Calypso

Calypso is an NPC on Amphoreus, located in Beyond Time: An Eternal Page. She was the Reason Titan, Cerces, in the penultimate cycle of Amphoreus.^[2]

Profile

Calypso is portrayed as calm, knowledgeable, and reasonable, traits she would retain as Cerces, who was described by Polyxia as "the wisest scholar in the land."^[2] Calypso rebuilt the Grove of Epiphany, a historical event later preserved in myth as "Cerces granting wisdom to humans" in the next cycle.^[6]

History

Antepenultimate Cycle

In the antepenultimate cycle of Amphoreus, Calypso was one of the Seven Sages of the Grove of Epiphany, as well as the demigod of Reason.^[3] She was acquainted with Gnaeus and Polyxia, and she taught the latter forbidden alchemical arts capable of reviving the dead. Calypso also instructed Polyxia in the law of equivalent exchange and was the one who performed the soul rending ceremony on Gnaeus, splitting his soul into five fragments before Era Nova.

She was also present during the trial of Death, where Castorice sacrificed herself to allow Polyxia to pass the trial and ascend as the demigod of Death.^[2]

Penultimate Cycle

After Era Nova arrived, Calypso became the Titan of Reason, Cerces, forgetting their past life. They manifested as a giant tree, known as the Sacred Tree. Beneath its shade, the Grove of Epiphany was established by Thalesus, the First Scholar. His teachings eventually gave rise to the seven schools, which led to the formation of the Seven Sages, with Cerces as their head.^[7]

After the fall of Nikador, the black tide and the Flame Reaver rapidly encroached upon the Grove and destroyed it. To prevent the Flame Reaver from seizing it, Calypso split their Coreflame into three parts. One fragment was implanted into the dead body of Anaxa, temporarily sustaining his life. With the combined efforts of the Trailblazer, Trianne, Castorice, and Cerces, who was possessing Anaxa's body, they managed to repel the Flame Reaver, though it nearly exhausted Trianne's divine powers.^[8]

Upon returning to Okhema, Cerces reminded Anaxa that, since a Coreflame is incompatible with a human body, he only had fifteen days to pass the trial of Reason, which was to answer the question: "What are we?"^[3]

Anaxa, with Castorice's help, proved his theory and answered the question, thereby passing the trial of Reason and ascending as the demigod of Reason. After pulling out the Coreflame from his chest and placing it within the Vortex of Genesis, both he and Cerces faded away.^[9]

After the events of Trailblaze Mission Fallen Petals, Leave Fading Traces of Fragrance, Calypso is revived inside As I've Written and reverts back to her human form.
