Lucius

Lucius is a commission-exclusive NPC who appears during Season 1 Chapter 4: Tour de Inferno (A) and Tour de Inferno (B). He was a former member of The Vanquishers and the second-in-command to its leader Pompey.

Profile

Lucius was the second-in-command of The Vanquishers biker gang, where he earned the trust of Pompey, the Overlord of the Old Oil Field. Unbeknownst to Pompey and the other Vanquishers, Lucius was loyal to the Ether corporations in New Eridu who hoped to expand their operations into the Outer Ring. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Appareance

Lucius is a tall and slim young man with short and scruffy blond hair with bangs that cover the front of its left eye, narrow emerald green eyes decorated with a red eyeliner. He has sharp and angular features, a brown hope around its neck, pale skin, a white thorn blouse with the words "Fortune favors the bold," (a reference to the Latin saying audentes Fortuna iuvat, a variant of which is used in Virgil's Aeneid) printed in dark grey alongside wings of the same color under a black unbottoned jacket by a a greyish-blue shirt with dark blue buttons underneath, a lot of belts and pockets with petrol blue patches in a white collar of fur, dark brown pants with a black belt that kept a pair of silver chains in the right side of the pants and black boots. He also have aolden ring in its middle finger of the left hand.

History

Lucius first appeared in the start of Chapter 4, when he and Mors tried to stop Phaethon and Billy Kid from reaching Blazewood by forcing their truck to drive into a Hollow.^[3] The two were rescued by Caesar King, though none of them realized Lucius' involvement.

Prior to the Tour de Inferno race, Lucius tried to sabotage the Sons of Calydon on multiple occasions, including by directing Bellum to destroy their Hollow data beacons^[4] and hiring Pulchra to steal the Sons of Calydon's parts.^[5] The Sons of Calydon also discovered that Mors was smuggling listening devices into goods sent to Blazewood, again under Lucius' orders.^[6] Though Pompey quickly put a stop to the sabotage, Mors claimed he acted alone.

Later, Lucius planned to use the Tour de Inferno race to extinguish Cinder Lake, which would destroy the Old Oil Field's deposits and make the region dependent on Ether technology. In the process, he hoped to assassinate both Pompey and the leaders of the rival gang Sons of Calydon, making himself the undisputed ruler of the Outer Ring. Lucius and Mors both joined Pompey during Tour de Inferno race, where they competed with the Sons of Calydon to re-ignite Cinder Lake.^[7] Lucius had Mors blow up the Sons of Calydon's part of the track, hoping to bury them in rubble; he then tricked Pompey into throwing a fake sparkstone, containing an 'Ether Aggregation Catalyst' into Cinder Lake, causing it to become rapidly corrupted. Realizing Lucius' betrayal, Pompey confronted and wounded him. However, the rising Ether levels quickly incapacitated Pompey, as Lucius had lowered his Ether aptitude with a form of poison.^[8] While Pompey was slowly corrupted, Lucius proclaimed that he didn't care about his ideals of freedom and morality, saying that with the power of Ether, he would create a new order with himself in control.

Lucius retreated upon discovering that the Sons of Calydon had survived the blast. However, he left Pompey alive, hoping his corrupted remains would finish off the arriving Sons of Calydon. Once Caesar, Phaethon, and the other Sons of Calydon made it to Cinder Lake, they found Pompey, who with the last of his energy told them of Lucius's betrayal, before becoming a powerful Ethereal. He was soon defeated by them.^[9] Caesar then heroically dived into the center of Cinder Lake to re-ignite it with her working Sparkstone.

Lucius's current location is unknown, having gone into hiding after the race. Some members of The Vanquishers, like Mors, remained loyal to him despite his betrayal. Lucy planned to get his location from Mors, who reappeared during the Hollow Champion Competition.^[10]

Etymology

• Lucius likely gets his name from Lucius Septimius, a former colleague of the Roman general Pompey, whom he treacherously betrayed and assassinated.
