Alvis

Alvis was Grand Duke of the Domovoy from before the unification of Snezhnaya by the Belyi Tsar 3,000 years ago up until his recent death. He was Lord of Kitezhgrad for the entire existence of the city up until its destruction during the Cataclysm 500 years ago, after which he founded the city of Novokitezhgrad.^[1][2]

Profile

Alvis is noted to be a particularly long-lived fae, described as having "appeared time and again throughout the history of [Snezhnaya]." He was a staunch ally of the Belyi Tsar even before the latter ruled all of Snezhnaya, and later set aside his deep-seated resentment and fear of humanity for the sake of Belyi Tsar's ultimate goal and taught Aksinya everything he knew.^[1]

Story

Around the time Kitezhgrad was established, Alvis joined Monomakh Snezhnyi^[3] and quickly monopolized the city's mining industry.^[1] Despite initially forming a peace treaty with the Kitezhgrad alliance, King Miscislav and his allies eventually grew discontent with them and launched an attack on Kitezhgrad. Alvis lured Grand Duke Vodyanoy, the ruler of Dalegrad, and his army away from the Frozen Lake — where they had a tactical advantage — and gave Belyi Tsar the opportunity to slay Vodyanoy. Miscislav himself was slain in the war, and Monomakh Snezhnyi thereafter claimed the title "Belyi Tsar."^[3]

Shortly over 500 years ago, while wandering Hyperborean ruins, the Belyi Tsar came upon a functioning life-preserving vessel holding an infant human girl, whom he took in.^[4] Alvis initially disliked Aksinya, as she came to be called, but gradually grew fond of her and became both her mentor and her friend.^[1] When the Belyi Tsar decided to revive a long-forgotten Hyperborean plan involving the creation or summoning of a "vast embryo," he established a new capital city, Snezhnograd; "pardoned" humanity;^[3] and invited the best and brightest minds among humans and fae alike to his new court.^[5] It was during this time that Rotwang, a Khaenri'ahn researcher exiled for dabbling in forbidden research, entered the Belyi Tsar's services. He and Alvis went on to lay a trap for Avrelian, forcing him out of the Royal Military Academy and making him turn to a life of banditry, in Rotwang's bid to have Avrelian steal the Frostmoon Scions' Sampo Mill for him.^[6] Eventually, Hvergelmir managed to create the Eye of Graeae, and seeing that Aksinya's ultimate plans would be ruinous, the Eye persuaded Alvis along with Koshchei and Pavlina to betray her by throwing her into the Shadow Realm.^[7]

In the modern day, Alvis was approached by Aksinya, who had escaped the Shadow Realm. She retrieved the Pebble of Crystalline Essence from him and also ensured he met an unwelcome fate.^[8]
