Profile
"Sin" has tainted the past, and "Fate" rules the future, but his story has yet to reach its end. Rerir's obsession shakes the laws of the world — such is the power of a Sinner.
—"The Visionary" Vedrfolnir
Rerir is one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri'ah who stole one-sixth[9] of the "world-shattering" Abyssal power that Irmin had the Traveler's Sibling absorb.[10][11] He was originally a secret agent of the Eclipse Dynasty, known as the Rächer of Solnari, whose primary mission was to exterminate the Crimson Moon Dynasty's remaining descendants.[12][13]
Appearance
In his physical form, Rerir is a pale tall muscular man with messy shoulder long white hair, pink eyes with black slit pupils. His face is obscured by black bandage-like wrappings, his right eye and nose is exposed, his torso, arms and hands are covered by the same bandages with a lot of chest exposed, in some places where his skin is exposed (outside the chest area) there are pink-red blotches of energy. Over the bandages he wears black with gold trim ornamental armor on his shoulders, hands and upper arms. It flares up on the shoulders, attached to his shoulder armor he has a large jagged crimson red cape that fades to darker with golden and black details as well as two long cape-like cloth at the front, dark grey pants with some black bandages on them, golden belt and tall black armored boots with golden outsoles.
Before becoming a Sinner, Rerir's hair was brown, his eyes were blue, and he wore a brown shirt and gray vest.

Story
Before the Cataclysm
Unlike the other members of the Five Sinners, who were all high-ranking and ambitious members of Khaenri'ahn society, Rerir was a normal man serving as an intelligence officer under King Irmin. He had a girlfriend, Tholindis, who he had proposed marriage to but who had not yet accepted his proposal. At some point, he was also responsible for filing Surtalogi's case during his sentencing. Unbeknownst to each other, Rerir was secretly assigned by Irmin to purge any remaining descendants of the Crimson Moon Dynasty,[14] while Tholindis was a descendant of the Crimson Moon Dynasty herself. He was also a friend of Dainsleif and through him knew Vedrfolnir, who advised him to abandon Tholindis for a new fiancée, believing that their marriage would not end in happiness, though Rerir was hesitant to heed his advice.
Rerir grew increasingly conflicted over his job as it led him to kill innocents and children, but he continued to justify his actions to himself. After disposing of a descendant named Orlog, he returned to the office to check the next file, only to be horrified when he learned that his next target was Tholindis. Realizing the extent of Irmin's persecution, Rerir refused to kill anymore, and upon confronting another descendant named Frithr, he let her go with a warning to keep herself hidden.
After Vedrfolnir was blinded and imprisoned by Irmin, Dainsleif asked Rerir, Hroptatyr, Rhinedottir, and Surtalogi for their help in freeing him, and Rerir agreed, though his main motive at the time was to get a pardon from Irmin to protect Tholindis. While Dainsleif and the others confronted Irmin, Rerir was assigned to free Vedrfolnir from his jail cell. Rerir asked Vedrfolnir if he was responsible for the voices in his head, though the prophet declined. Seeing that Rerir wished to protect Tholindis at all costs, Vedrfolnir advised Rerir to persevere against everything that fate would throw at him before warning him of monsters attacking the Universitas Magistrorum. When he found Tholindis, she told him that she had learned of his secret and entered a moon gate. Before she left, she promised him that she knew how to restore his normal life. This left Rerir in despair, and he partook of the Abyss's powers along with the other Sinners, hoping to use those powers to find Tholindis. Dainsleif was shocked by his sudden betrayal, as he had believed Rerir was a man with no grand aspirations and would have no apparent reasons to obtain Abyssal power. Rerir then reopened the moon gate and entered it to find Tholindis,[15] abandoning Khaenri'ah to its fate like the other Five Sinners.[12] This tore his body into countless fragments scattered all over Nod-Krai.[15]
After the Cataclysm
Rerir ultimately survived his failed attempt to enter the moon gate due to the transcendent abyssal power he had acquired with the other Sinners, although he found himself unable to escape the moon's reflection. He also sensed an abyssal power lurking inside, though he ultimately rejected it.[8] The fragments of his body became the monsters of the Wild Hunt.[15] Through unknown means, Dottore was somehow able to bring back Rerir from the moon's reflection, and through him, began accumulating large amounts of his fragments.[7] Dottore timed Rerir's revival, and while he had no interest in Dottore's research, his obsession with the moons meant that their goals aligned for the time being. This was done so he could cause the most havoc while Columbina was at her weakest.[16]
The Lightkeeper Flins would stumble across Rerir's heart after clearing a Wild Hunt anomaly, and took it for himself out of curiosity, not knowing what it was. This would attract more fragments of Rerir's body, which would fuse to the heart. Eventually, Rerir became aware of Flins' possession of his heart and began periodically attacking him to reclaim it, and although Rerir was weak and easily defeated at first, Rerir became stronger while Flins was weakened by the Abyssal corrosion.[17][8]
Rerir then learned of the Traveler's arrival and took on the form of the Traveler's Sibling, deceiving the Traveler into assisting him with entering the Frostmoon Scions' sanctum, which contained the Moon Marrow he sought to restore his power. However, the Traveler hesitated to take the Moon Marrow and Rerir himself could not take it due to being a phantom, causing the Moon Marrow to later be taken by Vilemina for the Fatui. He later tracked the Moon Marrow to Starsand Shoal where it was in Sandrone's possession and confronted her, the Traveler, Lauma, and Jahoda, but was forced to retreat after a short battle.
Realizing that he could exploit Aino's Boom and Blast Kuuvahki Cannon to empower himself, Rerir proceeded to abduct the Lightkeeper Sousi, using his form in order to convince the Traveler to repair the cannon and later taking on Flins's form to murder Sousi. He stoked tensions in Nasha Town about his shapeshifting abilities in an effort to convince the populace that the cannon had to be fired at all costs, then had the cannon aimed at himself on Starsand Shoal to restore his form. The Traveler and Flins confronted him, where he stated that humans couldn't comprehend the powers they used, but admitted that it would allow him to return. As the cannon fired on them, the Traveler and Flins were able to divert some of the incoming fire while Ineffa had to manually lift the cannon to redirect it. Despite their efforts, Rerir managed to restore his physical form, but was enraged after discovering that he had only restored part of his power and attacked the duo. Sandrone and Pulonia arrived and battled him, though he managed to overpower the automaton. Before he could finish them off, Columbina teleported them away.
After the encounter, Rerir traversed through a cavern near Starsand Shoal (the cavern where the Traveler and their sibling's spaceship landed), though he quickly realized that someone was following him and told them to reveal themselves. The person revealed themselves to be Varka. Varka and several Knights ambushed him, but Rerir easily overpowered them and forced them to retreat.[18]
Rerir would continue wandering Nod-Krai to absorb more kuuvahki, eventually confronting Columbina and overwhelming her, the Traveler, Lauma and Flins with ease. Despite his efforts, they were able to escape his grasp, much to his irritation. Pursuing Columbina, he eventually arrived at the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau after sensing her there. However, when he arrived, she had just left, prompting him to lose interest in fighting the Fatui and leave. Sandrone, who sought revenge for their previous fights, sent Pulonia after him, but he quickly incapacitated it in a single strike.
When Nefer was reading Rerir's memories using a magical chess set, he was alerted and attempted to trap Nefer in an illusion of her own past. However, she broke free using Alice's pendant acquired from Dori and was able to seal Rerir within the chess set. She predicted that the seal would only last for two days.
Once the seal broke, Rerir battled the Traveler, Nefer, Flins, Lauma and Aino, expelling the latter three during the middle of their fight. Angered that Nefer had looked into his past, Rerir stated that she had known too much and prepared to finish her off, unaware that she had been stalling for time. Since fighting him head-on would prove pointless, Albedo decided to siphon his power to Columbina, with Durin acting as a conduit to convert his abyssal power. Upon noticing the alchemical symbol surrounding the Traveler and Nefer, Rerir was amused to learn that a student of Rhinedottir had joined the fight. The enhanced Columbina was able to fight him on more equal terms. She then restrained him and opened a gate beyond the sky, though Rerir believed she was not powerful enough to do both at the same time. Columbina told him that "someone else" was holding open the gate and flicked him into it. As he was hurled into the portal, Rerir quickly became horrified as he caught a glimpse of Dainsleif holding the gate open. Dainsleif bade his old friend goodbye before closing the portal, sealing Rerir away.[19]
Columbina later went into the moon's reflection in order to prevent Dottore from harnessing the moons' powers, during which she found Rerir inside. Rerir apologized to Columbina for his actions and for the first time, felt at peace with himself and horror at the atrocities he had committed now that the voices were no longer in his head. He revealed to her that he was surprised he had not been destroyed like the first time he had arrived and that Dottore was the one who had revived him. He offered to help her clear the obstacles in her path in return for sending a message to Tholindis, as unlike her, he was unable to move as freely. She agreed to send his message to her and told him that Dainsleif still considered him a friend, feeling regret for not having understood what he had gone through at the time. Rerir appreciated the sentiment and wished her luck on her mission.[16]

Trivia
- Rerir is the wielder of the polearm Barnstokkr.
Etymology
- In Germanic mythology, Rerir is a powerful ruler who avenges his murdered father and is an ancestor of the Völsung clan, an important mythical lineage.
- Rächer is the German word for avenger, or one who seeks vengeance.
- Solnari could potentially be composed by two Germanic words: Sól which means "sun," and Nari (Narfi or Nörr) which means "narrow." Alternatively, some philologist like Rudolf Simek suggested that Narfi (son of Loki) may have originally been a demon of the dead and that his name could be related to the Old Norse word nár, "corpse."[20]
- Additionally, it is speculated that Solnari may be one of the three moon sisters (possibly Sonnet), as three names appeared on Alice's paper in the Nod-Krai Teaser video, one of them being Solnari. The other two names read Aralos and Cannon.
- Coincidentally, Sonnet is the Goddess of the Iridescent Moon, which later became the Crimson Moon.
