Dialogue

Talk to Ahab about the mermaid

Icon Dialogue Event Commission Description

The mysterious old man who brought the "mermaid videotape" turned out to be Mia's grandfather, Ahab. His stall is at the Cryptid Museum in the shopping district. Go talk to him and see what he knows.
(Talk to Ahab)
Ahab: Step right up to the Curio Stall! Trinkets, snacks, souvenirs — Grab any three for 20% off! Spend over 20,000 Denny and get a free island flower garland...
Icon Dialogue Talk Hello, Grandpa Ahab.
Ahab: Ahem... Oh, it's you guys. I should've known you couldn't resist the urge to uncover the secrets of the deep sea.
Icon Dialogue Talk Do you know who shot this videotape?
Ahab: The one who filmed it? Closer than you think — that's me! This is none other than my "Sea Spirit Chronicles" footage. A creature with the wisdom of humans and the body of a fish. Fascinating, right?
Icon Dialogue Talk Do you know where this was filmed?
Ahab: What, you wanna go find them?
Ahab: There's no need. I've got a similar "Deep-Sea Spirit" right in my shop.
Ukinami Yuzuha: In this shop?!
Alice: Hold up, Yuzuha! Remember that Sixth Street cat spirit legend from last time? That pink-haired shop owner said the same thing, then tried to sell us some "cat spirit viewing tickets" and scammed me out of 20,000 Dennies...
Alice: Besides, keeping a legendary creature as a pet? That's just ridiculous no matter how you look at it.
Icon Dialogue Talk It's not that we don't believe you.
Icon Dialogue Talk We just thought it'd be cool to see it with our own eyes.
Ahab: Sure, I can let you take a look. But listen, kid — there's no such thing as a free lunch in this world. I don't care much about making money myself, but it'd mean a lot if you could show a little support for Mia's stall.
Ahab: She just messaged me on Knock Knock that you're actually the ones who just took over here. But you gotta understand, it hasn't been easy for her.
Ahab: Of course, I'm not saying you need to give her any extra bonuses or anything.
Ahab: Helping her get more customers shouldn't be too hard for folks as resourceful as you, right?
Icon Dialogue Talk No problem, Grandpa Ahab.
Icon Dialogue Talk Promoting the resort is our job too.
Ahab: Oh, and don't go telling my granddaughter we struck any kind of deal. Let's just say we're like-minded people, helping each other out. Heart for heart!
Icon Dialogue Talk Rest assured! Heart for heart!

Alice: Proxy, I know you've got a knack for business and all, but where are we even supposed to start?
Icon Dialogue Talk How about trying it on the beach?
Alice: Wait, so we really have to talk people into it?!
Alice: That's so embarrassing...
Icon Dialogue Talk I've got the experience, let me give it a try!

Promote Archipelago Shoot to visitors

Icon Dialogue Event Tracked Step Description

You decide to promote the booth the traditional approach—word of mouth. Head to the beach and start pitching to visitors.
(Talk to Elegant Young Lady)
Elegant Young Lady: What can I do for you, (‍sirsir / ma'amma'am‍)?
Icon Dialogue Talk Hey, sorry to interrupt.
Icon Dialogue Talk Wanna try some high-speed Archipelago Shoot?
Elegant Young Lady: No.
Alice: Ah! How cold... and blunt too...
Elegant Young Lady: You seem like such a graceful young lady. Why would you want to promote such an unladylike sport with them?
Alice seems caught off guard, slipping into a moment of self-doubt.
Icon Dialogue Talk No worries, let's try talking to someone else.

Promote Archipelago Shoot to visitors

Icon Dialogue Event Tracked Step Description

The first try didn't work, but that's fine—a great salesman never gives up. Try pitching to another visitor.
(Talk to Middle-Aged Man)
Middle-Aged Man: Hey, what's up?
Icon Dialogue Talk Would you like to try the exciting Aqua Blaster challenge?
Middle-Aged Man: Aqua Blaster? Sorry, I can't swim.
Icon Dialogue Talk Uh, there's no swimming involved...
Middle-Aged Man: Or working out, either...
The middle-aged man, clearly fed up with similar sales pitches, quickly walks away.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Come on, you can't expect to sell anything like that! Business is all about creating demand.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Come with me!

Promote Archipelago Shoot with Yuzuha

Icon Dialogue Event Tracked Step Description

Yuzuha seems to know a lot about sales. Follow her guidance and try pitching to the visitors one more time!
(Talk to Darla)
Darla: Daddy, can you stop talking on the phone? I want that toy from the shooting stall!
Philip: Alright, alright. Those booths are all rigged. It's really hard to win. I'll get you a toy when we get home, okay?
Ukinami Yuzuha: (‍Wise, this shooting game's way too easy. So boring.Wise, this shooting game's way too easy. So boring. / Proxy, these beach targets are way too easy...Proxy, these beach targets are way too easy...‍)
Yuzuha flashes you a sneaky wink.
Icon Dialogue Talk Huh? What?
Yuzuha nudges you with her elbow.
Icon Dialogue Talk Why'd you hit me?
Yuzuha lowers her voice.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Just play along with me.
Icon Dialogue Talk Yeah, yeah, it's way too easy.
Icon Dialogue Talk The prizes might as well be free.
Icon Dialogue Talk Yeah, yeah, it's way too easy.
Icon Dialogue Talk Yeah, yeah, it's way too easy.
Darla: Daddy, they all said it's easy!
Darla: And didn't you always say you're the best at shooting games?
Philip: Uh... um... well... Darla, haven't I always told you? Don't believe everything you hear, see it for yourself.
Philip: Just because they say it's easy doesn't mean it really is, right...?
Ukinami Yuzuha: Oh no, (‍WiseWise / BelleBelle‍)! The big prizes are almost gone! C'mon, one more round — before it's too late!
Icon Dialogue Talk Mhm, just a light pull on the trigger and the big prize is yours.
Icon Dialogue Event This is the only place where you can get a deal like that.
(Start Marketing Plan)
(Talk to Ukinami Yuzuha, after exiting Marketing Plan)
Ukinami Yuzuha: Well? Ready to watch me reel in that dad and his daughter?
Icon Dialogue Event Alright, speed-shooting challenge, let's go!
(Start Marketing Plan)
Icon Dialogue Talk Wait a sec, I've got something else.
(Exit dialogue)
(After clearing the third wave of targets (in Marketing Plan))
Komano Manato: You got this, Yuzuha! Show 'em what you got!
Alice: Hey, keep it down a little...
(After clearing the fourth wave of targets)
Komano Manato: Yuzuha, you're the best! ...Are we seriously supposed to talk like this?
Alice: Go, Yuzuha, go!!! Don't ask. She hates it when we're loud!
Ukinami Yuzuha: Hey! What are you two whispering about over there?!
(After completing Marketing Plan)
Ukinami Yuzuha: Guess what?! Mia told me that dad fired off ten rounds just to win the prize!
Ukinami Yuzuha: He was squeezing the trigger so hard, it looked like sparks would fly any second!
Icon Dialogue Talk You're a total business mastermind!
Ukinami Yuzuha: Let's go! I bet Mia's already told her grandpa about our accomplishments. Time to check out the "Deep Sea Spirit"!

Deep Sea Spirit

Special Event
"Deep Sea Spirit"

Story Description: You have found Grandpa Ahab, and everyone is now eager to catch a glimpse of the "Deep Sea Spirit." Then, after a hyped-up introduction, the Deep Sea Spirit makes its dazzling appearance...

Yuzuha drags you to Ahab's store.
Ahab: Mia told me everything. Thank you for stepping up to help manage the resort.
Icon Dialogue Talk No worries at all.
Icon Dialogue Talk By the way, about that "Deep Sea Spirit"...
(ProtagonistProtagonist): No worries, Grandpa Ahab. By the way, do you think you can show us that "Deep Sea Spirit" now?
Ahab: Oh right, right! I nearly forgot about that!
Ahab: Many have longed for a peek behind the curtain, but I always warn people to be ready — your whole worldview may be turned upside down.
Icon Dialogue Talk I'm ready!
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Uh, please, turn my world upside down.Uh, please, turn my world upside down. / Uh, it's fine. Go ahead, Grandpa Ahab.Uh, it's fine. Go ahead, Grandpa Ahab.‍)
Ahab: From the first sprout beneath the water... to the four-legged creatures that conquered land, life has traveled far on its evolutionary journey. Through the tireless work of countless generations of biologists, the threads of evolutionary history gradually unfold before us.
Ahab: But there are still unsolved mysteries and unknown forms of life. The Sea God legend of Port Elpis, the bizarre expansion of Hollow Zero, the ghostly dancers of Ballet Twins... Yet none of these compare to what's coming next.
Ahab: Ladies and gentlemen, rabbits and tanukis, you're about to witness a new chapter in the history of evolution...
Ahab: Defying the boundaries between ocean and land, the Deep~ Sea~ Spirits~!
(A Sharkboo flops onto the ground)

Mermaid Radar

Special Event
"Mermaid Radar"

Story Description: Yuzuha realizes that she's been tricked by Ahab's Sharkboo and is furious. To placate everyone, Grandpa Ahab decides to show everyone an invention of his, the "Mermaid Radar"...

Ukinami Yuzuha: Hm...
Alice: Hm...
Icon Dialogue Talk Stop Yuzuha.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Uh... Yuzuha, (‍let's not get too carried awaylet's not get too carried away / try to stay calmtry to stay calm‍).[Note 1]
Ukinami Yuzuha: You!!! You good-for-nothing old weirdo! Where's the mermaid from my video?!
Ahab: Mermaid? What mermaid? What you've been looking at all along are deep-sea spirits.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Playing word games now, huh? Alice, open the door, get Manato!
Ahab: Whoa whoa whoa, calm down, young lady! Or I'll have to call whoever's in charge here!
Icon Dialogue Talk Remind him that we're in charge.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Grandpa Ahab, you (‍might've forgottenmight've forgotten / probably forgotprobably forgot‍), but we're the ones in charge here... Maybe you could tell us where you saw the mermaid all those years ago? As for this "spirit" that breaks the boundary between land and sea, (‍why don't you just keep that to yourself for now?why don't you just keep that to yourself for now? / you can just keep that to yourself for now.you can just keep that to yourself for now.‍)
Ahab: Well, uh... *cough*... It's been decades now. How am I supposed to remember the exact location?
Ukinami Yuzuha: Ah?
Ahab: Whoa whoa, don't get feisty, little lady! If I don't know where it is, we can always look around... Hold up, where did I put that thing? Ah, here it is! My Mermaid Radar!
Mr. Ahab pulls out a crudely modified boundary measurement device.
Ahab: I salvaged this from discarded supplies of the Old Capital's Research Institute. With my modifications, it'll beep whenever it detects any humanoid creatures with fish tails.
Ahab: And have you heard? There was a reported sighting of a mermaid at a deep-sea fishing spot recently!
Icon Dialogue Talk Hm...
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Hm...[Note 2]
Alice: Hm...[Note 3]
Ukinami Yuzuha: Hm...[Note 4]
Ahab: Hey! Don't give me that look! If you don't believe me, you can ask Empy. Lots of customers have seen it!
Ahab: Whether there are fish or not, might as well cast the net, right? What's there to lose? Trust me. This radar will be beeping like crazy at that deep-sea fishing spot!

Talk to Empy about the mermaid sighting

Icon Dialogue Event Tracked Step Description

Grandpa Ahab says someone spotted a mermaid at the deep-sea fishing spot. It sounds questionable, but you decide to check with Empy to verify it. If it's true, maybe Empy can take you out there to investigate.
(Idle)
Lycaon: Corin, hotel housekeeping is unlike other tasks. It follows a strict code of efficiency — inspection, preparation, collection, and cleaning, each in due order.
Corin: I'm sorry, Mr. Lycaon. Did I miss a spot while cleaning? I'll go fix it right away!
Lycaon: No, no, the room's perfectly clean. But we have many other rooms to attend to, so let's not spend too much time on just one.
Lycaon: By the way, have you seen Ellen? I sent her out to check the shark nets, but she hasn't come back yet.
Corin: I'm sorry, Mr. Lycaon. I've been in the suite all morning and haven't seen anyone. I'll start on the other rooms now.
(Talk to Empy)
Empy: En-ne en-na nhu. (Yes boss! What do you need me to do?)
Icon Dialogue Talk Just wanted to ask you something.
Icon Dialogue Talk Ever run into any mermaids while you were out at sea?
Empy: Ehn-ne? (A mermaid?)
Ukinami Yuzuha: I knew it! That weird old guy totally tricked us!
Empy: En, en-nah. (Yeah, over at the deep-sea fishing spot! Lots of people saw her yesterday morning.)
Ukinami Yuzuha: I knew it! He wasn't just some ordinary old man!
Alice: Oh really? You were literally doubting him like two seconds ago!
Icon Dialogue Talk Have you seen them too?
Empy: En-neh, en-nahnuh! (Yep, yep! She's really pretty, and her fish tail was so cute! She even waved at me when I was out sailing!)
Icon Dialogue Talk Can you take us to see her?
Empy: Ehn-na! Ehn-na! (Of course! Master said your vision is my mission!)
Empy: Ehn-na-na, ehn-na. (I could, but Master's father once warned me about it.)
Empy: En-neh, ahn-nahna. (Some areas of the open sea are covered in thick fog. There was once a captain who returned from a voyage completely crazy, claiming he'd seen a "mermaid.")
Empy: Ehn-ne, uhn-nu-en-nah. (From then on, he became obsessed with finding the mermaid. In the end, he lost his family and everything he had.)
Empy: Ehn-na, ehn-na. (With how easy it is to lose your way in the fog, it's possible he ended up in a Hollow and got corrupted, so maybe what he saw was just a hallucination.)
Empy: Ehn-nah, ehn-nah-noo. (Empy can only take you to the safe zones! If the mermaid went into the open sea, then Empy's not allowed to go there.)
Icon Dialogue Event Of course, safety first.
You look around the area Empy mentioned, but the radar stays silent. No sign of a mermaid. After such a long journey, you're tired, hungry, and starting to see things.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Ugh, no good. I'm so hungry, I'm seeing things!
Alice: Can't believe there's not even a single snack on this boat. So not classy at all.
Icon Dialogue Talk Empy, there's gotta be fish on a fishing boat, right?
Empy: Ehn-na, ehn-na-ehn-na... (Empy is a Penguinboo. Penguins eat fish, but Bangboo don't eat fish, so there's no fish on Empy's boat.)
Empy: Ehn-ne, ehn-ne... (Empy can make grilled fish, but there's no fish on board, so you'll need to catch some first.)
Ukinami Yuzuha: Oh right, we can fish!
Icon Dialogue Talk Kamanosuke, time to prove your loyalty!
Ukinami Yuzuha: Hey, what are you doing?! If you're hungry, just go fishing!
(Both choices lead to the following)
Icon Dialogue Talk Look at Yuzuha
Ukinami Yuzuha: Um, just because I said we can go fishing doesn't mean I actually know how to fish.
Icon Dialogue Talk Look at Manato
Komano Manato: Uh, don't tell anyone about this. I'm actually... kinda afraid of water.
Icon Dialogue Talk Look at Alice
Alice: Ugh, don't look at me! There's zero fishing talent in my family. Back in the day, they used to call my dad "Captain Skunk"[Note 5] because he couldn't catch a thing.
Icon Dialogue Talk What about your grandpa?
Alice: And they used to call my grandpa "Admiral Skunk"...
Icon Dialogue Talk Yeah, yeah, yeah, you all have your reasons.
Icon Dialogue Talk Then I guess it's time to reveal my true identity as the Ultimate Angler.
(Start fishing)
(After catching 2 fish)
(A suspiciously-fishy tail can be seen by the reef)
Alice: Wait a minute! I think I just saw something!
Alice: Behind that reef! There's a mermaid!!!
You hurry to pull the "mermaid" onto the boat, and to your surprise, you see a familiar face...
Ellen: Oh, Proxy, didn't expect to run into you here.
Icon Dialogue Talk That's my line!
Icon Dialogue Talk Why were you sleeping behind the reef?
Ellen: Oh, Victoria Housekeeping Co. got a commission from Fantasy Resort to help supervise some service details and stuff.
Ellen: Mr. Lycaon sent me to check the shark nets in nearby waters.
Ellen: I found a spot on the reef that looked just like a sofa, so I decided to lie down and try it out. That's when you guys came and carried me back.
Alice: Oh, that kinda makes sense.
Icon Dialogue Talk Makes sense? How?
Icon Dialogue Talk You skipped the most important part - sleeping!
Alice: And this radar really does go "beep beep" too.
Alice: It's hard to deny, it really is a human-shaped creature with a fish tail.
Icon Dialogue Talk You can totally deny that!
Icon Dialogue Talk It's a completely different species!
Ukinami Yuzuha: Proxy!!!
Icon Dialogue Talk What's up, Yuzuha?
Ukinami Yuzuha: Let's head back first and get some answers from that weird old man!
After a long journey, you finally arrive at the beach pier. As soon as you step off, Yuzuha, clearly fuming, leads everyone straight to Ahab's little shop...
Ahab: Welcome...
Ahab: Oh my, you really found the mermaid? No need to thank me, really. Just do me a favor and drop by Mia's booth sometime. That'll do.
Icon Dialogue Talk This mermaid might not be what you expected...
Ahab: Sure she is! Human on top, kinda human-fish on the bottom. I mean, just look at that tail fin!
Ukinami Yuzuha: Quit making excuses! You weird old man! This is clearly a shark Thiren!
Ahab: Alright, alright. Mermaid, maid-fish, what's the difference anyway!
Ahab: Just some fancy old tales to make a living off of. Not hurting anyone.
Ukinami Yuzuha: You... You think it's harmless...
Ukinami Yuzuha: That's because you never truly believed mermaids were real, so you don't understand how much it hurts the people who do.
Upon hearing this, the old man's expression shifts into a conflicted mix of emotions, and he lets out a deep sigh.
When he speaks again, the playful banter is gone, replaced by a tone of quiet sincerity.
Ahab: Listen, kid, I won't speak for those beyond these waters, but around here? No one believes in mermaids more than I do.
Ahab: If you really want to know what you're after and what it could lead to...
Ahab: Then follow me.

Legend of the Captain's Quarters

Special Event
"Legend of the Captain's Quarters"

Story Description: Inside Ahab's room, everyone discovers that he also had once firmly believed in the existence of mermaids... After learning of the mermaid's location, the group decides to set out again to investigate...

Ahab opens a small door on the right side of the shop, revealing a sailor's quarters. The walls are covered with hand-drawn sketches of mermaids, newspaper clippings of reported sightings, and analytical research. In the middle of the room sits a collection of related files and photo albums.
Ahab: The first time I saw a mermaid was when our fishing boat got caught in a spell of bad weather and the propeller struck a reef. The boat drifted helplessly into a thick bank of fog.
Ahab: Just as I was lying helplessly on the deck, I suddenly heard a magical, fairy-like voice singing...
Ahab: What happened next is exactly what you saw in the ship's recorded footage.
Ahab: I sent the footage to all sorts of societies and institutions, but all I got in return was skepticism and alienation.
Ahab: I searched time and time again for the waters where I was rescued, and once I even caught another glimpse of the mermaid's shadow. Following the song, I sailed toward the reef where the shadow vanished.
Ahab: But the singing suddenly stopped. I rushed forward, afraid it'd get away, and that was when I heard a splash behind the reef. By the time I got there, sure enough, there was nothing in sight.
Icon Dialogue Talk Ask about the mermaid's location.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): So, you do (‍actuallyactually‍) remember where you saw the mermaid back (‍then?then? / then.then.‍)
Ahab: Of course! I wouldn't dare forget it for a moment... It's on the old sea route from the docks of Waifei Peninsula, in the area where the fog is thickest. But with the Lemnian Hollow expanding, that part of the sea is already inside the Hollow...
Ahab: And I had no choice but to give up my search. All I could do was sort through the related files and photo albums... As if that would somehow prove my life wasn't wasted.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Hold up. Why is the last photo in this album a picture of Mia?
Ukinami Yuzuha: Does that mean... Mia's grandma is actually...?
Icon Dialogue Talk Ah! Now I get it!
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Oh~ It's all coming together now...Oh~ It's all coming together now... / Ahh~ I get it now...Ahh~ I get it now...‍)
Alice: So, the reason you've been searching for mermaids is to... find your family?
Icon Dialogue Talk No wonder...
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Oh~ So that's why this is so important to you...
Ahab: Huh? What are you even talking about? We're not even the same species! What kind of stuff are you kids watching these days?
Ahab: *sigh* Now that I think about it, it was all just a dream... I wasted my whole life chasing after something that was nothing but an illusion.
Ahab: All I want now is to be there for my granddaughter and make up for the responsibilities I should have taken before.
Icon Dialogue Talk Comfort Grandpa Ahab.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): You've already been amazing, Grandpa Ahab! With your help, Mia's stall has been getting (‍loads ofloads of / way moreway more‍) customers.
Ahab: It's all thanks to you good kids for helping out. As for all the tales and folklore... you may hear them and want to chase after them on a whim. But at the end of the day, maybe it's better to just leave them as mysteries.
Ahab: Don't get sucked in like I did, spending your whole life in a pitiful room like this stuffed with legends and tales.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Don't say that, Captain! The stories in this room are super cool!
Ukinami Yuzuha: (‍WiseWise / BelleBelle‍), can you help me look up the old sea route?
Ahab: Wait, what are you doing? There's a Hollow out there. If you go in, you might never come back out!
Icon Dialogue Talk I know a thing or two about Hollows.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): Don't worry, Grandpa Ahab. I know a thing or two when it comes to navigating Hollows.

Alice: If we're going to enter the Hollow by sea, we'll probably need a bigger ship to ensure stability and safety.
Icon Dialogue Talk Fairy searched through past navigation routes.
Icon Dialogue Talk Indeed, there's a section in the Hollow.
Yuzuha looks lost in thought and doesn't respond.
Icon Dialogue Talk Yuzuha, are you listening?
Icon Dialogue Talk Next comes the final step.
Ukinami Yuzuha: Mhm, let's go! Let's borrow a ship from Captain Empy and set sail!
