Story 01
There is Only One Truth
The colossal figure before you crashes to the ground with a thunderous boom, and you and the Agents all let out a collective sigh of relief.
"Hmph! Before the mighty 'Angels of Delusion' Hollow squad, a mere Ethereal is nothing!"
"Huh? But didn't a certain crybaby just get so scared she fell flat on her butt?"
Faced with the bickering Sunna and Nangong, and Aria's frantic attempts to mediate, you rest your chin in your hand, lost in thought—it seems this is the final destination the clues have led you to. All that's left now is to search this place thoroughly and find the evidence the mysterious client wants.
But for some reason, you can't shake the feeling that things have gone far too smoothly, as if every decision you've made has been guided by some unseen force, following along a woven path leading to this exact moment—almost like puppets following a "script"...
Wait! A flash of insight hits you—you realize that everything you've done up until now has been part of someone's plan. You quickly stop Nangong and Sunna from getting into a scuffle and share your theory with everyone...
"Ever since we got here… I've had this gnawing feeling that things have been going way too smoothly. And now, the anomalies I'm seeing all around this place? Yeah, that's basically confirming my hunch..."
You scan the room and notice all three Agents are listening intently to your words. Perfect! Every great detective needs a captive audience, right? You nod to yourself, satisfied, and continue your deduction.
"Hold on, Fairy! My internal monologue is NOT that twisted normally."
"During the previous simulation phase, I informed Master that when sufficient data is unavailable, I will automatically fill narrative gaps based on logical reasoning."
Well… guess you'll just have to accept that your character is a bit too self-satisfied.
You propose that the mastermind behind all this might actually be the mysterious man who gave you the commission in the first place: the evidence he's seeking must be something damaging to him personally, and he actually wants to destroy it. But since he can't pinpoint its exact location on his own, he's using you and your calculating-genius Supreme Assistant—plus the three Agents who came into the Hollow to help you out.
At that very moment, a small recorder drops down from a suddenly appearing Hollow fissure. You warn the Agents not to approach it rashly, but the recorder starts beeping with a countdown...
No need to panic—you've already achieved clarity on the truth! But just as you're about to speak up...
Sunna zooms out from nowhere, blurting, "Th-This recorder isn't a time bomb disguised as a recorder. W-We gotta flip the logic around, it's actually a recorder disguised as a time bomb!"
The little detective's got a bit of a stutter going, but that doesn't stop her from delivering what should've been YOUR lines with total conviction. Darn it, this is supposed to be the detective's big reveal scene—how'd the witness who's supposed to be LISTENING steal your spotlight?!
Whatever, no biggie—you just need to explain the mechanics behind the events next. However, your scene gets hijacked again...
"Stop, Fairy! Skip this character-breaking monologue."
"Yes, Master. Loading skip sequence..."
According to Nangong's theory, the mysterious client must've wanted to destroy the recorder in a place where no one would know, so they exploited its special property—that it "automatically plays recorded files at fixed intervals."
Aria immediately backs up this theory: The client mapped out a plan based on the recorder's automatic playback schedule, from issuing the commission to having you find the recorder. And when that countdown started playing, you'd naturally choose to cautiously evacuate the Hollow. That way, this little distraction trick would succeed without anyone being the wiser.
Sure, the "Angels of Delusion" might've stolen the spotlight, but no worries—you still haven't delivered that classic line yet. As long as that line belongs to you, you're still the "Greatest Detective" in the Hollow!
Reminded by your Supreme Assistant, you slip on gloves and carefully place the recorder into an evidence bag you somehow had ready on you. Striking the pose of a professional detective, you raise your index finger and declare the one and only truth.
"There is only one truth—this time bomb IS the evidence itself!"
Hollow Detective's Defeat
The massive figure before you crashes to the ground, and you and the Agents collectively breathe a sigh of relief.
"Heh! Against the might of the 'Angels of Delusion' Hollow Squad, that Ethereal was nothing!"
"Huh? But didn't a certain crybaby just get so scared she fell flat on her butt?"
Faced with the bickering Sunna and Nangong, and Aria frantically trying to mediate, you rest your chin in your hand, lost in thought—it seems this is the final destination the clues have led you to. All that's left is to thoroughly search this place and find the evidence the mysterious client wants.
But for some reason, you can't shake the feeling that things have gone too smoothly, as if every decision you've made has been guided by some unseen force, following a carefully woven path leading to this very moment—like a puppet following a script...
However, every decision made in the Hollow was the result of meticulous calculations by your Supreme Assistant. You force down the unease rising in your throat: regardless, stay alert...
"A-Are you saying I was getting in your way just now!? Damn it! Bubblegum, bite her!"
"I didn't say that at all, did I, Aria?"
Your thoughts are interrupted by the girls' playful catfight... Ahem, looks like before you can continue searching this area for evidence, you'll need to settle the squabble between your Agents...
Your hunch was right on the money—a Hollow fissure beyond all calculations appears right in front of you and your Agents. A small recording disc tumbles out. Could this be the evidence you've been looking for? But your gut tells you otherwise.
"Manager, watch out! Fall back a bit—something's seriously off with this evidence!"
Aria's right. You tell the other two to keep a safe distance as well, until an ominous beeping sound starts up from the ground nearby. Oh no, that looks like a disguised time bomb...
"Master, real-time scans detect Ether fluctuations coming from what appears to be a recording device in front of us."
"M-Manager, this is giving me major bad vibes... We should bounce, like, now... or I'll never see my fans again, wahhh..."
"I mean, it's probably not as dire as Sunna's making it sound, but better safe than sorry... Most importantly, I'm worried about you getting hurt, Manager..."
"Manager... should we... leave?"
Faced with three Agents staring at you with concern in their eyes, you grit your teeth and ignore that voice of opposition inside you... Yeah, no commission is worth risking your lives over. There's nothing on the other side of the scale worth going all-in for. You glance back at the still-beeping metal device one last time, and make the call to retreat.
Rapidly calculating the surrounding Ether reaction, simulating, charting the shortest route... this whole routine? Second nature to you as a Proxy. No reason for regrets—that thing is a ticking time bomb... You shoot a look at the three Angels of Delusion members, telling them not to sweat it, because you're definitely getting them out of this Hollow safe and sound...
The moment you and the Agents slip through the Hollow's fissure, that ominous countdown finally stops... But the explosion you were expecting? Never comes.
The unease in your chest keeps churning—looks like you've all stumbled right into someone's trap without even realizing it.
"Wait, Fairy, couldn't we have just defused the bomb?"
"Master, rather than recklessly messing with an unknown device, retreating was the optimal choice at that moment. This conclusion was based on reasonable analysis of the situation."
You accept your assistant's explanation. Seems like when something like that goes down, if nobody firmly objects in the moment, that really was the most logical move you could've made—sure, losing the evidence sucks, but you and the Agents only get one life.
