Graphia Family

The Graphia Family is a family of prominent Planarcadian artists descended from the legendary artist Graphia. Members of this family have the surname "Murata."

Overview

According to legend, Graphia ascended a tower at the end of the world, one that encompassed all existence. There, she witnessed the suffering of mortals and descended to deliver them from hardship. As a reminder of her purpose, she adopted the surname Murata. Over time, numerous imagenesis apprentices came to identify themselves as inheritors of Graphia's art. As a result, the term "Graphia Family" refers collectively to both her descendants and those who study under her lineage, regardless of origin.^[2] All members of the family use the surname "Murata," which, according to Himeko, means "to go where there are cries, to go where there are flames."^[4]

History

Graphia first appeared in ancient Benzaitengoku during the Cindearth Age, where she joined coalition forces against the Antimatter Legion. She developed a systematic form of imagenesis, leading to the imagenae, which provided the coalition with immense support and manpower. Near the end of the war, Graphia used the Phantasmoon Games to seal the world within paintings, creating what is now known as the World in Canvas. Following this act, she vanished without a trace.^[2]

The history of the Graphia Family is preserved through a secret family chronicle, continuously expanded and passed down through generations. It serves as both a warning and a guide for descendants who may one day seek to break the curse. Despite tragedy and decline, the clan's influence endures through its art, its teachings, and the lasting impact of imagenesis on the World in Canvas.^[2]

Huear	Graphia's eldest daughter. She refined imagenesis into a formal system and authored the three-volume treatise The Natural Principles of Imagenesis. She created numerous imagenae that brought joy to the world. Died at age 31 from the Weathering Curse.
Lumirae ††Character is deceased.	Graphia's second son and founder of Aberrant Defense techniques. He fought monsters that entered the world during its sealing and became the subject of many legends. Disappeared at age 66 after succumbing to madness.
Sola ††Character is deceased.	A pioneer in attempting to cure the Weathering Curse through imagenesis. Her experiments transformed her into a hybrid existence between human and imagenae. Her work laid the foundation for imagenae medicine. Died at age 33 from the Weathering Curse.
Nephea ††Character is deceased.	A tragic figure who, in an attempt to cure herself, accepted a "devil's offer" requiring the sacrifice of others. She unleashed monsters upon the world before being slain by a coalition led by her own father. She is remembered as the "Daughter of Monstrous Beasts."
Hiro ††Character is deceased.	A victor of the Phantasmoon Games. After obtaining an audience with Aha, he disappeared. Attempted to cure the Weathering Curse but failed.
Lunebright ††Character is deceased.	Not much is known about Lunebright, but she once participated in the Phantasmoon Games and lost against a History Fictionologist, "Crimson Skybull."[3]
Roan ††Character is deceased.	A once-in-a-century artistic genius. Died at age 29 from the Weathering Curse.
Ryusuke ††Character is deceased.	Husband of Roan, formerly known as Ryusuke Pissarro of Bathia. He later became the dean of Graphia Academy and head of the Graphia Family.
Himeko	Daughter of Roan and the last surviving descendant of Graphia. She was a Supplicant during the Bloodstained Games. Left a grave behind after the Phantasmoon Games concluded and was presumed deceased, but in truth, she repaired the Astral Express and departed Planarcadia to become a Nameless.[5]

Weathering Curse

Graphia's salvation of the world came at a cost. Her bloodline became afflicted with the Weathering Curse, a hereditary condition with differing effects; the female descendants experience physical deterioration, their bodies decaying like aged paintings, while the male descendants suffer mental collapse, eventually succumbing to madness.^[6]

There are several hypotheses about the causes of the curse but none of them have proven:^[6]

• The Sacrifice Theory — To save the world, Graphia had no choice but to trade her own life and the lives of her descendants through the Phantasmoon Games in exchange for the power to duomensionalize a planet in an instant.
• The Corrosion Theory — During Graphia's battles against the Antimatter Legion, she was struck by enemy forces. The corrosion of Destruction took root deep within her bloodline, cursing the Graphia family to eternal unrest.
• The Genetic Theory — The genes of the Graphia ancestors may contain certain hereditary material that causes descendants to have an increasingly higher probability of developing the condition after reaching a certain age phase, ultimately leading to death from the "Weathering Curse."
