Hroptatyr, also known as The Wise, is one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah.
Profile
Hroptatyr was the president of the Universitas Magistrorum, the Chief Royal Mage known as "The Wise" by royal appointment. He was also by far the most favored among the Four Pillars of Khaenri'ah.[1] He was one of the people in the nation of Khaenri'ah who were of great esteem, and were the best of their respective field. Hroptatyr, along with the four other Sinners, got hold of world-shattering powers and became god-like beings. However, while Khaenri'ah was being destroyed, they did nothing to protect their own nation. Thereafter, he became known as one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah.[2]

Story
Before the cataclysm, Hroptatyr rose to become President of the Universitas Magistrorum and Chief Royal Mage titled The Wise. According to Rhinedottir, "the Universitas won't stop fawning over" him and his Vice President, Eftirvit, who had been passed up for for the office, envied him. By appeasing King Irmin, he became the most favored of the Four Pillars of Khaenri'ah and one of the king’s trusted servants, together with Vedrfolnir.[1] Pierro, in particular, greatly resented him both for this and the role he would later play in Khaenri'ah's ruin.[3][4]
After Vedrfolnir was imprisoned, his younger brother, Dainsleif, summoned Hroptatyr to a secret meeting. There, alongside Rerir, Rhinedottir, and Surtalogi, Hroptatyr agreed to storm Irmin’s castle and rescue Vedrfolnir.[1]
During the raid, Hroptatyr and Rhinedottir disabled the palace’s security measures. However, when they encountered the Traveler's Sibling, Hroptatyr succumbed to his desire for infinite knowledge.[1] He stole one-sixth of the world-shaking power the sibling had absorbed,[5][6] an act that ultimately marked him as one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah.[2] Yet, in spite of their greater power, neither he nor his fellow sinners came to Khaenri'ah's aid during the cataclysm.[2]
