Profile

Helios is a mysterious Etheric entity that is tied to the Sun as a concept. When manifested, it can change the environment of the Hollow it inhabits, though this may have been a result of it fusing with Thaumiel temporarily, rather than something Helios can do on its own. It was symbiotically linked to Phaethon and utilizes a golden colored Ether. Following the events of About Past Treatment, Helios granted Phaethon a portion of its own power, which manifests as an Etheric Other known as Pyrois - a non independent entity that both Helios and Phaethon can operate through. Often times Pyrois's name is used in place of Helios when it is being discussed or talked to.

Helios is notably cocky and self-assured in its abilities, and harbors resentment toward Phaethon over its prolonged imprisonment and suppression at Helios Academy. Although it is quite talkative when speaking directly to Phaethon, it is much less verbose when communicating through Pyrois, often refusing to answer questions.

History

During their time at Helios Academy, Helios manifested when Phaethon lost control of their power during a test of their ocular implants, transforming them into a monster and allowing them to break free from the chamber's containment. The incident seemingly resulted in the death of Serpico.^[3] With the aid of Eldreda Sunbringer, Carole Arna suppressed Helios and reverted Phaethon to normal, ensuring that their power would no longer cause problems.^[4]

During the events at Waifei Peninsula, Ether began accumulating within Phaethon's body while they explored Lemnian Hollow, causing anomalies in their eye implants. When Phaethon pursued Remielle Dan, they came into contact with Thaumiel, resulting in an Ether imbalance that transformed them into the Scorched Horizon. Although the Scorched Horizon was defeated by Billy, Cissia, and Promeia, Helios emerged using Phaethon's body as a host for its physical form. It defeated the trio and nearly killed Promeia before Remielle intervened, stabilizing Phaethon's Ether and suppressing Helios once again.^[5]

Phaethon later traveled to Roscaelifer to receive treatment. During the process, they experienced visions of Helios killing those close to them before Helios directly confronted them about its imprisonment in the experimental chamber. The two clashed in a battle of wills, with Phaethon ultimately emerging victorious. As a show of begrudging respect, Helios agreed to lend Phaethon a portion of its power in the form of the Etheric Other Pyrois.^[4]

With the aid of Remielle, Phaethon used Pyrois to banish Bashmu. However, they struggled to defeat it, prompting Helios to take control of their power and banish Bashmu itself.^[6]

Trivia

• Back in the Eridu Era, Professor Arche and "Sunbringer" ran an experiment known as "Project Sunseeker" that Remielle and Vike participated in. Remielle states that Helios was the "cause" tied to her, and it's the "effect" tied to Phaethon, which may allude that Helios is related to Project Sunseeker.^[7]

Etymology

• Helios is the Greek God and Personification of the Sun, said to ride the four white horse drawn chariot to rise the sun every morning. He is also known by the epithet Phaethon ("the shining").
