Bjorn

Bjorn is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the World Quest Series Nightingale's Song.

Profile

Bjorn was a Ratnik of the Lightkeepers. He was part of an investigation squad that served under Captain Olsson.

Three years prior to the game's events, the Wild Hunt launched an attack from Kipumaki Cliff. On this day, Bjorn was unexpectedly pulled from the squad at the last minute due to suddenly feeling sick. A fellow Ratnik named Veyde took his place and, together with the rest of the squad, went to Kipumaki Cliff to fight the Abyssal monsters. The ensuing battle was disastrous: all of Bjorn's squad comrades died in the battle, save for Ivar, who had sustained major injuries, and Illuga, who helped him escape.^[1]

Following this catastrophe, the role of Squad Leader was transferred to Illuga, and Bjorn began to serve under him in a new investigation squad known as the Nightmare Orioles.

In the following three years, Bjorn battled with survivor's guilt and spend his time preparing for his final battle against the Wild Hunt. He borrowed some ancient Frostmoon Scions texts and cross-referenced what he learned with Lauma to better understand the sealing arrays used at Kipumaki Cliff.^[1]

During When War Songs Rise, the Traveler meets Bjorn as they prepare with Illuga to put an end to the Evil Eye. They all set out together alongside Rollon and Anleifr towards Kipumaki Cliff. After a failed first attempt to restore the barrier, Bjorn's research from the Frostmoon Scions' texts proves useful as he is able to identify the Verdant Crests as foci for the barrier.

After returning from Cliffwatch Camp to gather reinforcements, Bjorn is tasked with securing the location of the southern Verdant Crest. However, by the time the Traveler and Illuga arrive to aid him during Focal Point of Ancient Array (III), Bjorn is already on the verge of death from injuries he received from Abyssal monsters summoned by the Scourge of Endless Decay. Before he succumbs to his injuries, Bjorn tries to absolve Illuga of his guilt and is pleased that he would be able to reunite with his late comrade Veyde.

Illuga would later inform Rollon and Anleifr of Bjorn's death, which greatly shocks the two men. His passing motivates the squad to complete their mission, and together they successfully eliminate the Scourge and the Abyss' presence in the depths of the Chasm of Endless Decay. After the entity was vanquished, Anleifr punches Illuga "for Bjorn"; the young captain acknowledges his fault for leaving to confront the Scourge by himself, accepting Anleifr's frustration and resorting to not punishing him.

The Traveler and Illuga go on to stop Rauthvangi in The Last Night, the First Light. In the subsequent revelry, Illuga honors Bjorn's memory, promising to pay a visit to his grave and tell him about how things are in the city.

After finishing World Quest Series Nightingale's Song, Bjorn's grave can be found at the cemetery south of Cliffwatch Camp.

Appearance

Bjorn was a pale man with a medium build and shoulder-length dark brown hair. He wore one of the standard uniforms of the Lightkeepers. It consists of a black long coat, black trousers, gray knee-high boots and a black glove on the right hand, while the left hand is bandaged. The uniform is adorned with silver ornaments and features accents of dark purple fabric. He also wore an ushanka and carried his Oath Lantern on a belt to his right side.
