Rhinohound Pack

Last updated 2025-12-18

The Rhinohound Pack is one of the six major borisin packs.

Overview

The Rhinohound Pack is one of the six major borisin packs that remained or were formed after the Third Abundance War, which severely weakened the borisin political landscape, notably being the youngest of the six major packs.

Unlike the other borisin packs that hunt for sustenance, the Rhinohound Pack favors intensive agriculture on their settled planets and is particularly adept in defensive strategies. They enjoy business and maintaining strict adherence to relative peace has allowed them to conduct trade with external factions such as the Interastral Peace Corporation. While capable of diplomatic discourse, it is implied that they will still resort to violence should they sense fear or the scent of blood.

The Rhinohound Pack also prefer industrial technology over biological technology, especially if they upgrade flesh and bone. Young members of the pack who have their coming-of-age ceremony are given an exoskeleton armor that gives them their "Rhinohound" name, modeled after a divine beast in borisin lore. Because of their avoidance of traditional borisin life set down by Duran, older borisin believe that the Rhinohound Pack have betrayed his legacy, while younger borisin believe that the Rhinohound Pack represents the future of their race.[1] Despite this animosity, borisin from the other packs dare not look down at them due to their physical weakness.

History

The Rhinohound Pack was formed by Geliko Khan, a thin and frail borisin. Rather than going down the path of physical strength, he and other likeminded borisin followed the path of technological research, looking into new forms of weaponry that could bolster their fighting capabilities. At some point, the Rhinohound Pack invited the Xianzhou anthropologists Dr. Zongguang and Mr. Jielan to live with them on Pisdo as IPC specialists for six months, and the experience caused Zongguang to realize that borisin society was not as barbaric as the Xianzhou Alliance believed them to be.[2]

Sometime after the Stellaron crisis on The Xianzhou Luofu ended, Phantylia took on the persona "Mangas" and began to unite the borisin, forming larger packs. The borisin followed her under the belief that she could bring them back to greatness, and a plan was concocted to free the former warhead Hoolay from The Shackling Prison. A large group of borisin, led by Mok Tok, infiltrated the Luofu by taking pills that disguised them as Xianzhou Natives or foxians. They also managed to forge identity cards to allow them access to various areas on the Luofu without raising suspicion.

With the assistance of other Denizens of Abundance (primarily invisible mara-struck), Mok Tok and his pack were able to infiltrate the Shackling Prison and ambushed Xueyi, Jiaoqiu and Moze when they were going to pick up Hoolay, as the Yaoqing wanted Hoolay transferred to their Shackling Prison. Mok Tok and his pack were able to free Hoolay and they bowed in respect to the Warhead as he stepped out of his cell. When Hoolay asked for the pack leader, Mok Tok came and answered him. Hoolay was disgusted by how far Duran's whelps had fallen and asked about an escape plan. Mok Tok told him that other members of his pack were gathering the vessels needed to escape, though Hoolay was unimpressed by the rudimentary plan, knowing how large the Luofu was. Nonetheless, valuing his freedom, he went along and escaped the prison with the pack.[3] Despite their best efforts to escape the Xianzhou Luofu, the group was eventually hunted down and killed, including Hoolay.[4]
