Seamus Pegg
Last updated 2026-06-10
Seamus Pegg, also known as the Cardinal of Daybreak,[5] is an open-world NPC located in Favonius Cathedral, Mondstadt City, Starfell Valley, Mondstadt after completing Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon.
He is the Seneschal of the Church of Favonius, one of the leaders of Mondstadt. He is the father of Jean and Barbara.[4][6] and first appeared in the Manga.
Location
Profile
Once a famous adventurer throughout Teyvat, Seamus encountered a wandering Varka and became intrigued by his stories — particularly those related to Frederica Gunnhildr — and convinced the man to return home under the pretense of escorting him.[7] There, Seamus started anew with the Church of Favonius and later rose to the position of Seneschal. He and Frederica fell in love, married, and had two daughters, Jean and Barbara. However, the two eventually separated and Barbara stayed with him.[4]
Jean is said to take after Seamus quite a bit, particularly where Varka is concerned. Both of them handle all administrative tasks virtually on their own because Varka dislikes doing them,[8] and Seamus drily chides Varka for his antics, such as asking which of the Four Winds he should refer to himself as[9] and going for drinks after getting grounded by Jean and escaping.[10]
Because Seamus joined Varka's expedition to face the Abyssal calamity threatening northern Teyvat, his duties and responsibilities have been entrusted to Cardinal Calvin.[6] The calamity which Varka foresaw, which ended up being Nod-Krai's Wild Hunt threat, was curbed following Rerir's defeat during Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act IV - An Elegy for Faded Moonlight. Shortly afterward, Seamus left the expedition for "private matters,"[11] leaving his administrative responsibilities at Favonius Keep to Anselm.[8]

Story
History
Seamus hails from Nod-Krai. Because he did not "have anyone left to miss" there, he left his homeland and became a famous adventurer. He eventually encountered Varka in a foreign land, who was wandering Teyvat to find his reason for becoming a knight. After listening to Varka pine for his homeland and recount stories of his old companions, Seamus' response causes Varka to realize that protecting those he cared about was reason enough. The simplicity of that revelation, however, causes him to hesitate, so Seamus gives him the excuse of escorting him to Mondstadt — but lets slip that he was curious specifically about Frederica.[7]
Frederica fell in love with him, and they married and had two daughters. Over time, a rift formed in their relationship and they divorced; Frederica took custody of Jean while Barbara went with Seamus, and this separation has created some awkwardness in Jean and Barbara's relationship.[4] Despite their separation, Seamus still kept Gunnhildr's Legacy, Frederica's set of clothes as the Alder Knight, in his possession.[12]
Around twenty years after coming to Mondstadt,[Note 1] Seamus was present when Eroch — jealous and resentful of Varka's position as Grand Master — began colluding with Dottore. While Eroch's plot was ultimately thwarted, the damage had been done; he awoke Ursa the Drake from its slumber, leading to the death of Varka's longtime friend Crepus and the resignation of his son Diluc,[13] while Dottore took the glory of slaying Ursa for himself. This put Mondstadt at a diplomatic disadvantage with the Fatui for the next several years, something which Seamus deeply regretted.[14]
Manga
Seamus appears in Chapter 1, attending the Ludi Harpastum festivities at Diluc Manor. When Dottore and Krupp demand an audience with him, Seamus shows himself. The three of them, as well as Diluc and Kaeya, head to the Dawn Winery's meeting room to talk about the Fatui's desire to recruit people from Mondstadt.[14]
Although unwilling to give into the Fatui's demands, Seamus was unable to find a way to tip negotiations in Mondstadt's favor. While deliberating on their next move, Dottore lost interest in Mondstadt after finding another object of greater interest — Diluc's Delusion — and ordered his diplomats to withdraw. Seamus, after learning that Dottore had left first, gets drunk and excitedly tells Kaeya the news.[15]
In-Game
By the time the Traveler arrives in Mondstadt, Seamus already left Mondstadt with the rest of the expeditionary force (sans Godwin). This complicates matters when they and Venti attempt to borrow the Holy Lyre der Himmel and cannot obtain a signed document from the Seneschal, one of the items needed to gain permission from the Church of Favonius.[16]
During the event Of Ballads and Brews, Varka sends a letter to the Knights of Favonius with a status update, reassuring that all members of the expedition are alive and accounted for.[17] Within the expeditionary force, Seamus handled all the administrative work, a habit which Anselm says Jean picked up from her father.[8]
Following the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act IV - An Elegy for Faded Moonlight, Seamus is en route to Mondstadt along with parts of the Fifth Company. He is returning due to "private matters"[11] which, based on Helmut and Arved's exchange, potentially relates to Frederica, who earlier returned to defend Dornman Port.[18] In Rosaria's next birthday letter, Seamus was due to return "soon," so the Church of Favonius clergy were cleaning in preparation for his return.[19] He'd already arrived home by the time of Jean's birthday. For that particular day, he and Barbara used the girls' kitchen to start up a surprise birthday dinner while she was briefly out to report for work. Seamus personally made pizza.[20]
Idle Quotes
May the Anemo Archon protect you...
- "May the Anemo Archon protect you on your path, my friend!"
Dialogue
- (Available after completing Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon)[verification needed]
- Seamus Pegg: May the Anemo Archon bless you. What brings you to the Cathedral today?
Uh, you are...
- Seamus Pegg: I'm Seamus Pegg, Seneschal of the Church of Favonius.
- Seamus Pegg: If there's anything you need to confess or if you need help with, I'm always here to listen.
I don't think I've seen you before...
- Seamus Pegg: That is indeed so. I was on Grand Master Varka's expedition.
- Seamus Pegg: It was only recently, as the conflict in Nod-Krai drew to a close, that I was finally able to return to Mondstadt.
- Seamus Pegg: All these years, the Church of Favonius has continued to function only through the diligence of our priests and sisters. Therefore, I intend to share as much of the load as I can from now on, so that everyone can rest more.
So you are Jean and Barbara's...
- Seamus Pegg: Yes, Jean and Deaconess Barbara are my daughters.
- Seamus Pegg: May the Anemo Archon forgive my negligence. As their father, I should have shouldered more responsibility for them.
- Seamus Pegg: But our Deaconess is always so incredibly diligent that she won't even let me help her out. And Jean... her temperament is perhaps too much like her mother's.
- Seamus Pegg: So... All I can do is pray to the Anemo Archon. May His grace lighten their burdens, if only by a little.
See you.
- Seamus Pegg: May the Anemo Archon bless you.

Trivia
- Seamus has a dialogue in Varka's Talent flavor text; he replies to Varka in Northwind Avatar and is likely also the person who reprimands Varka in Windbound Execution.
- A seneschal is a senior position filled by a court appointment within a royal, ducal, or noble household during the Middle Ages and early Modern period — historically a steward or majordomo of a medieval great house. In addition, that role takes part of an administrative officer, typically referring to a cathedral official or manager responsible for supervising the daily domestic affairs, properties, and ceremonial arrangements of a bishop's residence.
- Seamus Pegg was originally named "Seamus" in the manga and "Seamus Pegg" in the Closed Beta Test versions of Jean and Barbara's character stories. For Version 1.0, he was renamed to "Simon Page," but Version 1.4 reverted to "Seamus Pegg."
- In Korean, he was renamed accordingly from 시몬 페이지 Simon Peiji to 시무스・페그 Simuseu Pegeu,[5][4] but this change was not reflected in Barbara's Hangout Event.[6]
- His name remained unchanged in Chinese (西蒙・佩奇 Xīméng Pèiqí), Japanese (サイモン・ペッチ Saimon Pecchi), and French (Seamus Page). However, in the Japanese version of Barbara's Hangout Event, his surname was incorrectly localized as ペイジ Peiji.[6]
Etymology
- Séamus, anglicized as Seamus, is the Irish version of James, which is an English name ultimately derived from Jacob (Hebrew: יַעֲקֹב Yaʿaqōḇ).
- Incidentally, both James/Seamus and Simon (Seamus' short-lived rename) were each the given names of two of Jesus' Twelve Apostles.
Notes
- ↑ Given that Crepus died on Diluc's 18th birthday, if Diluc and Jean are assumed to be around the same age, Seamus must have come to Mondstadt either before Diluc was born or while Diluc was still young.
