Withered Domain
Last updated 2025-09-23
Withered Domain is a game mode accessed through the Hollow Zero menu. Prior to Version 1.4, it was simply referred to as Hollow Zero.
It is unlocked once the player has reached Inter-Knot Level 20 and completed the Qualification Assessment Commission, as part of Phaethon's Story Chapter: The Zero Zone.
Overview
Withered Domain features Array Mode gameplay, where the player will traverse a board of TV screens, encountering various Hollow Events.
Stages will feature a maximum of 3 floors, with a Frontline Supply Outpost resting area between each floor. The goal is to traverse each floor by defeating the Gatekeeper, eventually culminating in a face-off against a boss-level enemy on the final floor.
Upon selecting a stage, the player will need to designate one Agent as their "Leader", and up to two other Agents as "Squad Members". The Leader will commence exploration by themselves, with the two other Agents only being recruitable after finding Call For Support event tiles, or by visiting a Frontline Supply Outpost resting area. The player can also select one Bangboo within the party-setup menu, who will join the Leader in combat from the get-go.
- Upon reaching Inter-Knot Level 30 and completing Old Capital Metro: Frontline, a 4th Agent can be added as recruitable backup.
- At Inter-Knot Level 40 and after completion of Old Capital Metro: Heartland, a further 5th Agent slot will be added.
- A final 6th Agent slot will unlock once the player has completed Old Capital Metro: Core, Construction Ruins: Core, and Abandoned Skyscraper: Core.
Despite there being a total of 6 Agent slots, the player's party will still be limited to the game's maximum amount of 3 Agents, with 1 being the Leader and then 2 recruited Agents; The extra slots allow greater flexibility in team-building during each run of Withered Domain.
Furthermore, while inside the Array, every time the player moves to a different tile, they will accumulate 10 Pressure, with the exception of special board tiles like Safety Zones, which remove Pressure, or Disconnections, which add even more Pressure. Once Pressure reaches 100, a random Corruption will be inflicted and the current Pressure will be cleared. The squad can sustain up to five Corruptions at a time, which have various negative and positive effects on combat and exploration. The fifth consecutive Corruption will typically be related to the current Zone's final boss.
Corruptions can be removed be encountering certain NPCs like the Masked Scholar in the Old Capital Metro stages, or they can be removed by special event tiles such as the Purification Room or the Closed Gate - Corruption.
