Today, we erect a monument around this cherished legacy. It shall endure not merely as a landmark of Oxia, but as a beacon inspiring all citizens to forge ahead into the future.

— Shuanglin

An Anchor of the Apocalypse is a vital piece of ancient technology which serves as various landmarks on Mars.[1]

Description

Anchors of the Apocalypses were originally called "Deepspace Anchors," and they were all made over a hundred years ago by Senadina's body[2] so that civilians could combat the Sea of Data's corruption once Senadina was gone. Difeng's Deepspace Anchor was what brought time to the city's residents after Senadina collapsed under the burden of the corruption.[3] Oxia's and Langqiu's Anchors of Apocalypses were what let the cities survive the Great Eruption as Bubble Universes, compared to other cities such as Minghai and Baiyu.[4]

Difeng

Difeng's Deepspace Anchor stands to be the manifestation of divine power in the present and a commemoration of the time when the god chose the desolate Luoxing and decided to bring it new life. Some said that the Anchor anchored the past and present, while others said it anchored the entire planet—though it also undoubtedly anchored the god and the fate of every Luoxing native together.[5]

Oxia

In the present of Oxia, the mainstream view of Anchors is that they are what provides crucial support for the Bubble Universe's stability, though some still think that they're magical artifacts or ruins left by aliens, as no one knows that the Anchors were made by Senadina.[6] Scholars of the Data Research Institute were initially curious about their Anchor, conducting numerous experiments on it. In these experiments, it was found that the Anchor could self-repair if destroyed, was composed of material that was insoluble in hydrofluoric acid and could stimulate better plant growth (though only by about one-tenth of the effect of providing sufficient fertilizer), was composed of complex compounds containing Element 126, and had the potential to record data similar to magnetic tapes.[7]

Langqiu

Langqiu's Anchor formerly served as a link between worlds, but time had brought it to the point that it was only considered little more than scrap metal.[8] When Dreamseeker, Senadina, Coralie 6626 Planck, Erdős Helia, and Songque stumble upon Langqiu's Anchor in Part 2 Chapter I, Dreamseeker makes the connection that the Anchors must have once connected the two Bubble Universes of Oxia and Langqiu.[9] While discussing this with Songque, Senadina touches the Anchor, which mysteriously activates it.[10] It's later found by Luo Chenxue that Senadina and the Anchors of Apocalypses had a remarkable resonance with each other, allowing them to establish contact with other worlds.[11] After the activation, both Anchors in Oxia and Langqiu, though they didn't release the same level of energy as when activated, unexpectedly retained some kind of activity—specifically, giving a slight response to external energy stimuli.[12] This new, opened pathway also threatened for shadows of Langqiu to infiltrate Oxia.[13] Later, in Part 2 Chapter II, Coralie realizes that the Anchors weren't necessarily a "smoothly accessible gateway" but were more so launchers that projected the user(s) into another space.[14]

After Perception was defeated via the Rite of Tears in Part 2 EX Chapter, both Oxia and Langqiu's Anchors of Apocalypses were permanently reactivated, allowing for even civilians to travel between the worlds of Oxia and Langqiu.[15][16]

Known Anchors

The following locations are known to have their own Anchors of the Apocalypses/Deepspace Anchors:

Senadina: Beyond dispelling corruption, the Anchor forged from my own body was meant to hold a power that future generations could wield freely.

Senadina: Or rather, I started thinking about that when I obtained the incomplete authority of Finality.
Senadina: The Deepspace Anchor is the first step in realizing those thoughts. It's not just a symbol I gave to Luoxing's first city, but also a creation that constantly works to neutralize the corruption.
Senadina: When I collapsed under the burden of the corruption, it was what bought everyone time to react. The doomsday countdown also predicted how long it could hold out against this tsunami of unprecedented scale.

Senadina: Now is the perfect time to use myself as a cornerstone to create and scatter anchors. The longer I wait, the less power I’ll be able to bring to the future.
  4. About the Great Eruption
Let's rewind time back to the 33rd day of the 14th month of the year 2185 of the old calendar—the scholars of the old world had predicted this day's arrival. After thousands of years of brewing, a force of "dark energy" unstoppable by humans tore apart the entire world on that day, exposing the Sea of Data to everyone. Originally, according to those scholars' calculations, every world sheltered by the "Anchor of the Apocalypse" had a chance to survive independently as a bubble universe... but reality is far more cruel than theory. We have no way of knowing the fate of other cities—at least, the Sea of Data that appeared before our ancestors is constantly eroding the land beneath our feet. In just a few months, Minghai and Baiyu had turned into ruins, and the surviving Langqiu and Oxia were also on the brink of destruction.

DreamseekerDreamseeker: ...People in the future call it the Anchor of the Apocalypse.
DreamseekerDreamseeker: The mainstream view is that the Anchor of the Apocalypse provides crucial support for the bubble universe’s stability. But many still think it's a magical artifact used by the Dark Lord in hell to monitor the human world, or... a ruin left by aliens.
DreamseekerDreamseeker: No one knows that such a gift came from the very first god of Luoxing.

DreamseekerDreamseeker: The Anchor of the Apocalypse? How is that possible?
    [...]
DreamseekerDreamseeker: Is it the pathway to leave this world?
Songque: At least that's what we've heard... but now, it's little more than scrap metal. Otherwise, we would have already made a run for it.
  9. Part 2 Chapter I, Genealogical Seat
DreamseekerDreamseeker: I didn't pay attention to the name in that story before... but on the other hand... do you ever remember Langqiu and another world being united as one?

DreamseekerDreamseeker: Although my understanding is limited, some people helped us survive the Great Eruption at the cost of leaving their own world.
DreamseekerDreamseeker: Stories like that are still occasionally sung in my hometown to this day.
DreamseekerDreamseeker: Earlier, on Amber Street, I noticed a sign, which had been used by another old establishment in my hometown.
DreamseekerDreamseeker: I thought it was just a coincidence at the time, but now that I've seen the Anchor of the Apocalypse...
  10. Part 2 Chapter I, Genealogical Seat
Senadina: Um, sorry to interrupt, but... is this supposed to be happening?
    DreamseekerDreamseeker: ...?
Senadina: I promise I only touched it once... or maybe twice at most!
  11. Part 2 Chapter I, Searching For a Trace
Chenxue: The Anchor of the Apocalypse isn't as mysterious as it sounds. Simply put, it's a unique Anchor in the bubble universe that can help us access higher dimensions with strong or resonating energy.
Chenxue: Ah, speaking of resonance, Sena and the Anchor of the Apocalypse had one, which allowed us to establish contact with other worlds. It's truly remarkable, but...
  12. Part 2 Chapter I, Emergency Response
Coralie: Currently, continuous observation of the Anchor of the Apocalypse indicates that it has undergone some new changes compared to the previous situation.
Coralie: According to Miss Chenxue, "Although it hasn't released the same level of energy as before, it unexpectedly retains some kind of activity."
Chenxue: Correct. Although the reason is unclear, it gives a slight response to external energy stimuli. If we can extend the duration of the experiment, perhaps we can independently find a way to use it.
  13. Part 2 Chapter I, Searching For a Trace
Chenxue: How long is this time frame for "today"? I've been monitoring the data of the Anchor of the Apocalypse since 10:20, and there were no anomalies before DreamseekerDreamseeker returned.
Perception: Can't say for sure. I couldn't judge that precisely.
Perception: But just to be safe... maybe you should check if the shadows have infiltrated your world through the pathway.
  14. Part 2 Chapter II, Shadowless Night
Coralie: Based on the previous times the Anchor of the Apocalypse was activated...
Coralie: It seems more like a launcher that projects the user into another space, rather than a smoothly accessible gateway.
Coralie: Therefore, the interval between two activations signifies a genuine gap in spacetime within the Sea of Quanta... enough to leave"Lantern" behind.
  15. Part 2 EX Chapter, The Tomorrow She Yearns For
Senadina: Haha, it's not too long, we actually like it! But now that Langqiu and Oxia are reconnected, DreamseekerDreamseeker doesn't count as an outsider anymore, eh?
Helia: Since we can travel to and fro via the Anchor of the Apocalypse, is Mr. Mangore planning on visiting Oxia?
Mangore: I want to spend more time with Emily and the others, so not yet.
  16. Part 2 EX Chapter, Living in the Dream
Songque: Speaking of, I just realized... with Aunt Perception purged by Divine Penalty, Langqiu's Anchor of the Apocalypse is back to normal... so will people from Langqiu and Oxia be able to see each other daily from now on?
DreamseekerDreamseeker: Yep. You can come over plenty.
  17. Part 2 Chapter I, Barely a Box Left
Senadina: How could it be... the other side is directly connected to Langqiu's Anchor of the Apocalypse?
