Universitas Magistrorum

Last updated 2025-10-27

The Universitas Magistrorum was a Khaenri'ahn organization whose members dabbled in various arts, including astrology and alchemy. Its situation since the Kingdom of Khaenri'ah's destruction during the cataclysm 500 years ago is unknown.

Overview

"O Almighty Sovereign, the Universitas Magistrorum has provided the predictions you requested: The two stars have been captured by the world's gravity... After a lengthy orbital period, today their paths shall intertwine once more."

The organization was rather influential in Khaenri'ahn society, as it was directly subordinate to the Vinster King Irmin, and covered an array of different functions.

Based on Jakob's Log, alchemy was among the Universitas' areas of expertise, although he believed Rene would criticize the Universitas for "neglecting the fundamental principles underlying everything" and "invert[ing] even the alchemical stages for other purposes."

In Perinheri, a legend set during Teyvat's Archon War and Khaenri'ah's Crimson Moon Dynasty, the Universitas' strongest warrior at the time was an individual named Alf,[2] suggesting the Universitas also had combatants.

It once developed a minor spell known as the Chaos Permeation, meant to mock Vision wielders, which would allow its users to harness Abyssal energy to evoke elemental effects. The spell was weak and was primarily used in performances and parades, with ordinary street performers needing months of practice just to shift a single Element. However, when Surtalogi learned of the technique, his knowledge of Abyssal power allowed him to master the ability almost instantly, effortlessly using all seven Elements in his first attempt. Renaming the technique the Seven-Shifting Serpent, he later taught it to his disciple Skirk to disguise her Abyssal powers while on Teyvat.[3]

The Universitas Magistrorum also had a collection of literary works.[4]

During the time of the Cataclysm

In the years leading up to the Cataclysm, Hroptatyr led the Universitas Magistrorum, with Eftirvit as his Vice-President.[1]

The Universitas had a Moon Marrow laboratory where researchers, such as Tholindis, studied Moon Marrow as an energy source. After Irmin got obsessed with the Abyss, the Universitas Magistrorum had to change its focus from Moon Marrow research to becoming a major center of Abyssal Energy research. This left Tholindis as the only remaining staff member in the lab.[1]
