Theodore

Theodore is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in Lohen's Story Quest, Lepus Miles Chapter: Act I - A Knight's Legacy.

Profile

Theodore is a trainee medic with the 8th Company of the Knights of Favonius.

As a child, he and Lohen were once kidnapped by Eroch for his illicit experiments with the flesh of the fallen draconic monster Ursa the Drake^[2]. The two children were eventually rescued by the knights, but the harrowing event would leave a shadow on them both for years to come. Theodore and Lohen came to share a respect and a fondness for Adorno, the "Benevolent Knight," who was among the troop that rescued them from the experiment.

At some point after his rescue, Theodore would undergo training to become a full-fledged knight, though he would ultimately fail his qualifying exams. This failure continued to affect him greatly as he longed to inherit Adorno's title of "Benevolent Knight." Theodore soon joined the 8th Company as a trainee medic instead^[3], and went on to apply his skills in providing care to an aging Adorno in Dornman Port, who had mostly retired from the Knights.

As Adorno continued to deteriorate in health, a desperate Theodore managed to recall the location of Eroch's laboratory from his hazy childhood memories. Using the remnants of the experiment Eroch had left behind, he began experimenting with Ursa's flesh in an attempt to create a serum to prolong Adorno's life. At some point during his experiments, he would inject himself with a sample of the serum, inadvertently incapacitating himself from the brunt of Ursa's power. This allowed the monsters he was testing on to escape. Theodore awoke in the lab to a bemused Lohen, who had long figured out his motives from reading a health examination report he had written for Adorno. To Theodore's surprise, Lohen, interested in the potential power granted by the serum, offered himself to Theodore as a test subject instead of turning him in for his crimes. The two would continue collaborating on the experiment: Theodore would refine the serum while Lohen would capture more monsters for testing. Theodore soon began to slip low-concentration doses of the serum into Adorno's food and medication. For a time, their efforts seemed to bear fruit: Adorno slowly but steadily grew stronger, though the serum was unable to treat the root cause of Adorno's ailments. The two grew wary of eventually being discovered by the Knights.^[4]

Eventually, Lohen realized that the serums were no longer helping Adorno and urged Theodore to cease the experiments, but Theodore felt that he was close to the perfect serum. Adorno, who realized the truth at some point during the investigation, tracked Lohen to the laboratory, where he forgave both of them and urged Theodore to stop the experiments. At this time, he had pushed the experiment to its limits, overstimulating the flesh to the point that it could endanger the surrounding area. Lohen convinced Theodore to stand down and hand over the key to the cells. In the ensuing battles, Lohen, Varka, and the Traveler manage to destroy the final remnants of Ursa's flesh.^[4] Both Theodore and Lohen are subsequently punished by Jean for the incident. Lohen expresses a desire to recruit him into the 5th Company as a regular knight after he repents from his mistakes.^[5]

As reliable as the rumors suggest. You'd make a good captain of the 5th Company, I'm sure Varka wouldn't object!
