Summary

To Gaze Upon the Dreaming Pale Crown

The Traveler and Paimon as they investigate the Pale Crown Palace, an abandoned royal palace hidden beneath the Tsar's White Birch. The Eye of Graeae reveals that one of the three fragments of its lost power is located within the palace, which was once the private residence and later the tomb of the Belyi Tsar. The Eye also reveals that it was created there, inside the hidden research facility known as Hvergelmir.

The palace was once a place where the Belyi Tsar welcomed humans alongside the fae, and it was where the flame of Kresnik was first kindled before spreading throughout the land that became Snezhnaya. After the Belyi Tsar died fighting the Abyss and the waves of beasts around five hundred years ago, his remains were returned to the palace, with part of his body eventually becoming the Tsar's White Birch.

To reach the palace, the Traveler and Paimon activate a mechanism that summons a hidden railway and board an old prototype train operated by the Eye. During the journey, however, the Traveler experiences a strange phenomenon and suddenly finds themselves separated from Paimon and the Eye and in an unfamiliar space. There, they encounter two researchers, Izmaylov and Azazel, who cannot see them and appear to be living through events from Hvergelmir's past.

The researchers are monitoring a being called the Proto-Man, which is contained inside an egg and remains stable despite being surrounded by the darkness of the Font of the Shadow Realm. Izmaylov expresses concern about the newly ascended Tsaritsa and fears that her rumored plans to prohibit alchemy will cause Hvergelmir's bio-alchemy research to be shut down, preventing the completion of the Belyi Tsar's final aspiration. Azazel questions whether their research should continue, reminding Izmaylov of the disastrous results of a previous experiment, but the two ultimately leave the decision to their superiors.

As the Traveler explores the facility, they discover a message from Pavlina asking the researchers to care for her cat, Lara, while she is away. The message warns that Lara must be fed properly and hints at the dangers of the researchers' experiments by jokingly threatening anyone responsible if the cat develops body parts from another animal. The Traveler later finds Lara and discovers that she is starving but cannot feed her because she will only eat from her bowl. The Traveler also discovers Prime Ice containing something mysterious and finds research notes describing experiments involving prisoners, the Snegovik, and the concept of "love." One researcher wonders whether loveless fae can use the technology to obtain the love they lack and refers to an unnamed person as "he," whose teachings appear to have influenced their work. The researcher also claims that a certain power should have belonged to them instead of being part of Aksinya's aberrant dream, although the exact meaning of this statement remains unclear.

Eventually, the Traveler discovers a hidden passage behind a picture frame and enters another laboratory containing a strange alchemical apparatus. A research note explains that Kresnik Kristall may be able to help transform matter and suggests that things that have been separated must be brought back together. The Traveler experiments with a set of scales but finds that none of the available objects work individually. Realizing that the instructions refer to combining materials rather than simply choosing the correct object, the Traveler grinds the yellow crystal and Kresnik Kristall ore into powder and places them into a reagent bottle. A new substance begins to form, but the provided text ends before its nature or purpose is revealed.
