Asat Pramad is a Lord Ravager of the Antimatter Legion and an Emanator of Destruction.[8]

Formerly a legendary Masked Fool known as Enroute, he left the Tavern and joined the Astral Express Crew under the name Isee, serving as the Express' Navigator after Akivili's fall.[4]

Description

Some say Asat Pramad is the most human of the Overlords, while others argue he's the least. Rarely seen on the front lines, he prefers to orchestrate from afar — more chess master than warlord, moving his legions with methodical precision.

Worlds that fall under his gaze are consumed by waves and waves of slow, cruel jokes — like the infamous fall of the Ogul ring. Over a century, Asat Pramad advanced his Voidrangers inch by inch, just to force the military line of the resistance into the shape of a single line of text: "Destruction is where laughter ends. It is mourning, not celebration."

Known as the one who destroys Elation, Asat Pramad embraces the title. When his work is done, he scorches a giant smiling face into the surface of every dead planet, as if mocking the very idea of life.

Profile

His true name is unknown, but Asat has lived under many aliases throughout the years, most notably Enroute and Isee, before becoming the person he is today.[4] Although he serves Nanook, he predates the Aeon and personally witnessed THEIR birth.[9]

Asat possesses a wide range of abilities, including flight, pyrokinesis, enhanced speed, and the ability to exist in multiple places at once. His signature ability involves casting his dice head, allowing him to observe every possible future and determine the outcome he desires, a power he frequently employs in combat. Additionally, Asat can disguise himself as other individuals and has demonstrated the ability to maintain such deceptions for years.[6]

As Enroute

Asat's earliest known identity was Enroute, a legendary and beloved figure among the Masked Fools. His friends included Bragi, Old Lamp, Ophelia, Shepherd, and White Wasp. Enroute's time as a Masked Fool is shrouded in mystery, and many tales are told about him. Some legends portray him as a skilled fighter and a devout follower of the Elation.[4]

Enroute was known for appearing wherever he was unwelcome.[10] Many believed this was due to the Ring of Misfortune, which he had allegedly won from Aha.[11] In reality, however, it was the Everstride Boots, another relic blessed by Aha, that were responsible for this bizarre ability.[12]

According to Bragi, Enroute was once the most joyful of all the Fools. Over time, however, he grew disillusioned with the Masked Fools, finding them no longer amusing. Before departing the Tavern, he declared that "Elation has been dead for a long time" and set out to pursue a new goal: reaching the world's true end.[4][13]

As Isee

As Isee, he was known for his charisma, earning the respect of his peers. He spent his days recording astral charts and socializing with his fellow passengers, including Akivili, the Aeon of Trailblaze. He performed a stand-up comedy routine every night that was enjoyed by the other Nameless aboard the Express. However, he never laughed at his own jokes, a habit that some of his colleagues found odd.[14] Following Akivili's abrupt fall and Dolly's departure, the responsibilities of the Navigator fell to him. However, Akivili's fall had also deeply affected him. He gradually came to view the Path of Trailblaze as a dead end to his ambition of reaching the world's true end, while his hatred of Elation grew even stronger.[9][15]

As Asat Pramad

Soon afterward, he adopted the name Asat Pramad and developed a sadistic disposition as a Lord Ravager, dedicating himself to the destruction of the Path of Elation.[8] The List of Archenemies compares him to a chess player,[16] while the File Repository compares him to someone observing an ant colony.[17] Calm and composed, he studies and researches the civilizations he attacks, commanding his invasion forces with the utmost care and strategically ordering them to advance slowly and overwhelm the enemy, denying them any chance of resistance.[8]

History

As Enroute

Asat's earliest known identity was as the legendary Masked Fool, Enroute.

Enroute created the Golden Branches, which granted anyone who touched them the Midas Touch. They eventually arrived in the Laurel Wreath galaxy, where they sparked a hundred-year-long war.[1]

During the First Mechanical Emperor's War, the Philosopher Union fell to the Machine Empire, led by Rubert I, and became a domain of inorganic life after the last Philosopher King, Aurelius, was executed by machine delegates. However, Enroute, along with the other Masked Fools, created a troll virus known as the "Philosopher's Poison," which overthrew the local robot army and restored the Philosopher Union to human control.[1][18]

Much of Enroute's time as a Masked Fool remains shrouded in mystery. One legend claims that he, alongside his companions Shepherd, Dorothy, and Bragi, was swallowed by Oroboros. Within the Voracity's belly existed countless kingdoms. The group explored these strange realms until they reached Oroboros's heart. There, Enroute managed to pluck THEIR shadow after Shepherd cast out a "comet" whose light distracted the Leviathan, allowing them to escape successfully.[13][19]

Another legend recounts that the Aeon Aha lost a wager to Enroute and, as payment, granted him the Ring of Misfortune.[11] Over time, however, Enroute grew disillusioned with the Path of Elation. Disappointed with the Path's lack of ability to help him achieve his goal of bringing joy to the entire universe, he came to view its excesses as hollow and found the Masked Fools themselves no longer amusing. Abandoning the Tavern, he set out in search of the world's true end, which he hoped would show him a way to “save” Elation and set it on the path he desired.[4][13]

As Isee

After leaving the Tavern, Asat boarded the Astral Express under the alias Isee, hoping that traveling with the Nameless would eventually lead him to the world's true end. He joined the crew during the tenure of Dolly as Navigator of the Astral Express.[4] As Isee, he spent his days charting the stars, recording astral routes, and socializing with both his fellow Nameless and Akivili THEMSELF. Each night, he performed stand-up comedy routines that were well received by the crew. Curiously, however, he never laughed at his own jokes, a habit that some of his colleagues found odd.[14] Although his travels aboard the Astral Express were initially fulfilling, Isee gradually became more jaded. He watched many of the worlds the Express had aided descend into what he viewed as "shameful spectacles" in pursuit of the Path of Elation. These experiences deepened his disillusionment and caused him to increasingly question his purpose among the Nameless.[15] However, he also observed that humanity and its virtues often shined brighter in these hellish environments of their own making.

During their journey, Akivili mysteriously fell and disappeared. Soon afterward, Dolly began suffering from an irreversible anomalous crystallization. Three days before her departure, she entrusted Isee with the position of Navigator.[20] Following her leave, he found himself leading the Astral Express through one of the most turbulent periods in its history.[21]

To his fellow Nameless, including Falcon Amundsen, Isee appeared to be an exceptionally capable and charismatic leader. His decisiveness was credited with ensuring the Astral Express's survival in the aftermath of Akivili's fall.[14] Beneath this image, however, he was undergoing an ideological collapse. Akivili's disappearance convinced him that the Path of Trailblaze was a dead end, incapable of bringing him closer to the world's true end. At the same time, his hatred of Elation intensified. In later logs, he described it as a Path that "turns people into beasts" and referred to Aha as a "god beyond saving."[9]

Under the guise of "playing a game," Isee began dispatching troublesome Nameless on increasingly dangerous missions to maintain order. Those who violated the rules of these games, or failed them, were killed by his hand.[1][14] The final turning point came when he witnessed the birth of Nanook on Adlivun. Following the event, he authored a rambling and heavily censored log, suggesting a shift in his worldview. Shortly thereafter, he abruptly resigned as Navigator, being succeeded by Falcon Amundsen, and departed the Astral Express.[9][14]

After Ashveil's homeworld, Kronstadt, was destroyed by the Lord Ravager Zulo, he encountered Isee during his travels. Isee guided Ashveil to the "shadow" of Voracity,[4][22] one of the many remnants of Oroboros. Ashveil led the Galaxy Rangers to confront it. Together, they succeeded in suppressing the shadow of Voracity and sealing it within Ashveil's right arm.[4]

Isee's historical records have been heavily altered by the History Fictionologists, making many accounts of his later life unreliable. Although the Omen Vanguards emerged around the same time that he departed the Astral Express, there is no conclusive evidence linking him to the group. Available records instead indicate that Isee was enticed by the Destruction, making any association with the Omen Vanguards unlikely.[21]

As Asat Pramad

At some unknown point, Asat was elevated to an Emanator of Destruction by Nanook. He refers to a 'battle to the death' with the Aeon during his fight with the Astral Express. Like other Lord Ravagers, his body was reforged on Warforge after his ascension.

Asat unconditionally believes that Aha is destined to lose THEMSELF to THEIR own Elation, and thus positions himself and his devotion to destruction as a form of salvation for the Aeon. As such, he targets the Path of Elation and seeks to bestow a "baptism of suffering" upon the worlds under his gaze.

True to his sadistic nature, the worlds that fell under his gaze were subjected to slow and meticulously planned destruction, with the fall of Ogul Ring being among his most infamous events. Asat Pramad advanced his Voidrangers inch by inch, forcing the resistance's defensive line into the shape of a single sentence: "Destruction is where laughter ends. It is mourning, not celebration."[8] Red Babel met a similar fate. The Legion advanced toward the front line at a painstakingly slow pace, steadily building an advantage, exerting pressure, and eroding all resistance. Like an observer studying an ant colony, he watched his victims endure a gradual structural collapse.[16]

On the planet Darennar, Asat Pramad worked as a professor at the Darennar National Institute of Political Science and Economics. In a discussion with a young student from his class, he proposed a change to the voting system to replace the usually rigged polls and ballots with a show called 'Councilor Dash,' using audience popularity votes and ratings instead. The student became the planet's head of state twenty years later, and in another fifty years, Darennar society had suffered near complete collapse. Less than five years after that, the civilization was wiped from existence.[23]

In 2148 Amber Era, Asat's forces attempted to invade Ahatopia. During the invasion, he discovered Graphia as an infant on the verge of death. Seeing her cold and lifeless body reminded him of the Parable of the Masked Fools. This led Asat to infuse Graphia with the power of Destruction, rebirthing her as a Voidranger. He then taught her to paint monstrous beasts using the power of the Voracity in order to carry out the Antimatter Legion's will.[6][24]

However, after the Astral Express crashed on Ahatopia due to Asat's machinations, Graphia had a change of heart and led the rebels against his advancing armies. Subsequently, with the help of all eight Supplicants[25][26] of the Phantasmoon Games, including herself, and Evanescia,[4] Graphia gathered vast amounts of Wishpower and successfully repelled the Antimatter Legion by sealing Ahatopia within one of her paintings.[6] This period of invasion became known as the "Cindearth Age," and the people of Ahatopia subsequently referred to Asat as the "Demon Lord from Beyond."[27]

In Amber Era 2157, a Doctor of Chaos attempted to create an afterlife using the prize of temporary Aeonhood they had earned by winning the Phantasmoon Games. During this period, reports emerged of the spirit of former Astral Express Navigator Isee briefly resurfacing on Adlivun. However, it remains unknown whether this sighting was actually Asat visiting Adlivun in his old uniform, as he was alive and active at the time, or whether the entire incident was fabricated by the History Fictionologists.[28][29]

Present

Prior to the game's events, Ryusuke crossed paths with Asat at the entrance to the site of Murata Roan's funeral, just before Ryusuke was about to meet his daughter for the first time. Asat killed Ryusuke and subsequently assumed his identity, introducing himself as Ryusuke to Ryusuke's six-year-old daughter, Himeko. Unaware of the deception, she believed that her long-absent father had finally returned to her side.[6] By introducing her to the Astral Express, he hoped to one day use the Trailblaze, through Himeko, to bring an end to the Trailblaze itself.[1]

Asat is implied to have been involved in the original Herald of Death tragedy during the Phantasmoon Games fifteen years ago as well as manipulating Fulwish and supplying her with Shuhu's cells which she later transplanted across 200,000 Planarcadians.[30][31]

After the Astral Express returned to Planarcadia, Asat donned the disguise of Ryusuke and confronted Himeko and the Trailblazer at Graphia Academy after the battle against Sparxie had concluded.[32] Through his deception, Asat reminisced with Himeko. However, she eventually began to notice inconsistencies: Ryusuke's jokes were seemingly recognized by "Shush", and he possessed knowledge of events that were considered little more than legends among the present-day Express Crew.[33] As they strolled through Graphia Academy, Asat deduced the truth behind how the Herald of Death had originally met his end, believing that the Himeko standing before him was merely an imagenae created by the young Himeko who had perished due to the Weathering Curse. Discarding his disguise, Asat launched his coordinated assault on Planarcadia. He simultaneously confronted Welt, Yao Guang, Dan Heng, Himeko, and Ashveil across different locations.[6]

To bypass his ability to manipulate outcomes, Yao Guang had to use the Kālacakra Skyplume in order to reveal his true form at the cost of disappearing herself. Asat laughed at the outcome before inviting the Trailblazer for a talk, where he allowed them to ask eight questions of their choosing. He would give them a "truth" depending on the outcome of the die; a full, accurate truth for the best rolls, or a half-truth for the worst rolls. As their last question, they asked about Himeko, which he truthfully answered regardless of the outcome. With all questions answered, Asat revealed his true form and fought the Astral Express, easily overwhelming them. The Trailblazer, refusing to let Himeko die, used the Stellaron to reverse time and create an outcome in which they were victorious.[34] He revealed that he had planned to sacrifice the Supplicants to THEM, but since this wasn't possible with his defeat, he offered his own body instead to awaken the husk, but not before giving the Trailblazer his head as a reward for their efforts.[35] The head would be brought to Astropolis where it was given to Arita for safekeeping in return for his vote against weaponizing the husk, but it would instead be secretly given to Yabuli, who planned to extract all he knew about the Voracity.[36]

  • Should the player try to skip his dice game during the mission Limelight, he will break the fourth wall and chastise the player for doing so.
  • Interastral Peace Entertainment managed to create a die based on Asat Pramad's head, but it always lands on the same number. The Intelligentsia Guild speculates that this is because "randomness is an essential component of Elation," quoting, "If a die knew its result before being cast, wouldn't that take all the fun out of it?"[37]

  • Asat Pramad seems to be derived from the Sanskrit word असत् ásat, meaning "non-existent," and the Hindi word प्रमाद pramād, meaning either "negligence," "error," "intoxication," or "frenzy."
  • 归寂 guījì refers to the act of death in Chinese Buddism.
    • 归 guī means "to return (to)," and 寂 jì means "non-existent."
  • The Sanskrit term Saṃvartasthāyi, in the title "Lord of Saṃvartasthāyi," means "voidness," "nothingness."[38]
  • The name Isee in Chinese, 我见, translates literally to "I see." It may also refer to the concept of ātmadṛṣṭi (Sanskrit: आत्मदृष्टि) in Buddhism, the view or thesis that there is a self.
    • The name used in Korean, 아집, likely alludes to the attachment of self or ego in Buddhism, ātmagrāha (Sanskrit: आत्मग्राह).
