Mercury is a Battleboo Bangboo member of New Eridu Defense Force. Following Soldier 11's recruitment and the squad's official establishment, Magus requested a Battleboo from the higher-ups of the Defense Force. As per regulations, it had to be given a name, and because Seed arrived early before the others on the day Mercury joined the Obol Squad, she immediately named it "Coalby", since to her it looked like a "perfectly round lump of coal". The name could not be changed afterwards, but given how upset it was by this name, Magus comforted it by giving it the code name "Mercury", which is how it prefers to go by.[1]
Despite its sour feelings towards Seed, she only thinks of it as cute, and is responsible for its regular maintenance and upgrades. Among the upgrades she has given it are anti-corruption components to its camo.[2]

Etymology
- Mercury is named after the eponymous god from Roman mythology. He is the Roman equivelant of Hermes who among being the god of commerce, merchants, thieves, language and many more (several he shares with Hermes), he is also a psychopomp, helping guide lost souls to the underworld.
- The latter factoid fits in with Obol's Squad relation to the Greek and Roman underworld.
