Donskoy

Donskoy (Russian: Донской Donskoy) is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the World Quest A Great Heart Fettered by Slender Chains and its following quests.

Profile

Donskoy was once a male Snegovik that was transformed into a snow giant by Pavlina using the Eitr, an ancient forbidden artifact from Hyperborea capable of altering life.^[1][2]

He once met a human girl, with whom he likely shared a romantic relationship: the two spent time together at a house in Everfrozen Earth, where they danced and he sang for her.^[3]

Donskoy served as the Belyi Tsar's guard during his campaign against the Abyss following the Cataclysm. In the fighting he unleashed the power Pavlina granted him, which transformed him into a towering giant and left his spirit damaged.^[4] Pavlina decided he had to recuperate so that he would not lose control of his enhanced powers, and forbade the girl from seeing him, claiming that a visit would endanger his life.^[3] She told Donskoy that his power was slipping beyond his control and that he would dissolve "into snow foam amidst the blizzard" unless she restrained him. With that, she bound him in four chains at Everfrozen Earth, where he remained until the Traveler and Paimon found him.^[5]

The Traveler and Paimon destroyed the chains and freed him, aided by a manifestation of the girl he had known. Once released, he walked off into the distance.^[3]

When the two encountered him again, it became clear that he was trying to reach an island with a lighthouse in the north of Everfrozen Earth. He had once promised the girl he would meet her there, and meant to return whether or not she was still waiting. They helped him by destroying the new chains that had appeared and watched him light the lighthouse lamp with a warm energy he carried within him.^[5] After passing on that energy, he shared a final moment with the girl's apparition before wandering off into the sea, never to be seen again.^[6]

• Dmitry Donskoy (Russian: Дмитрий Донской Dmitriy Donskoy) was Russian knyaz who ruled from 1359 to 1389. He is famous for his victory over the Golden Horde in the Battle of Kulikovo.
