Flight of Fancy's animation is based on pre-film animation techniques that used the stroboscopic effect to create the illusion of moving images.
- Whilst the 2D style of the bird animation refers to the zoopraxiscope and other devices, the subject being birds in flight could be referring to the 3D zoetrope Étienne-Jules Marey created using a series of plaster models to depict the flight of a gull.

Etymology

The word "flight of fancy" is an idiom, meaning an unrealistic idea or pipe dream.
