Ever Beneath the Waves

Ever Beneath the Waves is a World Quest in Volkodlak Tundra, Snezhnaya.

Start Location

Start the quest by approaching the Exploding Barrels near a shipwreck in Volkodlak Tundra.

Steps

Clear the brash ice in the area
Talk to the person in the cabin
Bring the wooden cabin to shore
- At the first spot, place a Grappling Gun at the marked location. It will automatically pull the cabin in.
- At the second spot, remove the Prime Ice around the Exquisite Chest and open it to spawn a Starlight Prism. This will extend the nearby Grappling Gun's range.
- At the third spot, apply Cryo to the Rumblebranches to spawn a Starlight Prism and extend the nearby Grappling Gun's range.
Talk to the person in the cabin
- A Precious Chest spawns afterwards.

Dialogue

Quest Description

A strange block of ice floats upon the water. A mysterious voice comes to you over a pipe system, claiming that there is a wooden cabin hanging upside down beneath the ice. Clear the brash ice nearby, and you might cause the cabin to show its true form...

(Approach the quest area): Voice Beneath the Ice: If anyone can hear this... Please, help me.; Paimon: Hey, (‍Traveler‍), do you hear that strange voice...?; Paimon: The sound was kinda muffled, though... It's gotta be coming from under the ice. Let's take a look, shall we?

(Approach the exploding barrels): Voice Beneath the Ice: I hear footsteps, traveler by the shore. Please, if you would, halt a moment.; Paimon: Eek! There's a voice coming from beneath the water! Uh-oh, it isn't coming from some sorta ghost, is it?; Who are you?; Voice Beneath the Ice: Be not afraid, traveler. You speak of ghosts, and indeed, I might be considered a ghost of history. Yet I assure you, I mean no ill.; Voice Beneath the Ice: The huge floe you see before you is the foundation of my habitation. At the moment, my dwelling has been trapped in brash ice and now hangs upside down on the surface of this lake.; Voice Beneath the Ice: If you could lend me a hand and rid the lake of all this brash ice, you would have my utmost gratitude.

(After clearing most of the ice)

Paimon: It's beneath this block of floating ice... No, wait, look! There's a house floating on the water!

(The ice floe flips over, revealing a wooden cabin on the other side)

Wooden House on Ice: I cannot thank you enough, travelers by the shore. Your help has brought me relief from my troubles.

Wooden House on Ice: If you'd be so kind, could you draw this cabin to the shore, that it shall not have to remain ever stagnant upon the water's surface?

Paimon: Hmm... Y'know, Paimon's getting kinda curious about this guy! If we drag his house ashore, d'you think we could get a good look at him?

And how will we do this?

Wooden House on Ice: Please look for Prime Ice devices around you and place them in suitable spots. They will then pull the cabin in.

(After pulling the cabin to the first location): Paimon: It's moving! The house is moving towards the shore!

(After pulling the cabin to the third location)

Wooden House on Ice: My thanks, travelers by the shore. I will remember this worthy deed.

Paimon: Hey now, shouldn't you thank people in person?

Wooden House on Ice: I apologize and beg pardon for my disrespect. I am not unaware of worldly etiquette, but my face has not seen the sun for many years, and I fear its sight shall offend you.

Wooden House on Ice: Please forgive this excess personage, please absolve this last scion of old snowfield-dwelling nobility, doomed to be forgotten by time, whose name is Chulkaturin.

Chulkaturin: Please forgive him his choice, for he has long ensconced himself in this cabin on the ice, never to set foot on Snezhnayan land, and thus has he lived for three hundred and twenty-one years.

Paimon: Wait. Are you serious... Have you not left this wooden house for three hundred-plus years!?

You're not human, then.

Chulkaturin: That is so, travelers by the shore. I am a ghost of the past, long-forgotten, a relic of an era that still belonged to the fae.

Chulkaturin: More than three hundred years ago, we were utterly uprooted from this land. The curtain fell on the old era, and there is no longer any place for us here.

Chulkaturin: Our glory has been reduced to dust. Our homeland... The snow poplars... They lie in the snow, cut down to the last.

Chulkaturin: Some who share my memories of those times have disappeared, and others have broken with their pasts. At the end, at the last, only I am left.

Chulkaturin: I could not choose between those two roads, and so I entrusted my fate to this home on ice...

Chulkaturin: I used felled snow poplars to construct it, and have since allowed it to carry me along, across lakes and rivers alike.

Chulkaturin: The wind shall rise shortly, and the flowing waters will carry my destiny off.

Chulkaturin: Perhaps we shall meet again, shorebound travelers. Should that time come, and you remain interested in my tales, I shall again speak of them to you.

The wooden cabin on the ice slowly drifts along with the current until it disappears from sight.
