Pulonia

Pulonia, full name Prospective Undulation Localized Observing and Investigating Automaton,^[1] was a quest-exclusive NPC who first appears in the Archon Quest In the Shadows of Night in Song of the Welkin Moon: Act I - A Dance of Snowy Tides and Hoarfrost Groves. Prior to this, Pulonia had also appeared in A Winter Night's Lazzo.

Pulonia was Sandrone's main companion and Alain Guillotin's final creation.^[2] After being destroyed by Dottore, Sandrone built a new robot, Fagio, to accompany her in his place.

Profile

Pulonia was created by Alain to measure the "unknown." Despite his initial construction, Pulonia had numerous issues, which Sandrone would debug in order to improve its functions. After Alain died, he asked Sandrone to bring it to the Fontaine Research Institute so they could maintain it. Fearing that they would be unable to do so, Sandrone took Pulonia with her, claiming that it was her attendant in order to avoid attention. She would continue improving its functions, allowing it to hang laundry, serve tea, deliver meals and search for books.^[2]

Pulonia kept Sandrone company throughout the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act II - Elegy of Dust and Lamplight. In The Ashen-White Order Burns, Pulonia directly confronted Rerir in battle but was defeated by him.

Following further modifications, Pulonia attempted to fight Rerir again when he burst into the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau, but Rerir incapacitated it in a single strike before losing interest.

Pulonia later accompanied Sandrone with her daily work, bringing reference material for her to create a formula to bring Columbina back. She then confronted Dottore with it, placing the real formula in it and holding a fake one on herself. Pulonia's body was soundly destroyed by Dottore in the ensuing battle, but was able to activate the equation placed in it. Afterwards, Arlecchino sent his body alongside Sandrone's to bring to the Fontaine Research Institute per her last will.^[5] After Sandrone reawakened in Fontaine due to Alain's "second gift", she was dismayed to discover that Pulonia had been damaged beyond regular repair.^[6] Since then, Sandrone has stored Pulonia's body in her and Alain's old home and has been attempting to restore his core, wishing to restore him perfectly and not in an incomplete manner that would cause him to forget her.^[7]

Appearance

Pulonia is a large humanoid clockwork meka wearing a black overcoat with gold trims and two triquetras with ruby-red gemstones to match with Sandrone, reinforced legs to resemble thick shoes and a metallic tophat on top of its head. Despite being a clockwork meka it has many design motifs that come from Ruin Machines, notably the face and shoulder ornamentation bear heavy resemblance to them, along with having back-mounted missile launchers similar to a Ruin Guard.

Etymology

• Pulonia is the name of the wife of the commedia dell'arte character Sandrone. Sandrone, Pulonia, and their son, Sgorghiguelo, have been a symbol of Carnival in the city of Modena.
