Pre-Quest Dialogue

(Approach Vinezka and Jary near the Teleport Waypoint at the train station in Morepesok for the first time, optional)
???: ...For goodness' sake, I'm not an adventurer or anything like that. I'm just picking up goods for someone. I'm out of there soon as the tunnel blasting's done.
???: But you know what the creepy thing is? They say that no one who has ventured into Okurov has ever come back out...
???: And who in their right mind would have their goods there? What if this is all a setup? What if you get robbed by a bunch of hooligans the moment you get there?
Paimon: Excuse us, we're Paimon and (‍Traveler‍). We're adventurers who travel the world.
Paimon: We heard you talking about some town called... um... Okurovo or Oguro-voro or something. It's actually where we're headed!
Vinezka: Oh. Hello, my name is Vinezka. And this is Jary, my fiancé.
Vinezka: Are you on an adventure to Okurov? But it was abandoned a long time ago. And the train can't even get in there now.
Vinezka: But, I know of a few folks who are planning to go there to pick up some goods. They're the ones who hired my fiancé to blast open the tunnel for them.
Jary: That's right. But Vinezka over here doesn't want me to go now, so I have no choice but to pay a hefty penalty now.
Vinezka: Hmph! I can't believe I'm actually catching the blame here. This is for your own good! Won't the two of you say something reasonable here?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Sure. I'm always happy to be the voice of reason.
Vinezka: ...Back in the day, everyone used to say that Okurov was a great place to be. The weather there was warm enough, and there even was a famous doctor there. At that time, moving to Okurov seemed like the most natural thing to do.
Vinezka: But later on, someone realized that no one who has gone into Okurov had ever come back out since...
Vinezka: There's a line from "Tales of the Strange From Okurov" that reads, "Deep in a beautiful mountain valley lives a magnificent firebird, a bird so beautiful that it is impossible to look away from it..."
Vinezka: "Its wings, when spread, are so large they can blot out the sky; its eyes gleam like gemstones, while its feathers dazzle like gold. All who behold it cannot help themselves but follow it deep into the valley..."
Paimon: So you're saying, nobody can get out of that Okurovo place or something because that firebird is so pretty?
Vinezka: No, that's not what I mean. They probably were eaten by that firebird.
Jary: Oh, for goodness' sake, Vinezka. If that sort of monster really exists, would it have left Okurov to eat everyone else by now? I've never seen a bird like that myself, that's for sure.
Vinezka: I don't care. You're not going in either case.
Jary: Tsk. Then I'll have to get someone to go in my place at least...
Paimon: Hmm... An abandoned town and a legend of a strange creature...
Paimon: (Hey, Goggles, (‍Traveler‍). Do you guys think this might be related to the thing Goggles is looking for?)
Eye of Graeae: ...Based on the description, it does appear that there is some kind of connection.
Jary: *Sigh* But where can I find someone on such short notice???
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'll do it! What is an adventurer, if not one who keeps adventuring?
Vinezka: Oh? How terribly kind of you! Looks like Jary won't be going then... I wish you two a most fruitful adventure! Jary and I will be praying for you!
(Talk to Vinezka and Jary, optional)
Jary: I'm really worried they'll come for me...
Icon Dialogue Talk White A hundred-times penalty isn't reasonable.
Jary: Well, yes, you're right, but I already signed the contract...
Jary: Besides, I wouldn't know where to get the money to buy my fiancée a shiny wedding ring without this payment.
Vinezka: No ring is more important than your safety, no matter how shiny it is...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'll finish this job for you.
Vinezka: Anyway, I want to thank you on his behalf... Ever since I found out he took this job, I've been having trouble sleeping. I can finally be at ease tonight...
Vinezka: Of course, if they really come demanding a hundred-times penalty, I'll bear it with him. That's still better than him putting himself in danger.
Jary: Oh, Vinezka...

Dialogue

(Approach the starting location)
Paimon: Are we going the right way? You know, a nice hot bowl of soup would be perfect right now...
Paimon: I—It's so cold in here! W—Why are there these scary-looking Volkodlak here...?
Paimon: ...Looks like they're up to no good. Let's stay cautious and keep an eye on them...
(Approach the Volkodlak)
???: Hey! Where the hell did you two drop in from? You ain't here to swipe our loot, are ya!?
(Available if the Pre-Quest Dialogue was completed)
Icon Dialogue Talk White We're just here to help blow the tunnel open.
The Anvil: I don't remember askin' for two little runts for the job... You two think "The Anvil" is a pushover, huh??? I'll show you what I'm made of!
(Available if the Pre-Quest Dialogue was not completed)
Icon Dialogue Talk White We're just passing by, that's all...
The Anvil: You kiddin' me! Nobody just "passes by" around here! You think "The Anvil" is an idiot, huh??? I'll show you what I'm made of!
Icon Dialogue Talk White We didn't say that!
The Anvil: Hmph! You two punks still wanna talk back? Time for "The Anvil" to teach ya some manners!
(While fighting the Volkodlak)
The Anvil: I'll make this easy for you... if you beg!
(After defeating the Volkodlak)
The Anvil: I'm sorry! I'm sorry, you two! I screwed up, alright? I didn't know who I was messin' with!
Paimon: Hey, hey, hey — so now you're begging for mercy after doing something bad, huh? Get him good, (‍Traveler‍)!
(The Traveler draws their sword and points it at The Anvil)
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'm on it!
The Anvil: Wait, stop, stop!!! I can pay ya! I got cash...
The Anvil: You see that tunnel over there? That's how we snuck into town... and that's where our stash is right now. All the loot we swiped from Okurov is inside.
The Anvil: But hey... obviously, all that stuff's yours now.
The Anvil: Although...
Paimon: Although what? You're not trying to go back on your word, are you???
The Anvil: Naw, naw, naw, no one's backin' out of nothing, man! It's just... the tunnel entrance is all caved in. I can't get in there, and neither can you.
The Anvil: Took me a whole lot of wrangling just to get this naive little punk to help me, and then I went and got the dynamite all ready according to his little plan.
The Anvil: But he kept dragging his feet, while me and my boys were about to freeze into bloody icicles... and then you're the ones who show up instead.
The Anvil: Least I can still go squeeze him for that hundred-times breach of contract fee he owes me. Otherwise, this whole thing would be a total bust!
Icon Dialogue Talk White A penalty of 100 times? That seems a bit much.
Paimon: Right??? That's daylight robbery!
The Anvil: And so what if it's daylight robbery?
(The Traveler raises their sword again, and The Anvil flinches back)
The Anvil: Look, I didn't mean to... But it's not like I got any other choice. Lookin' for loot in Okurov? That's risky business, man.
The Anvil: Though we didn't run into that giant firebird everyone's been yappin' about, we still near about kicked the bucket tryin' to haul out... that super rare treasure.
The Anvil: And now that all that loot ain't mine anymore, I gotta find a way to make sure I don't lose my shirt at least...
Paimon: Hey! Robbery is wrong no matter what your reasons are! If it weren't for the fact that (‍Traveler‍) knows how to fight...
Icon Dialogue Talk White You should really turn over a new leaf while there's still time.
Icon Dialogue Talk White A hundred-times penalty...
The Anvil: I won't do it again... I swear, from here on out, I'm making myself scarce, and you ain't ever gonna see my face again...
Icon Quest Step Step Description

According to "The Anvil," the stash is inside that abandoned tunnel right up ahead...
(Enter the broken train carriage)
Paimon: According to "The Anvil," the tunnel leading to Okuro-vuro should be right up ahead. What does it look like to you, Goggles?
Eye of Graeae: ...The feeling I have is certainly much stronger than before.

Welcome to Okurov! Let's build a happy home for tomorrow together!
(Approach the entrance)
Paimon: Huh? This must be that blocked-off tunnel...
(Approach the cart of explosives, optional)‍[Verify this open-world dialogue]
Paimon: Whoa, that's... a lot of explosives! Hmm, we have to find a way to get this car to the tunnel entrance!
Eye of Graeae: I detect explosive material that has been prepared nearby. Maybe we can use that.
(Destroy the Grappling Gun)
(The mine cart is released and crashes into the blockage, detonating upon impact)
Paimon: Yay! We did it!
(Approach the stash of crates in front of the entrance)
Paimon: Huh? Is this really the treasure that "The Anvil" was talking about???
(Use a Grappling Gun to open one of the containers)
Paimon: Hmm... Let's see what's inside these containers first.
(Enter the space behind the container)
Eye of Graeae: I detect other signs of life in the vicinity...
Paimon: Other signs of life? Nearby? That... doesn't sound reassuring at all.
(Take a right inside the containers and approach an unconscious girl lying inside)
Paimon: Whoa... (‍Traveler‍), is that a little girl...? With tree branches growing out of her head!? That has to be some kind of decoration... right? Nobody actually has branches growing out of their head like that!!!
Paimon: I—Is she s-still alive? Is she where the "signs of life" are coming from?
Paimon: That "super rare treasure" The Anvil was talking about... could it be...?
???: *Sobs loudly* Please let me go... I don't have any treasure...
Paimon: Ow! You gave Paimon a real scare there!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Calm down, Paimon. It's just a little girl.
Paimon: Uhhh... sorry about that. Don't be scared — we won't hurt you! We're the ones who just freed you, actually.
???: Oh... I thought I was gonna get kidnapped again... Those Volkodlak! If Zhara were here, she'd beat them up so bad, they'd turn into total dum-dum losers!
Paimon: "Those Volkodlak"...? Are you talking about The Anvil and his men...? Anyway, don't worry, we've already taught them a lesson! But who is this "Zhara" you're talking about...?
???: Zhara is family, and she watches over the town. Oh, I live in Okurov, but I have no idea where I am right now...
???: I've been away from home for a while... Mama must be crying... going rustle, rustle with her leaves...
Paimon: (‍Traveler‍),Goggles' body might just be in that place! Eh... Oku... Okuro... Okuro-vuro!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Okuro-vuro, Okuro-vuro!
Paimon: Tsk, fine! Paimon can't remember the name of that town! But that's not the important thing right now!
Paimon: The important thing is... since this little girl is heading back to town too, why don't we go together? She can show us the way!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Wow, what a happy coincidence!
Paimon: Right? Isn't tha—— Hey! That's not what Paimon was talking about, either! Stop cutting in like that!
Paimon: What Paimon is saying is, since this little girl is heading back to town too, we can go together with her! She can show us the way!
Paimon: Ahem, tell you what. My name is Paimon, and this here is (‍Traveler‍).(‍He‍/She‍) [sic] is a super awesome adventurer. We were just on our way to the town to... Um... do some sightseeing!
Paimon: How about we take you back to town?
Nastya: Wow! Two awesome adventurers are gonna take me home? You two are so nice! My name is Nastya. Now we are friends, and very soon we will be family.
Paimon: Hang on, hang on... isn't it a bit too soon for us to be "family"?
Nastya: Heh, that's true. Plus, so much has to happen before we can become family anyway...
Nastya: (‍Big Brother‍/Big Sister‍) (‍Traveler‍), Paimonka, let's go back to town first! I can show you the way once we get there.
Paimon: "Paimonka"? "Little Paimon"...? Huh. That sounds pretty weird... Nastya, you're not that much bigger than Paimon, you know! But at least it's not a horrible nickname...
Paimon: Anyway, let your Best Travel Guide Ever over here figure out which way we need to go first!
(The three leave the container and approach the barred entrance)
Paimon: Didn't that Anvil guy say this tunnel would take us to town? Then we should just follow the tracks! But... it looks like the way here is still blocked...
Nastya: Oh? I know a way. But I need your help.
(Nastya summons a orange glowing hook on the obstruction)
Nastya: Yes... That should do it...
Paimon: Huh, how did you do that?
Nastya: It's quite simple, really. You'll pick it up real quick if you wanna learn, I'm sure!
Icon Quest Step Step Description

It appears that with Nastya's help, you can open up the path to Okurov...
(Talk to Nastya, optional)
Nastya: Huh? Is something wrong?
Icon Dialogue Talk White How long have you been here, Nastya?
Nastya: I dunno. My eyes were closed the whole time... There wasn't any sun here, and no one else, either. I just kept sleeping, until you found me.
Nastya: So for me, maybe only a little while passed by. But for my family waiting for me, maybe it's been a long, long time...
Icon Dialogue Talk White No. I need to try a few more things.
Nastya: Yeah, I believe you.
(Place a Grappling Gun to pull the hook and remove the obstruction)
Paimon: Awesome! We did it!!!
Icon Quest Step Step Description

The path is open. Now, keep going with Nastya.
(Go inside the tunnel)
Nastya: This is my first time ever outside Okurov! All my friends are gonna be super jealous!
Nastya: Too bad I was stuck inside there for so long, so I haven't gotten to see much of the outside world anyway...
(Continue onward)
Nastya: ...But I really miss mama, and my friends, too.
Paimon: Don't worry! You should be able to see them soon.
(Approach the broken train carriage)
Paimon: Huh? Why is there another train here?
(Read the Interactable inside the carriage, optional)
