Shuhu
Last updated 2026-09-06
Shuhu (Chinese: 倏忽) is an Emanator of Abundance and a prominent figure of the Denizens of Abundance. He has come into conflict with the Xianzhou Alliance on several occasions, and also serves as an exalted figure for the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus due to his close affiliation with Yaoshi.
Profile
Fragments of Shuhu are found in various locations. The Xianzhou Alliance stored a portion of Shuhu in a box within the Shackling Prison, though no one was permitted to open it for verification without authorization from the Marshal and all seven Arbiter-Generals.[1]
Ashveil, the leader of the Galaxy Rangers (more famously known as La Mancha), devoured Shuhu "hundreds of years ago" with his "shadow", according to Pearl.[2] Meanwhile, Asat Pramad, the Lord Ravager aligned against Elation, was able to pass on Shuhu's cells to Fulwish. Fulwish then implanted these cells into the bodies of Planarcadians through the Happiness Surgery, infecting them and effectively making Shuhu a participant in the Phantasmoon Games.[3]
History
Xianzhou Alliance
Some time after the destruction of Muldrasil in Star Calendar Year 5320,[4] Shuhu brought the dead planet of Rahu back to life, an act which was witnessed by, and awed, the former Xianzhou Yaoqing Helm-Master Yueyan.[Note 1] Yueyan became a follower of Shuhu's and established the Disciples of Sanctus Medicus as its first master.[5] In the Disciples' lore, Yaoshi traveled on Rahu with Shuhu and gave Shuhu THEIR instructions, which became the basis of the text Thousand-Handed Merciful Medicus' Salvation. The Disciples use this text as part of their initiation rite for prospective members, who must record the text 500 times.[6] The Thousand-Handed Merciful Medicus' Salvation is a forgery according to the official announcement from the Ten-Lords Commission.[7]
In Star Calendar Year 5749 Star Calendar, Shuhu led the Denizens of Abundance in an invasion of the Xianzhou Yuque, but was defeated by the Xianzhou Alliance with the help of the Intelligentsia Guild.[8]
In Star Calendar Year 6300 Star Calendar, Rahu — the planet Shuhu had revived — devoured and destroyed the Xianzhou Cangcheng.[9]
About 700 years ago, the High-Cloud Quintet formed to save the Yuque from a Denizens of Abundance invasion.[10] At some point in this era, Shuhu was presumably involved in an event known as The Shuhu Upheaval witnessed by Jing Yuan.[11] According to Jingliu,[12] and presumably Phantylia,[13] Shuhu rallied a great army to attack the Luofu and set up the Sanguinary Abyss to block the Xianzhou soldiers. Dan Feng fell into Dragon's Delirium while fighting, and soon after Baiheng charged ahead and shattered the enemy's defenses, allowing the Xianzhou soldiers to break through Shuhu's Sanguinary Abyss and awaken Dan Feng.[12] Shuhu was eventually defeated by Baiheng's self-destruct attack, but it is unclear if Shuhu was actually killed.[14] Jingliu also states that Yingxing used the flesh of an Emanator of Abundance to aid Dan Feng in resurrecting Baiheng, leading to Yingxing's transformation into an abomination now known as Blade.[12]
After attacking the Xianzhou Alliance, Shuhu disappeared and there are no records of his remains according to Jingliu.[12] According to the Ten-Lords Commission Criminal Directory, Shuhu's remains are said to be kept in a box held in the deepest depths of the Shackling Prison, however the box is not to be opened unless directly ordered by Marshal Hua and the Ten Lords together.[1] However according to Pearl, Shuhu was devoured by the "shadow" contained in Ashveil's arm.[2]
Planarcadia
Gilam Quenmier, a member of the Intelligentsia Guild, brought a cell of Shuhu to Planarcadia, triggering the first Herald of Death incident during the Phantasmoon Games fifteen years prior. In the aftermath, he attempted to recover the remaining Shuhu cells but ultimately failed.[15] Later, Fulwish came into possession of these cells. Using the Research Society of Happy Smiles as a front under the pretense of guiding people toward true Elation, she implanted Shuhu's cells into 200,000 Planarcadians[16] through Happiness Enhancement Surgery.[17]
During the Phantasmoon Games in Amber Era 2158, Fulwish activated these cells, making Shuhu into a Supplicant of the Phantasmoon Games, with all 200,000 individuals infected with his cells[16] collectively constituting a single Supplicant. Many transformed into Joy Ascendants upon activation, and Fulwish herself became the second coming of the Herald of Death. She infected herself with Shuhu's cells in a doomed effort to fight off the Supplicants who had gathered to oppose her, turning into the Paramount Bliss Inverted: Illwish Archlotus, but she was eventually killed through the combined efforts of Ashveil, the Trailblazer, Sunday, Blade, and Dan Heng.[18]
Following Fulwish's defeat, Sunday used his Harmonic Tuning to gather all remaining Shuhu cells across Planarcadia and concentrate them within Blade. This caused Shuhu to manifest as a massive tree over the planet. However, Silver Wolf intervened by altering the parameters of reality, compressing Shuhu back into Blade's body, where Blade ultimately succeeded in wrestling back control from Shuhu.[18]
