During Version "Luna VIII," Hurlock Variations is obtainable for free as a reward from the Sunny Summer Fontinalia event. In Version 7.0, it became purchasable in the Character Outfit Shop for the cost of Genesis Crystal ×1,680.

Description

"...So, let me get this straight. According to the original work, I'm meant to have a final showdown with Jacoba at the ruins of the Liliacruces Ordo, and in the end... no one knows if we even make it out alive?"
Charlotte asked, having finally accepted Lepine-Pauline's invitation to go over the script. She was set to star as Hurlock in the upcoming film, Great Detective Hurlock.
In Lepine-Pauline's script, the noble Detective Hurlock was a woman of sharp wit and sly intuition, while her assistant, Miss Jacoba, was a commanding lady who possessed as much physical prowess as she did wisdom. Yet, regardless of the adaptation, the story's core remained unchanged:
Orchestrated by the story's ultimate mastermind and antagonist, Miss Jacoba, Hurlock is swept into a succession of eerie and unsettling crimes. Finally, having pierced through the veil to uncover the truth, she makes for the ruins of the Liliacruces Ordo without a moment's hesitation, facing Jacoba in a final reckoning between good and evil...
Charlotte was, of course, intimately familiar with the story. After all, she had served as the editor-in-charge for the final chapter of Great Detective Hurlock.
In the final chapter, Hurlock and Jacoba plummet together from a tower cliff, leaving Agent Gina to arrive only to find Hurlock's cane lying discarded in the dirt...
Charlotte vividly remembered the day after that chapter went to print. A deluge of letters nearly drowned The Steambird's offices. Some readers proclaimed they had been inspired by Hurlock to become detectives themselves, and they simply could not bring themselves to accept their mentor's sacrificial plunge. Others demanded to know if the paper had pressured the author to wrap up the series prematurely, forcing a rushed and tragic conclusion upon the story. There were even those who stormed the front doors of the paper, desperate to confront the author in person...
And now, the very woman who once served as the editor-in-charge for that final chapter was about to bring the great detective to life on the silver screen. "Believe me, you couldn't be more perfect! In all of Fontaine, I'm certain there isn't a soul who understands Hurlock better than you. The role was made for you!"
Lepine-Pauline gripped Charlotte's hands tightly — half out of genuine excitement and recognition, and half out of the sheer anxiety of having once again poured her last funds into a project that might never break even.
"I think I've read that exact line in a book somewhere..." Charlotte exhausted every means of escape to liberate her aching hands, but under Lepine-Pauline's relentless enthusiasm, they were soon recaptured.
"'Good grief, she's likely the one person in this world who knows you best, Hurlock. Don't let her lead you by the nose'... Is that the one? I've got it memorized by heart!"
"Actually... that line was spoken by Agent Gina, and she was referring to Jacoba. She was trying to talk Hurlock out of keeping her appointment at the ruins of the Liliacruces Ordo, right after she discovered Jacoba was the mastermind..."
"See? I knew I was right to bring you on board! Just look at you ― you're practically Jacoba herself"
"If you keep this up, I'm afraid my own inner villain might start to stir. And correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't I supposed to be playing Hurlock...?"
"Of course! But listen to me―"
The night stretched on as the two debated tirelessly — driven by a shared commitment to Hurlock's justice, and a much more desperate hope for the film's future box office returns.
Fortunately, a film is only a film, and the "dark side" shimmering in Charlotte's heart was nothing more than a professional flair, summoned for the sake of her performance...
"...Er, Miss Lepine—Pauline, I have a small request."
"Just say the word!"
"If this film ever gets a sequel, what would you think... of me as Jacoba?"
"Oh? You want to play the villain? That wicked genius, behind it all, the shadow beneath the candle, the serpent in the walls, Hurlock's arch-nemisis and dearest friend..."
"No! I mean, yes — but it's just a film, isn't it? Besides Hurlock, Jacoba is easily the most dynamic role in the script—"
"No problem! My intuition tells me that's a brilliant idea! I'll sink every last Mora from this film's earnings straight into the sequel!"
"E—Every single Mora? Are you quite sure you wouldn't like to think about it again!?"
"Never! This is how I work, and I'm going all in! And in the next one, you'll still be our leading lady!"
Ugh... The way you say that, it really does make me feel like I'm the mastermind behind it all..."

• The name "Hurlock" is possibly a reference to the titular character in the Maurice Leblanc stories Arsène Lupin versus Herlock Sholmes. This legally distinct spelling of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes is also used in the English localization of a character in the Ace Attorney games, a video game series that is referenced heavily in the mystery investigation portions of the Fontaine chapter of the Archon Quest.
• The name "Jacoba," a feminized version of the name "Jacob," is likely a coded allusion to James Moriarty, Sherlock Holmes's most famous enemy, as the name "James" derives from "Jacob." The planned death of Hurlock and Jacoba, a fall from a cliff, likely references Sherlock and Moriarty plunging from the Reichenbach Falls in "The Final Problem," after which Holmes is presumed dead.
• The text in the back of the Outfit Preview is written using Fontaine Script. The text seems to read "L'Oiseau de vapeur" - The Steambird in french
