Burner of Cities

Burner of Cities is a historical Vila best known for her short-lived rebellion against the Tsaritsa, hoping to reclaim the glory days of the fae old nobility.^[1]

Profile

After the Tsaritsa assumed control over Snezhnaya and drastically reduced the privileges enjoyed by the old fae aristocracy, a female Vila grew increasingly disgruntled with the new Cryo Archon's reign. She gathered resentful fae under her banner and adopted the epithet "Burner of Cities" as she and her followers utilized the newly implemented railroad system to launch raids all over Snezhnaya.^[2]

Her ultimate plan to destroy the Kresnik's Torches was foiled by the joint forces of Izmaylov, the "guiding one" who founded the Luchkin, and other heroes who would later establish the High Table.^[3]

Appearance

The Burner of Cities is described as being as "beautiful as a pearl," constantly wearing a proud countenance.^[2]

Story

The Burner of Cities was of old fae nobility; after giving her name to human later known as the "guiding one," she indicated that the name she gave him was the "sacred name" which belonged to "the Princess's descendants," potentially referring to Saint Strivozha. At some point before adopting the epithet "Burner of Cities," she and the "guiding one" fought each other, with the Vila coming out victorious. The "guiding one" laughed off his loss, much to her annoyance.^[2]

The Burner of Cities joined forces with a certain wolf fae of Cirnareka and a pale fae known as the "wise one." With the help of the "wise one," she gathered a following and enflamed them with the idea of overthrowing the Tsaritsa and creating a new world. A Domovoy named Varenukha and a Volkodlak named Rafalovich were among her followers; Varenukha was ousted as a spy for the "guiding one" and executed,^[4] while Rafalovich grew disillusioned with the Burner of Cities' cause and defected.^[5]

At some point, the Burner of Cities had a rematch against the "guiding one" but lost; she rejected his offer of reconciliation and escaped. In her final bid to destroy Snezhnaya and herself with it, the Burner of Cities sought to destroy the Kresnik's Torches. The "guiding one" and the Luchkins stopped the scheme, although the exact events that occurred have been lost to time;^[2] all that is confirmed is that the "guiding one" and Manechka pursued the Burner of Cities underground, and both the "guiding one" and the Burner of Cities perished in the confrontation,^[2][3] leaving Manechka to assume leadership over the surviving Luchkins.^[6] Afterwards, the wolf fae was cut down by Rafalovich,^[5] while the "wise one" was slain by his former friend Eprokin, who had become the Director of the Snezhnaya Royal Railway Transport Bureau.^[7]

Izmaylov, who had forged weapons for the Luchkins, was able to claim credit for helping put an end to the Burner of Cities' scheme, contrary to his rival Alvis' expectations. He also made a pact with the surviving heroes, establishing the High Table and the Law,^[3] which remained in effect until Izmaylov's assassination shortly before the events of Chapter VII.
