Langqiu
Last updated 2026-08-12
Langqiu is a city in the Antares region of the Lunae continent on Mars.[1][2] It is one of the main settings for the Tides of Time Gone By arc of the story.
Description
One of the four districts of ancient Antares city, and it preserves another history of Antares. The haze of "shadows" and the erosion of the "sea" once plunged this land into tumult. Today, under the influence of predecessors, Langqiu maintains a distinctive order.[3]
Langqiu is a Bubble Universe that resides within the Sea of Data—a quantum space[4] that surrounds the fourth planet from the sun of the Solar System, Mars.[5] It is one of the only cities in the Antares region to have survived the Great Eruption, excluding its neighbor, Oxia.[2] However, it was not the Great Eruption that split Langqiu and Oxia apart; rather, it was the Seven Shus who caused the division, placing the Curse of Shadows within the isolated Langqiu.[6]
Before the Great Eruption, Langqiu was one of the biggest cities on Mars,[7] and the people of Langqiu made a living through agriculture.[8] However, after the Great Eruption, only Amber Street was left standing.[7] Rather than through the destroyed agriculture, people came to survive off of an equivalent exchange known as 'Fear Gathering'[9][10]—an occurrence that includes doing business with the shadows,[11] where people can obtain supplies such as food.[12]
Amber Street Great Panic
The Amber Street Great Panic was a calamity that occurred a hundred years ago, before the Great Eruption. It was one of the manifestations of the Ten Faces of Misery, though it as only categorized as such after the disaster. The calamity was initially unprecedented and irresolvable,[13] making it impossible to eliminate until one of the Seven Shus, Litost, stepped in. Since the people's fear of Amber Street didn't have an actual source, the shadows only kept coming back. Litost resolved the near unstoppable calamity by slaughtering every citizen on Amber Street, ridding it of the shadows. Afterwards, Litost used himself to describe the source of the calamity and to withhold blame for it. By doing such, the remaining fear was directed towards Litost, thus preventing the Great Panic from recurring.[14]
Pool of Shadows
The Pool of Shadows is a phenomenon located in Langqiu that has replaced all the rivers and waterfalls in the area with shadows.[15]

History
The history of Mars is documented using different calendars. The history that is recorded using the Earthian calendar uses the 365/366 days, 12 months in a year format, while history recorded using the Martian Old Calendar uses a strict 668 days, 18 months in a year format, and history recorded using Mars's current calendar (Era of Relocation) uses the 668/669 days, 18 months a year format.[35] Because of this, the calendar differences are specified for each entry via the Earthian years, Old Calendar, and Era of Relocation.

- We have no way of knowing the fate of other cities—at least, the Sea of Data that appeared before our ancestors is constantly eroding the land beneath our feet. In just a few months, Minghai and Baiyu had turned into ruins, and the surviving Langqiu and Oxia were also on the brink of destruction.
