Alia (Historical)

Alia is a historical Frostmoon Scion who lived 500 years ago. She was Aila's older twin sister, and played a crucial part in stopping Rauthvangi. While she succeeded, it came at the cost of her life.^[1]

She was also the second Reed Miller after the death of Avrelian.

Profile

Alia lived five hundred years ago. From birth, she and her younger twin sister Aila were raised in seclusion by their adoptive grandmother Lovia, the Frostmoon Scions' Archpriestess. Under her instruction, they slew other Frostmoon Scions and drank their blood to increase their own bloodline purity. Alia eventually escaped Hiisi Island and played a crucial role in defeating Rauthvangi.

Like several others of the Frostmoon Scions bloodline, Alia has the ability to wield kuuvahki.^[5]

Story

Around 500 years ago, an unnamed Maiden with exceptionally pure blood was born to the Frostmoon Scions, and was prophesied to bear the heir of Elysium. Instead, she eloped with a Snezhnayan soldier and killed herself after the current Archpriestess Lovia had Rauthvangi and his men bring her back to Hiisi Island. Lovia turned to Alia and Aila as potential replacements to bear the heir and became their adoptive grandmother.^[6] She compensated for the relative impurity of the twins' bloodline by having them assassinate other Frostmoon Scions and drink their blood.^[2][7]

Having only each other to rely on, the twin sisters vowed to one day leave the island together. Under unknown circumstances, allegedly through a kidnapping,^[8] Alia eventually escaped Hiisi Isle, leaving Aila to be the sole focus of Lovia's delusional plan.^[3]

After the death of Avrelian, Alia picked up Reed Miller's mask, became the second Reed Miller. She reorganized the Treasure Hoarder into a "highly disciplined, quasi-military force that almost resembled a religious order."^[9] She used this force to rob the governor's palace clean in a single night, and distribute the loot to the poor of Nasha Town.^[9] At some point, Alia met Solovei in order to intercept Rauthvangi's plans.^[1] They learned that Rauthvangi intended to use the Pillar of Embla to pierce the false sky and ascend to the "Elysium" he believed lay beyond it. She managed to foil Rauthvangi's plans to use the Sampo Mill at the Pillar of Embla by casting herself into the Sampo Mill and igniting it, at the cost of her life. After that, she remained inside the seam between time and space within the Pillar of Embla, guarding the Silver Lampwick. Over the centuries, she became the subject of local legends that claimed she was a fae.^[5]

Alia's final wishes were for Solovei to give her younger sister his future support (which he readily agreed to, as Aila was already his benefactor), and to pass on her final words to Aila: "She hoped that you would go on to live a life of happiness and freedom."^[1]

During the World Quest Series Nightingale's Song, Alia helps the Traveler and Illuga acquire the Silver Lampwick, which they use to defeat the last remaining Abyssal power of Rauthvangi under Kipumaki Cliff. After they succeed and the Abyssal power is cleansed, she has one final conversation with Rauthvangi before they both vanish.^[10]
