Magnus

Magnus, also known by his alias Cinderborne, is a NPC on Planarcadia, located in Seafeld TV Tower.
Profile
Cinderborne is the youngest member of the Daybreak Squadron, the lead actors of Planarcadia's popular show of the same name. He's equal parts enthusiastic, earnest, and self-doubting, and is a fan of the Astral Express and especially the Trailblazer.
In his youth, Magnus dropped out of high school and started joining street gangs, including the Synwish Syndicate. He would later leave that life behind after hearing of the Express's escapades and realizing he was harming rather than protecting. He subsequently joined the Daybreak Squadron, though unlike his peers, he had not been subjected to the Happiness Surgery and was not involved in the murders of Skott and the Synwish Syndicate.
Magnus meets the Trailblazer and two other members of the Astral Express in-person during their tour of Pearluxe Tower. Later during the tour, he, alongside his Daybreak Squadron teammates, become mock opponents for the Trailblazer in a demonstration of mechatron combat, and he leaves afterward with an autograph from his hero.[3]
Sometime afterwards, Magnus attends a gathering of the Research Society of Happy Smiles, and was spotted by Ashveil, who was there alongside Kuchiba to investigate the society's ties to the "New Herald of Death". Though initially noncompliant when asked about the Smiles Society, he eventually reveals the existence of a "Happiness Surgery" that all Society members must undergo. In response, Ashveil firmly advises against undergoing the surgery, before letting Magnus go.[4]
Later, he appears alongside the rest of the Daybreak Squadron as actors for a play at Star Rail FEST based on the Xianzhou Luofu. However, things go off the rails when they reveal their identity as Supplicants and challenge the Trailblazer on the spot, though Magnus does so reluctantly. After being defeated, the Squadron retreats to Astral Plaza, where the Nameless eventually confront them with the help of Ashveil and Kuchiba. Despire Ashveil's insistence, Magnus chooses to support his teammates, and assists them with activating the Pom-Pom mechatron and doing battle against the Nameless.[5]
After the battle, Magnus begged his teammates, now driven mad with happiness, to see reason. However, Ashveil deems them too far gone and devours them with his "shadow," despite his protests.[6] After being extracted from the torn scroll by Pearl, a remorseful Magnus, now unable to deny the crimes of his teammates and Fulwish and realizing he is merely an actor in the grand scheme of things, is taken in for interrogation.[7]
In the time afterwards, Magnus would recover from his injuries. As Fulwish's plan to spread the cells of Shuhu causes mass chaos in the city, he participated in crowd evacuations and rescue efforts at Seafeld City. Following Fulwish's defeat, he appeared on Sparxie's livestream to encourage the public to help out as well.[8]
Following the awakening of Oroboros' husk in Planarcadia, Magnus opted to remain behind on Planarcadia, using an IPC mech to help protect stranded civilians who weren't able to evacuate to Astropolis alongside others who remained. The Trailblazer noted and appreciated his growth, and he told them to stay safe outside.[9]

Dialogue
- (First interaction)
- Magnus: Senior, did you catch what I said in the livestream earlier?
I saw it. Nice speech.
- Magnus: Really? Haha. I hope you mean it, senior.
Didn't catch that. What did you say?
- Magnus: Um, nothing much, really. Just told everyone there's still hope and stuff like that.
Sorry, I've got something to take care of.
- Magnus: Alright, I'll catch you later when you're free.
- Magnus: Senior, I could only help with crowd evacuation while you were on the frontline. But after taking part in the relief efforts in Seafeld City, I realized that it was an equally important role.
- Magnus: Those who bask in the spotlight and soak up the camera flashes, they are heroes. Those who support them behind the scenes are also heroes. Duomension City needs both types of heroes.
- Magnus: Blazeweaver and the others had this obsession with becoming "true heroes," but is that really a thing? Playing "fake" heroes won't stand in the way of doing heroic deeds as long as people have "faith" in you.
- Magnus: But I know I can't keep the Daybreak Squadron thing under wraps anymore. Will our old fans still see me as a hero?
Then you'll have to prove it by your actions.
- Magnus: You've got a point. Fame or infamy, I won't run from either.
You're different from those three.
- Magnus: Yeah, Blazeweaver told me that I wasn't cut out to be a warrior from the very beginning. However, this chance to atone for their sins, I got it by being different.
- Magnus: Anyway, I'm glad we managed to resolve this crisis. I'll be rooting for you from here on out, senior.
- (Subsequent interactions)
- Magnus: Even if I'm the only one left in the Daybreak Squadron, I'll keep doing what I can to help everyone.
Let's have a game of Cosmicon Collective!

Let's talk.
- Magnus: Yes, please show me the way, senior!
What do you think of the Daybreak Squadron?
- Magnus: ...
- Magnus: I'll never forget about Blazeweaver, Azurewing, and Dawnlance... They were all good people. It was a shame they didn't see through Fulwish's scheme and ended up making a terrible mistake.
- Magnus: They had paid their price, and now I'll carry on with their spirit and the heroic journey that has eluded them.
- Magnus: No matter what happens, I will always be Cinderborne from the Daybreak Squadron, who carries hopes for all the fans. I don't want to let them down.
What's your future plan?
- Magnus: Fulwish's scheme plunged Duomension City into crisis, but the TV station staff were innocent. Without the director, they still have to keep this place running.
- Magnus: Planarcadia needs heroes right now. The producer of the Mechatron Warrior Series approached me and said they want to film a new season of Daybreak Squadron. They're hoping I can help scout four new members for the coming season.
- Magnus: Maybe someday I can be a senior too, helping the next generation of heroes find their way, just like you did for me.
Ever thought about becoming one of the Nameless?
- Magnus: R-Really? You really think I could become a galactic-level hero like you, senior?
- Magnus: If this talk happened before the chaos, I would have said yes without hesitation. But now? Duomension City needs me. Planarcadia needs me. I can't just leave.
- Magnus: So, I'll leave the cosmos in your capable hands, senior. I'll focus on protecting this planet. A true hero can shine anywhere, right?
Let's catch up another time.
- Magnus: Yeah, we've all got our own missions to complete.
