Thaumiel

Last updated 2026-08-28

Thaumiel is a weapon in Zenless Zone Zero. It is a Void Hunter Weapon wielded by Remielle Dan.

Overview

In its sealed form, it is briefly depicted as being shielded by two white wings, with a long blade positioned at its center, all radiating a bright white glow. Thaumiel's true form is a pair of four mechanical, razor-sharp wings with the bottom half being smaller with four mechanical feathers, and the top half being bigger with boosters in each of the wings that function similarly to a jetpack, while also containing two swords in the metacarpus of the larger wings.

The Karma Core sealed within Thaumiel holds the power to halt the flow of time, thus granting Remielle the power of controlling temporal patterns at any duration.[1] Due to partially fusing with the Karma Core, Remielle can replicate a similar effect on a smaller scale without Thaumiel to reduce Ether activity in both people and monsters to nigh zero, effectively petrifying them. This power manifests as a feather that rests upon those affected, causing them to become pale white in colour.[1][2]

History

Thaumiel is the personal weapon of Remielle Dan, one of the first generation Void Hunters. She wielded it as her signature weapon, most notably using it to push back the Dark Wall by thirty-seven kilometers. At some point, however, Thaumiel was discarded by Remielle for unknown reasons. It was later hidden within a colorless region of the Hollow, sealed inside a white container, which can be only unlocked by a special item like the Flint Porcelloy W-Engine as a "key."

In recent times, TOPS launched a search for the weapon. The area containing it was eventually discovered by Phaethon, Billy, Cissia, and Promeia. While in a trance, Phaethon approached the container and placed their hand upon it, triggering its release. Upon being freed, Thaumiel merged with Phaethon's body, transforming them into a powerful Ethereal known as the Scorched Horizon.

Although Billy, Cissia, and Promeia attempted to subdue them, they were quickly overwhelmed, and Promeia was nearly killed when Phaethon emerges from the Scorched Horizon's remains in their Ethereal-esque form. However, Remielle ultimately arrived in time to intervene, reverting Phaethon to normal by seemingly extracting Thaumiel from their body and reclaiming it.[3]

Trivia

Etymology

  • "Thaumiel" originates from the Qliphoth in Jewish mysticism. The name is commonly interpreted as "Twin Gods" or "Twins of God," derived from the "ta'om" (Hebrew: תאום "twin"), and is associated with duality and opposition.
    • This is likely a nod to Remielle Dan's two outfits which contrast with each other.
