Planarcadia info

Zhongshan is an NPC who first appeared in the Adventure Mission Bestial Ferocity. She is later located in "World's End" Tavern, Planarcadia.

Profile

Zhongshan initially poses as a member of the Unshackled on the Xianzhou Luofu. She recruits the Trailblazer into their group. During the newcomer trial held by the Three Benevolent Ones — Tonya, Benna, and Heathmann — she helps the Trailblazer unshackle automatons from Belobog, which they manage to convince the Three Benevolent Ones that the lifeform fits all three of their criteria. However, the automatons soon backfire and cause trouble for the three of them. Upon seeing the results, she is highly delighted and entertained.[1]

The next day, Zhongshan sends the Trailblazer a letter informing them of her true identity as a Masked Fool, and that she has already left the Luofu in search of her next adventure.[2]

Later, Zhongshan becomes the drinksmith of "World's End" Tavern and doctor of Fatal Joke in Planarcadia.[3]

Dialogue

(First interaction)
Zhongshan: Hello there, friendly face! I'm Zhongshan, your duty drinksmith, at your service!
Zhongshan: We run a modest business here. If you want a special blend, make sure you have enough credits. It's 50,000 per drink, and tips start at 100,000...
Icon Dialogue Arrow So the end of the world is just inflation.
Zhongshan: My dear customer, your happiness is worth more than gold! I may run a humble business, but joy is priceless, am I right?
Zhongshan: Haha, just kidding! At the "World's End" Tavern, the elation comes free. A good joke is all you need to earn yourself a drink!
Icon Dialogue Arrow That's very generous of you, since you could've just robbed me...
Zhongshan: Hey, come on, I was just joking!
Zhongshan: At the "World's End" Tavern, fun trumps crime any day. A good laugh is worth a glass of fine wine!
Zhongshan: Hey, but now that I take a closer look... you seem kinda familiar...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Well well, if it isn't our generous "Unshackled"!
Zhongshan: By The Laughter! My eyes must've been too clouded by these beer foam to recognize my dear "Unshackling" partner!
Zhongshan: I knew we'd meet again at the tavern! That joke about unshackling last time was truly unforgettable...
Zhongshan: Though this time, it looks like I'm the one waiting to be unshackled. Funny, isn't it?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Yeah, I am the Galactic Baseballer!
Zhongshan: Right! You! The protagonist of Fluffy Across the Blue, the one and only "Baseball Raccoon" famed throughout Planarcadia!
Zhongshan: By The Laughter! You must have tons of hilarious adventure jokes, right? Please, do share some with me!
Zhongshan: Ah, for a free spirit like me who lives for laughter, being stuck on tavern duty might as well be prison time! Cruel fate, to toy with poor Zhongshanshan!
Zhongshan: To get out of the miseries of being a drinksmith, I've only got three options left...
Zhongshan: "One, pay 23,333 million in ransom; two, write 23,333 knee-slapping jokes; three, die."
Icon Dialogue Arrow Pick one.
Zhongshan: Maybe you'd like to foot the bill?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Pick two.
Zhongshan: I knew I could count on you!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Pick three.
Zhongshan: Do I look like I want to die for this?
Zhongshan: Long story short, I'm broke and haven't had my fill of fun, so all I can do is to write jokes!
Zhongshan: But ever since I stopped adventuring, my muse also vanished into thin air! I've only managed to write 23 jokes to this day.
Zhongshan: I need inspiration! Adventure! That passionate, thrilling fun! But the jokes at "World's End" Tavern are just getting more and more boring... Hey, now that's actually funny...

(Subsequent interactions)
Zhongshan: Say, familiar friend, how about trading one joke from your adventure for a fine drink?
Zhongshan: Pay-later works for me. Take a sip of my joke-brewed special, and I promise you'll laugh out loud, then we can chat the night away!

Icon Dialogue Quest I'm here to pick up the Star Rabbit merch...
Zhongshan: Haha, I knew you'd be interested. Attention, dedicated cosmic players of "Star Rabbit!" Behold, a special commemorative gift from our guest to celebrate your gaming passion!
It's obviously a drawing of a furry right hand. It probably belongs to a stuffed toy, or...
Item Trailblazemon's Paw (Right)
Icon Dialogue Arrow Isn't that the conductor?
Icon Dialogue Arrow "Star Rabbit"... Could it be...
Zhongshan: Beats me. That mysterious guest just said that "Star Rabbit" is a game commemorating the Nameless who fought alongside this planet during the Cindearth Age.
Zhongshan: Based on the fragmented accounts left behind by those Nameless long ago, the developers released wispae helpers in the real world to assist everyone in beating the game. A tribute to those trailblazers, in their own way.
Zhongshan: The guest says that a modern-day Nameless is also enjoying "Star Rabbit," which delights and surprises them. They've decided to prepare a special gift set for you.
Zhongshan: What you've received is just the first piece of this gift set. As you complete more Star Rabbit stages, you'll receive additional pieces. If you manage to collect them all, something unexpectedly wonderful might just happen.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Looks like another collection quest!
Zhongshan: Haha. With you showing this much enthusiasm, I bet that guest is over the moon right now.
Zhongshan: Oh, oh! By the way, a guest left you a letter. Feel free to take a look when you get a chance. I'll go ahead and get back to what I was doing!
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...all this sneaking around and hiding stuff, it's really killing the vibe.
Zhongshan: Our guest here is a bit on the shy side. But when the time's right, they'll definitely want to meet you in person.
Zhongshan: Oh, oh! By the way, a guest left you a letter. Feel free to take a look when you get a chance. I'll go ahead and get back to what I was doing!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Is this commemorative card set worth anything of value?
Zhongshan: I'm not sure. But storing personal items with the drinksmith isn't free... Until they pick up their belongings, a customer has to pay the World's End Tavern 3,000 credits and one original joke each day. That's quite a steep price.
Zhongshan: Given their dedication, even if "it's the thought that counts," you can surely spin a good story and sell this commemorative card set for a hefty price.
Zhongshan: Anyway, there's a letter here left by a guest. You can take your time reading it. I'll get back to my own work now.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Didn't they say this person left a letter or something?
Zhongshan: Yep! Right here. Take your time reading it. I'll get back to my own work now.
Letter from Unknown Moonlull

Dear (Trailblazer), whom I've never met: Words can't express how much I hope this letter reaches you.

I had thought of so many ornate expressions, but when I actually sat down to write the letter, I was so emotional that I couldn't write a single word.

You may have noticed that the design of Star Rabbit has deep historical connections with the Nameless. The Star Rabbit, 108 Nameless, and Their Moonlull Companions was a legendary tale I often heard and read in my childhood. As times have changed, today's children have lost the enthusiasm we once had for long-form narratives. So, during the design process of Star Rabbit, we decided not to include a main storyline, but rather to convey fragmented character information through the deployment of wispae after careful consideration. However, since you yourself are a Nameless, I decided to write this letter to share some stories that might interest you.

Actually, The Star Rabbit, 108 Nameless and Their Moonlull Companions is the origin story of us moonlull people. To put it simply, during the Cindearth Age, a black divine rabbit descended from the star rail in the night sky and generously shared celestial wisdom with the people of this planet, who led 108 Nameless to fight alongside them against terrifying enemies from beyond the sky. It was a long and cruel battle, and facing endless waves of enemies, both the 108 Nameless and people on this planet suffered devastating casualties... To ensure the survival of their fighting spirit, the survivors created a new combat imagenae in the image of the black divine rabbit, and that's how we, the moonlull people, came to be.

Oh, right... You might be wondering about the gift I enclosed with this letter: Rest assured, that's the legendary countenance of our ancestor, the black divine rabbit, as depicted in the tales of us moonlull folks. You are one of the Nameless, so I'm certain you must know our great progenitor. I hope that one day, I can represent the moonlull people and have the honor of an audience with our progenitor! (Not now though, I'm absolutely not ready yet... I'm just humbly expressing this presumptuous wish of mine. In any case, please don't tell the great progenitor about this yet... pretty please!)

Zhongshan: Oh, hey there! Long time no see, (Trailblazer).
Zhongshan: Let's get down to business. Here!
This time, it's a card featuring a "left foot."
Item Trailblazemon's Round Foot (Left)
Zhongshan: Like I said in my message, the person who dropped off the merch left in a huge hurry. They didn't say a single word, almost like their mind was elsewhere... I hope everything's okay with the Star Rabbit crew. Or maybe they're just super busy?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Being busy is great! No need to socialize!
Zhongshan: Hah! Mystery solved! So that's why the Nameless stay anonymous. It's not about being humble, you're all just socially anxious!
Zhongshan: Ahem, just kidding! I don't know what they wrote in their last letter, but if it was a bit much for you, try to cut them some slack. They are moonlulls, after all.
Zhongshan: It's totally normal for them to admire the Nameless.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Something sounds a little fishy.
Zhongshan: Right? You've got a bad feeling, too?
Icon Dialogue Arrow You're probably just overthinking it.
Zhongshan: Really? My intuition is usually spot on, you know.
Zhongshan: But I don't have any way to contact them, so I guess we'll never know what actually happened.
Zhongshan: Since you're in the dark too, I guess the truth will just have to wait. Anyway, I've got to get back to work. I'd be a lot happier if you could order a drink, though.

Icon Dialogue Quest I'm here to pick up the Star Rabbit merch...
Zhongshan: Ah, you're right on schedule, (Trailblazer).
Zhongshan: As usual, the item first...
This time, it's a card featuring a "left hand."
Item Trailblazemon's Paw (Left)
Zhongshan: So, have you heard any of the rumors about "Star Rabbit"?
Icon Dialogue Arrow No.
Icon Dialogue Arrow What about it?
Zhongshan: You know that lawyer Umbralle? The imagenae with an umbrella head? I met him for drinks after work once, and he told me while half-drunk that "Star Rabbit" might be reaching the end of its run.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Wait, it's shutting down?
Zhongshan: Who knows? It's just a rumor. But then again...
Icon Dialogue Arrow You actually believe that stuff?
Zhongshan: Yeah, usually I wouldn't. But...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Wait, he can actually drink?
Zhongshan: He just pours the drink right down his collar. Those faceless imagenae always have some weird quirks. Anyway, back to the point...
Zhongshan: I mentioned in my text that I'd chatted with the person who sent you those two cards, right?
Zhongshan: She seems to be a "Star Rabbit" staff, but there's this... air of impatience about her. Like she's actually hoping the game stops running soon.
Zhongshan: You remember me saying I was worried something had gone wrong with "Star Rabbit," right?
Icon Dialogue Arrow You want me to go save it?
Zhongshan: It's just a game, right? Everything has its time. You can't force something to live forever.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Even so, I can't do anything for it either.
Zhongshan: I suppose so. Game or not, everything runs its course eventually.
Zhongshan: "Star Rabbit" is a game that uses a lot of wispae. That means it's constantly draining Wishpower.
Zhongshan: You know how special Wishpower is here in Arcadia. If keeping the game running means imagenae are whittling away their own lives... then the whole thing stops being fun.
Zhongshan: But let's say that's true, and if you're willing to spend your own Wishpower... maybe a miraculous resurrection could happen. Who knows?

Icon Dialogue Arrow Any recommendations?
Zhongshan: Disclaimer! We strictly prohibit minors from drinking alcohol. If you're not grown up yet, come back when you are...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't worry, I'm of legal age.
Zhongshan: Alright then, just had to ask, protocol and all.
Zhongshan: Besides, this is my tavern, and when it comes to what drinks my customers should have, they ought to listen to my recommendations as the proprietor.
Zhongshan: For old times' sake, I'll buy you a drink, but you'll have to answer my questions. I'll pick for you. I promise I'm the drinksmith who knows you best.
Zhongshan: First question: What brings you to "World's End" Tavern? Are you here for some funsies, looking for a thrill, or... let me think... just want to grab a drink?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Coming to the Fool's tavern is all about having fun!
Zhongshan: Oh? Speaking of fun, what's your poison? Pretending to drink till your mouth short-circuits, or are you in the mood for something more... cultured?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Pretending to drink alcohol, but it's actually just soda.
Zhongshan: Then I recommend this "Bread Soda".
Item Jim Roger Bread Soda
Zhongshan: Looks like booze, smells like booze, tastes like booze, but it's not actually booze. Then again, that's pretty normal for the Fool's tavern.
Zhongshan: Well, well, congratulations! You've successfully put a kid's joy in a grown-up's cup.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Pop, crackle and snap in your mouth, give me some.
Zhongshan: Then I recommend this "Pika White Grape Soda."
Item Pika White Grape Soda
Zhongshan: Keep it in your mouth for a guaranteed pop and crackle! See that spring in the cup? That's from our last Intellitron customer who had a short circuit.
Zhongshan: Here you go, but be careful, because it'll go all "fizz-crackle" when you drink it. Just try not to blow bubbles at other people, alright?
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'll have whatever they're having in the movies...
Zhongshan: Don't worry, we've got all those stereotypes covered. How about a "Capital of Passion"?
Curio The Pinkest Collision
Zhongshan: After a glass of "Capital of Passion," even if you're just spacing out here, you'll look incredibly delicate and weary...
Zhongshan: "Sometimes if you love someone, you have to treat them like a stranger."
Zhongshan: Ouch, it hurts so bad... If you wanna feel this much pain, try drinking "Capital of Passion".
Icon Dialogue Arrow How thrilling could looking for thrills really be?
Zhongshan: Looking for thrills, huh... just how much excitement can you handle?
Icon Dialogue Arrow The kind that messes with your gut and makes you spew from both ends.
Zhongshan: Then I'll just recommend you the "Vomit Inducing Agent."
Item Vomit Inducing Agent
Zhongshan: Although it's not on the menu, since you asked so sincerely... I'll graciously recommend it to you.
Zhongshan: Broadly speaking, it contains liquid and drinking it won't kill you, so I guess you could technically call it a beverage.
Zhongshan: After you drink it, don't forget to write down your thoughts. I'll use them as reference.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Living on the edge, but not ready to kick the bucket.
Zhongshan: Someone once gave me a recipe called "Thalan Toxi-Flame," it should do exactly what you're looking for.
Curio Thalan Toxi-Flame
Zhongshan: They say that—I mean, I've never tried it myself, but they say that drinking it feels like swallowing ignited steel wool... absolutely excruciating.
Zhongshan: If you're lucky enough to survive, you must be blessed by the heavens.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did it feel like getting hit by a bullet?
Zhongshan: Yeah, a cowboy came by earlier and recommended us a recipe: "Asdana's White Oak".
Item Asdana's White Oak
Zhongshan: One bite, and it feels like getting shot in the head. Your skull buzzing, memory short-circuiting, and you'll probably end up with a nosebleed.
Zhongshan: Also, you little glutton, be careful not to swallow the "garnish" in your cup too.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Got anything that'll make me ascend to godhood after drinking it?
Zhongshan: I'm not sure if this counts as exciting, but you could try: "Ambrosia (Imitation)."
Grove, Wherefore Are the Wise Silent Dew of Divine Blood
Zhongshan: Legend has it that the first mortal to taste the divine nectar became a God. In the moment they swallowed, they saw the rules of the world transform into threads at their fingertips, ready to be pulled and tugged at their whim...
Zhongshan: Too bad I only have replicas here. Might not give you quite the same kick when you drink it.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm just getting a drink, keep it simple...
Zhongshan: Hey, don't treat me like some fun lovin' goofball who's just here for laughs. No worries, I'll help you out. Got any specific preferences for flavor?
Icon Dialogue Arrow As long as it has flavor, just don't make it too weird.
Zhongshan: Here, take this mineral water.
Item Scalegorge Spring Water
Zhongshan: Your choice is so safe, so safe that... even the "World's End" Tavern has to resort to their last measure.
Zhongshan: Unless you've got some kind of mental seal in your consciousness, our mineral water should be an absolutely foolproof choice!
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...Don't you have anything more traditional?
Zhongshan: Yes indeed, this is the Amber Huadiao Wine I brought back from my last trip to Xianzhou.
Item Amber Huadiao Wine
Zhongshan: While ordering yellow wine at a trendy tavern might not be a tradition, I assure you that this sip of cultural heritage is as traditional as it gets.
Zhongshan: If you need it, I've got a plate of fennel seeds here that you can use as well.
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...Got anything a bit more modest?
Zhongshan: Nothing's more vanilla than "ordering a glass of goat milk at a bar." This is steamed puffergoat milk.
Item Steamed Puffergoat Milk
Zhongshan: Though you're no cowboy, you ordered goat milk at the tavern. Why not get some hard liquor? Because hard liquor's bad for your health.
Zhongshan: Amidst all the debauchery at the tavern, you resolutely chose to stay healthy... you... you're absolutely mad!
Zhongshanshan might just be... the drinksmith who understands you the least! But who cares? Let's drink to that!
(A sip of exquisite humor dissolves in my mouth, turning into laughter. I feel a touch of Elation.)
Icon Dialogue Exit Oh cripes, I'm underage.
Zhongshan: Turn left after exiting the tavern, there's a vending machine with all kinds of sweet sodas inside.
Icon Dialogue Talk I'm underage. Let's just chat.
Zhongshan: By The Laughter, since I became a drinksmith, I rarely get to talk to someone who's actually sober! So, what do you want to talk about?
Icon Dialogue Talk About how you became a drinksmith...
Zhongshan: Wanna hear the story of how fate shackled me? Alright, let me entertain you with that one.
Zhongshan: Our tavern has always run on rotation. When the last drinksmith, Bragi, left, the tavern gathered all the Masked Fools across the cosmos to draw lots. Whoever drew the longest stick got stuck behind the counter.
Zhongshan: I had just run out of the Xianzhou with my arms full of bags and packages, so when it came time to draw, I just grabbed one and stuffed it away without looking.
Zhongshan: That stick was just a tiny twig, barely the length of my index finger. There's no way in hell it was the longest one!
Zhongshan: But when it was my turn to show it, I just couldn't find it no matter what! After rummaging around forever, guess what I finally pulled out of my bag?
Zhongshan: ——A seven-inch long Xianzhou chopstick!
Zhongshan: You probably think, "logically speaking," this shouldn't count, right? I feel the same way! But logic doesn't matter here in the tavern. The result was "funny" enough, so, here I am, stuck with the job eternally~
Icon Dialogue Talk Why don't you like being a drinksmith?
Zhongshan: Everyone has their own path to Elation. In a nutshell, I'm an "Excursion-style" Masked Fool.
Zhongshan: Truth be told, before I ever put on the mask, I was just another Average Joe from some backwater planet. And I'm not just running my mouth here, that's how it is for most folks out there. We're not the stars of the show, but hey, who needs fun when you're busy just getting by?
Zhongshan: When I was young, I was too busy maturing. Growing up, I was too busy studying. Then I got even older and got busy job hunting. Not only did I miss out on all the fun, but when I look back now... whoa! I'd never even left my own little planet!
Zhongshan: It wasn't until the IPC Marketing Development Department graced us with their presence that I realized just how vast the outside world was. It wasn't until their communicators brought the galaxy's entertainment to our tiny speck of a planet that I saw how many interesting stufff was beyond life's trivialities.
Zhongshan: So much to enjoy, so much to see! What's stopping me? That's how I, Zhongshanshan, snuck aboard disguised as an IPC employee and started my adventure!
Icon Dialogue Arrow You gave up everything from your past.
Zhongshan: Oh boy, have you ever heard that saying? "Pursue happiness at any cost!"
Icon Dialogue Arrow But being a drinksmith is fun too.
Zhongshan: By The Laughter, no one understands joy better than you!
Zhongshan: I don't actually hate being a drinksmith. I just hate being a drinksmith FOREVER.
Zhongshan: Because my disguise was seen through in just three days, I ended up making special drinks for the Marketing Development Department for free for years!
Icon Dialogue Talk Jokes at the "World's End" Tavern...
Zhongshan: Psst, let me tell you a secret: It's no longer what it used to be! Look around, all you see nowadays are either drunk Fools or IPC members pretending to be sober.
Zhongshan: Why is the Masked Fool drunk? Because of boredom, sheer boredom! Back when we had IPC's tech, life was pretty sweet. Just sit in the tavern, and we could witness all the fun stuff across the universe, rolling on the floor laughing every single day.
Zhongshan: As time dragged on, even the funniest things got boring, and genuine laughs became harder to find. So they started getting merry, drinking wine brewed from stale jokes, hoping to discover more exciting punch lines in their drunken haze.
Zhongshan: And then all that mess came spewing out of their stomachs! Get this, here's the new joke they were telling while hugging the toilet and throwing up yesterday:
Zhongshan: "I kicked a limping guy's uninjured right leg this morning!" "Why would you do that?" "Because I just kicked his left leg yesterday!"
Zhongshan: After they finished puking, the whole tavern burst into laughter, but what happened after the laughter died down?
Icon Dialogue Arrow They flushed everything down the toilet.
Zhongshan: Haha, right. That one-liner got flushed down the toilet where it belongs!
Zhongshan: If you have to ask, I say we gotta get out there, dive into the crowd, do some stuff, stir up some action, take some risks, and have a blast together. Now that's what I call the real fun!
Zhongshan: As for those IPC workers, oh boy, they're even more pitiful. They only appreciate pure realism jokes. All you gotta do is shout: "Big tech company! Full benefits! Weekends off and no overtime!"
Zhongshan: Only then can they laugh heartily from the bottom of their hearts and feel assured to get drunk and meet Aha.
Icon Dialogue Talk I heard people can find Aha here?
Zhongshan: With so many Masked Fools in the tavern, who's to say The Laughter isn't among them?
Zhongshan: Besides, whether we meet Aha or not won't stop us from having fun. After all, whether we're sipping fine wine or going on adventures, we're here for some laughs and sweet moments.
Zhongshan: If you really wanna see him [sic] in person, well, take a left at the door and sign up for the Phantasmoon Games. Oh wait, you've already signed up, haha.
Icon Dialogue Exit Let's catch up another time.
Zhongshan: No problem, friend! Next time, bring your adventure jokes to trade for a special drink! Hope I can finish writing those punch lines soon...
