... what about Lantern Bearer or Wandering Hunter? Will they help us? Sure, they scare me, but they're strong. If Wandering Hunter is in town, it won't matter how many enemies show up.
Moss: I doubt it. I begged her for ages, but she couldn't care less, saying something about her Ah-Deh wanting to see the reed fields again... Plus, they come and go as they please. You just can't count on them.
Moss: We must defend the town ourselves. Hold the line long enough and we win. Besides, look — we've got even more reliable backup now.
Mist thickens in front of the auditorium, and out of it steps a warrior in white.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: ...
Moss: Manato, you made it! I'm glad that this time you chose to stand with us. The town will be your true...
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Move. Don't get in the way of my duel. He's coming.
Moss: ...Agh, good... Then the auditorium doors are yours. Defeat him. Make him cocoon. That's the only way you'll claim his face and become a complete drowned ideal.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Come on then, Komano Manato...
Soon after, Manato and the search squad reach the auditorium. Staring down the lone, pale wolf, Manato signals the team to spread out and cover other areas.
Komano Manato: Heh... I knew I'd find you here.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: That's what I should be saying.
Komano Manato: So, you've made up your mind now, protecting "the town," huh?
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Protect it? Lone wolves don't care about that. I'm here for one thing only — to break you.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: So? Are you waiting for your pals, pup? I don't mind taking you all at once.
Komano Manato: No. This is mine to handle. I won't drag them with me, especially not now.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Tsk, still worrying about others at a time like this? You've already lost.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Focus on yourself for once. Come on, quit running from your dream. This time, no one gets to run!

Icon Dialogue Story Defeat Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato

(Enter combat)
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Come on, pup, face the wolf in your heart!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Your sword carries far too many unnecessary burdens...
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: You can't even swing it anymore!
Komano Manato: Shut up! This is the path I chose!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Is that so? You chose to play the supporting role, willingly taking the blows meant for others?
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Wake up, Komano Manato! You've tried that whole "team" thing before. How'd that work out for ya?
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Once (‍hehe / sheshe‍) finds stronger companions, (‍he'llhe'll / she'llshe'll‍) cast you aside!
Komano Manato: No, (‍hehe / sheshe‍)... They're different!

A Future With Them

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story A Future With Them

Video Summary: There can only be one Komano Manato.

Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: It's over!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: You should just cocoon yourself!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: And let me keep going in your place!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Shake off all that dead weight!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: And become
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: King of the White Heart!
Komano Manato: Dead weight?
Komano Manato: If that's really what you think
Komano Manato: You don't deserve...
Komano Manato: To be called...
Komano Manato: ...Komano Manato!
Komano Manato: Get up
Komano Manato: I'm getting serious now!
(Enter another round of combat)
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Yes, that's the look Komano Manato should have, the same look as mine!
Komano Manato: But what we see now is completely different.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Then prove it with your strength and show what Komano Manato should truly be pursuing!

(After Drowned Ideal - Komano Manator loses a certain percentage of his health)
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Why keep resisting? Why won't you go into the cocoon!
Komano Manato: Isn't it obvious? If I'm in a cocoon, I'll never see them again!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: They were never meant to be in your sight to begin with!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: You should set your sights on the battlefield of vengeance, where blades clash... To see the throne draped in white amidst the ruins.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: See the shock in their eyes, hear their gasps, their pleas, their regret, their submission!
Komano Manato: Before that, take a look at yourself.
Komano Manato: Over the years, I've learned an important lesson from kids far younger than me.
Komano Manato: Imitating someone you despise won't truly make you stronger!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: What exactly are you trying to say?!
Komano Manato: No need to rush. I'll tell you all about it after I've knocked you out!

(When Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato loses 90% of his health)
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Komano Manato! Are you giving up on the dream you once had?
Komano Manato: My dream is still the same. I just want to pursue it in a different way.

Manato's Dream

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "Manato's Dream"

Video Summary: There can only be one Komano Manato.
Story Description: Manato defeated his drowned ideal and shares his new dream with him. Rather than forgetting his old dream, Manato wants to carry it to even greater heights. After reuniting with Manato, everyone heads towards the cocoons.

Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: No! Impossible! How is my blade not strong enough...
Komano Manato: I beat you, now get lost already.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: No, no way! You're just crawling back to be their shield again, their lapdog! What about your childhood dream? You're just gonna toss that aside?!
Komano Manato: I'm not tossing anything aside. I just wanna lead the boy out of those ruins and show him it's a big world out there.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: ...
Komano Manato: Picture it: one day, that boy will set out for the Outer Ring — through jungles, over mountains, and along city streets.
Komano Manato: To ruins, to the deep sea, to the sky — hell, even to the moon. Wherever they go, I'll go with them.
Komano Manato: I won't stop. It doesn't matter if I'm not the one in front stealing the spotlight. I'll stay behind, watching their backs.
Komano Manato: It isn't about some grand ideal or noble reason.
Komano Manato: I just can't stand to see them hurt.
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: ...That's a pretty pathetic dream.
Komano Manato: Don't say that. Even if you were to become really strong, you can't guarantee your loved ones won't get hurt. Sure, the former would be a great accomplishment, but the latter— to have that guarantee— would be a miracle.
Komano Manato: I want to chase that miracle— to be that shield. Can't you see there's worth in such a dream?
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: ...
Komano Manato: What? Nothing to say?
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: They've arrived.
Lucia: Manato! We're here!
Komano Manato: Oh, you're just in time.
Icon Dialogue Talk Looks like it's over.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Looks like the fight's over, and the winner decided.
Icon Dialogue Talk Looks like you won.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Looks like you're the victor.Looks like you're the victor. / Looks like you won.Looks like you won.‍)
Komano Manato: Yup. No point wasting time on him. Let's go!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: ...Out of the ruins, huh...
Leaving behind the beaten drowned ideal, they cross the auditorium and descend into the room containing the cocoons.

Home of Drowned Ideals

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "Home of Drowned Ideals"

Video Summary: Slumbering in dreams isn't a long-term solution.
Story Description: Moss leads the townspeople to gather around the cocoons, defending their last remaining home.

Grant a New Dream Cutscene Quest Still 02
Moss: So you came after all.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Moss! You really are here!Moss! You really are here! / Moss, so you really are here!Moss, so you really are here!‍)
Moss: Had I known it would come to this, I never would've let you go. I had so many chances to take you all out in the town, one by one... I got careless.
Moss: No, it wasn't that — it's because I value you too much. I had to have you here in the town, no matter what, to see what your dreams looked like.
Moss: I was so close, Manato. If someone like you would finally give in to your drowned ideal, it would've proved that our existence is justice.
Komano Manato: ...
Moss: But why... why did "that you" lose to "this you?" We've never lost...
Moss: You, Lucia, and Yidhari — you're all tied to us in countless ways, yet you still stand against us.
Moss: Is it because of you, mystic from Yunkui Summit? What is it that you want? To wipe clean the Hollows?
(ProtagonistProtagonist): I'm a mystic, and I'm a Proxy. My only goal is to bring every lost person back home.
Moss: Back home? Don't be ridiculous. This is our home. And it only welcomes those brave enough to dream!
Lucia: True courage is knowing dreams are sweeter... yet still having the will to move forward awake.
Moss: Enough! At this point, the only choice is to fight. Come, citizens of the town! Behind us stand our cocoons — fight to protect this dream!
Icon Dialogue Story Tracked Defeat the last of the drowned ideals

The last of the drowned ideals have gathered before the cocoons under Moss's leadership. To activate Master Lumin, we have no choice but to face them in combat.
(Enter combat)
Moss: Throw them out of the auditorium!
Drowned Ideal - Hooligan A: Protect the town! It's all up to us!
Drowned Ideal - Hooligan B: Just hang on until they make it out!

(Enter the second wave of combat)
Drowned Ideal - Strong Guard: Don't touch our cocoons!
Moss: Hang in there! They won't last much longer!

(Defeat the first enemy in the second wave)
Drowned Ideal - Elite Guard: I still have... so much left to do!

(Defeat all enemies)
Moss: For the town!

Dreams Melt

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "Dreams Melt"

Video Summary: Slumbering in dreams isn't a long-term solution.
Story Description: As Master Lumin activates, the cocoons in the room begin to dissolve. The plan is a success. Banyue arrives with the transport team, saying he'll wait here until the cocoons completely dissolve to get everyone out.

Komano Manato: (‍WiseWise / BelleBelle‍)! You alright?
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Moss!
Moss: The town...
Moss: Never dies...
(SiblingSibling): The device won't activate
(SiblingSibling): We have to force it open!
Komano Manato: I'll do it!
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Manato!
Komano Manato: Hmph, still struggling, huh?
Komano Manato: It's you...!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: I'm only helping you this time
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Just don't slow me down, okay?
Komano Manato: Hmph...
Komano Manato & Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Bring it!
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: There, I've done my part
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Now it's all you
Komano Manato: Yeah... I know
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Go and show me for real
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: A dream that's truly worth it for Komano Manato
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: But wherever you go...
Drowned Ideal - Komano Manato: Don't forget me

(SiblingSibling): The device works! The cocoons are dissolving, and nobody's turning into Ethereals!
Yidhari: Ah... I can feel it... that dark weight tangled around my heart is fading away...
Banyue: Looks like you succeeded!
Banyue: The townsfolk outside suddenly vanished, so we just walked right in. Now we just need to get these people out of here.
(SiblingSibling): Some of the cocoons are taking their time... We'll probably be waiting a while.
Lucia: Everyone clings to their dreams a little differently.
Banyue: Don't worry, leave it to me. I'm good at waiting.
Icon Dialogue Story Tracked Check on the rescued

As the cocoons dissipate, those trapped inside are being rescued one by one. Let's check on their condition.
(Interact with Rescued "Writer")
Rescued "Writer": Urgh... my head's buzzing... feels like I had a... pretty nice dream...
Icon Dialogue Talk How are you holding up? Can you still walk?
Rescued "Writer": I'm exhausted... let me rest real quick...

(Interact with Pal)
West: Uhhh...
Pal: Hmm... ah, you're a mystic from Suibian Temple, and Manato's here too...
Icon Dialogue Talk How you feeling, Pal?
Pal: Can't really explain it... I'm feeling a bit off, but it's probably nothing serious.
Pal: I'm still not sure what exactly happened, but you definitely saved me. Thanks for that.

(After completing all interactions)
(Ongoing)
Yidhari: Agh... Sarah...
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Sarah? Where is she?
Yidhari: It's an illusion of the past, just beyond the wall.
Yidhari: I'm not sure if I can still recreate it... But I'll try...

Sarah: Ah... the Ether leaking from this fissure... I can feel it, the Creator is calling to me...
Moss: Take me with you, Sarah! I want to...
Sarah: No, Moss, you haven't earned that right yet.
Moss: Please! You know about my illness, I joined the Exaltists for this very moment...
Sarah: Hold on a little longer, Moss. I'll return with the Creator's blessing. You still have a mission: stay here and protect this town until that person arrives. Send them through the fissure to me.
Moss: ...
Sarah: Don't even think about coming through on your own. Though the Creator hasn't granted you the privilege to meet Them, it doesn't mean They can't see you. Farewell, Moss. Keep up the good work. I believe you'll earn that privilege soon enough.

The Door of the Past

The following is recorded in the Video Archive
Story "The Door of the Past"

Video Summary: Sarah goes ahead into the world beyond the door.
Story Description: Sarah's phantom vanishes before a fissure. To chase her trail, the group decides to go through the fissure. Banyue stays behind to guard the cocoons.

(SiblingSibling): Sarah's been here. She (‍slippedslipped / wentwent‍) through that fissure to someplace else!
Icon Dialogue Talk This is the door Sarah mentioned.
Icon Dialogue Talk This is the door Yidhari keeps trying to recreate.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): So this is the door Sarah kept pushing Yidhari to recreate. The door that "exists in the past."
Lucia: Should we take a look? That might be where the Mind-Reading Monster's lair is.
Icon Dialogue Talk Wherever it leads...
Icon Dialogue Talk If it involves Sarah, we can't ignore it.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): We have to check it out, no matter where it leads. If Sarah's involved, we can't ignore it. As long as she's around, the Exaltists will never really go away!
Yidhari: Yeah, I'm coming with you.
Komano Manato: I thought this would be the end of it, but it looks like the mastermind's still in hiding... Count me in.
Banyue: I'll stay here to watch over the cocoons and make sure everyone's rescued. You all go on ahead. I'll let Miss Zhao and the others know what's happening.
Icon Dialogue Talk Let's get going then.
Icon Dialogue Talk Let's find out where that door really leads.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Let's get going. We have to find out where this "door from the past" really goes.
