Grosrochard was first mentioned pleading Chevreuse to be more discerning about the Special Security and Surveillance Patrol's entry requirements, in what was his ninth letter to her on the subject.^[2]

Following the events of Roses and Muskets, the Traveler's actions led him and Chevreuse to dub the Traveler "Proto-Boss"^[1] — a nickname that was subsequently adopted by several Garde members, including Edler and Turenna.^[1]^[3]

Edler holds him in high regard and can quote his advice by heart.^[3]^[4] After quoting his advice about learning to "swear like a sailor" to blend in with criminals, Edler muses that she has never heard Grosrochard swear and wonders if she will get an opportunity to after Rovere Pellicia and his criminal syndicate are arrested and brought back to the Maison Gardiennage.^[3]
