Celaeno is a Snowland Fae, being under one of the more uncommon kind known as an Augury Bird.

She and her parents live in the tundra on inland Snezhnaya. Her parents, wishing to avoid the fates that befell them, later had another daughter, Linnea, and swapped her with a human child in the hopes that by not being in contact with them, her powers would not awaken. The human child they swapped with was afflicted with a rare disease that Celaeno and her parents would cure. At some point, she also discovered a young Radiant Bladehorn that was separated from its parents and took it in, giving it the name Haemus. Celaeno was embittered by how Linnea was "lucky" to have avoided her fate and decided to venture to Nod-Krai to inflict the harsh reality of their kind on her.

Instead, she discovered that Linnea was suffering in her own sense of trying to know about her past and was unable to commit to her original deed. She participated in the Spirit Envoy Championship with Haemus, facing Jahoda and her companion, a Chic Badger named Reed Miller VIII. She easily defeated her, but her hat flew off during the duel, revealing her status as a fae to the audience. Linnea tried to get answers from her, only to faint upon making contact with her hand and getting a glimpse into her future. Still resolved to get to the bottom of the situation, Linnea asked the Traveler to help track her down, which Aguara did. When confronted with her questions, Celaeno explained about the types of fae and the ones they were, telling her that it was impossible to change fate. Linnea refused to accept her logic and trained with Lumi for the semi-finals. Although she ended up losing, Lumi grew to a gargantuan size and nearly killed Celaeno and Haemus, the shock of which prevented her from seeing her future. She later dueled the Traveler in the finals and lost to them in spite of her efforts. During the post-match interview, Celaeno revealed that she intended to release Haemus back into the wild, doing so shortly after the tournament ended.

Celaeno later bid farewell to the Traveler and Linnea at the Speranza, telling Linnea that if she wanted her company, she could write some letters to them and that she would invite them to the family home when she was planning to return to the tundra. Before she took a ship back up north, Linnea arrived with plenty of presents to give to both her families, which she agreed to take.^[6]

Upon returning to inner Snehznaya, Celaeno visited Snezhnograd to run some errands and pick up some souvenirs for Linnea and Lumi. The Traveler could talk to her, where she revealed that she found the city too noisy to her liking and that Linnea was right to stay away from the capital.

Appearance

Celaeno is a tall, young woman with long, straight dark blue hair with straight-cut bangs across her forehead and lavender eyes.

Etymology

• In Greek mythology, Celaeno (Ancient Greek: Κελαινώ Kelainṓ,, lit. "the dark one") was the name of one of the Harpies whom Aeneas encountered at Strophades. She gave him prophecies of his coming journeys.
