Ultimate Calamity

The Ultimate Calamity is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in World Quests in Nod-Krai.
Profile
The Ultimate Calamity was originally a man named Morozov who was the Supervisor of the "Post-Apocalyptic Elysium", an apocalypse bunker that was built in Wavechaser Plain during the reign of the Belyi Tsar. It was constructed in anticipation of the Cataclysm.
Throughout the time in the bunker, Morozov instructed the present researchers to experiment with kuuvahki and its influence on the Abyss. Senior Researcher Grazina Myklukho led experiments based on earlier research showing that kuuvahki had a catalytic effect on the growth of certain plants. Through controlled breeding, the researchers developed new plant varieties with a high affinity for kuuvahki, capable of passively absorbing it and purifying Abyssal corruption. These plants were tested on Abyssal creatures such as Rifthounds, with the hope of one day restoring the surface world.[1][2]
Following the successful research, Morozov requested a modification to the ventilation system, adding pipelines to circulate kuuvahki, which was supplied by the plants. This created the "Apocalypse Purification System."[1]
However, Morozov had actually been working for Rotwang the entire time. His goal was to use the system to secretly introduce Abyssal corruption into the experimental zones. He spread the lie that the outside world had been completely destroyed to ensure that the inhabitants of the bunker would never attempt to leave.[3]
The experiments resulted in repeated containment breaches, numerous deaths, and even the loss of children, including Payva.[2] Despite Grazina’s growing objections and formal requests to terminate the experiments, Morozov continued them, claiming that they were for the greater good.[4]
Eventually, Maintenance Worker Kotelnikov discovered Morozov’s true intentions and informed Grazina that the outside world still existed, urging her to escape with the children.[5] With the help of Brahe, the third Reed Miller, Grazina secretly arranged for the surviving children to be escorted out of the facility.[6] Morozov remained unaware of this, and eventually died, though the circumstances surrounding his death remain unknown.[3]
Sometime after Rotwang was defeated, Morozov was reawakened as the "Ultimate Calamity" and dwelled in the bunker over the centuries.
During the World Quest Return to Sender in Series East of the Moon, West of the Sun, the Traveler and Paimon discover the bunker, restore the Apocalypse Purification System, and ultimately defeat the Ultimate Calamity that was once Morozov. They learn that he himself believed Rotwang had succeeded in destroying the outside world and was still loyal to him.[7]
At the end of the World Quest The Last Night, the First Light in Series Nightingale's Song: Final Chapter - A Star Out of Time, the Ultimate Calamity joins the Serpent of All Evils in the final fight against the Traveler and Illuga.
