Teyvat
Last updated 2026-09-08
In the distant past, the Archons granted mortals unique elemental abilities. With the help of such powers, people formed a bountiful homeland out of the wilderness. However, 500 years ago, the collapse of an ancient civilization turned the universe upside down...
Though the calamity the world suffered has ceased, peace has yet to be restored.
Teyvat is a world and continent in Genshin Impact. It is located on the edge of a spiral arm of an unnamed galaxy in the sea of stars.[2] It has one large satellite, named the Frost Moon, as well as two former such satellites: the Eternal Moon and Iridescent Moon.
See the Teyvat Interactive Map for the locations of important spots, items, and enemies on the map.
Teyvat is split into seven primary nations that correspond to an Element, Archon Quest and Archon, along with several regions such as Nod-Krai, Khaenri'ah and Celestia.

Other Regions
Nod-Krai
Nod-Krai is an autonomous region located in the southernmost part of Snezhnaya, on the edge of Teyvat. It is an archipelago formed from remnant material used in the creation of the Three Moons.[5] According to Liben, people from all over Teyvat gather here and "those not in the know would think that opportunities to get rich are everywhere there," leading to Nod-Krai gaining the reputation of being an "Elysium."
Temple of Space
The Temple of Space, also known as Segment-Domain Tau, was constructed by Asmoday, the Ruler of Space, to serve as an exhibition hall with records of fallen civilizations such as Hyperborea, Lang-Gan, Delphi Pytho, Ochkanatlan, Remuria, Arcadia, and so on. However, after her departure, the other Shades also put whatever they thought interesting in the exhibition halls. The temple was once situated at the Old Sanatorium Site but was lifted into the sky following a disaster.
Khaenri'ah
Khaenri'ah was an ancient civilization that was destroyed 500 years ago with the fall of the Eclipse Dynasty in an event known as the Cataclysm. Little is known about the country besides the fact that it was an underground civilization located deep below Sumeru that relied on its form of life-giving alchemy, the Art of Khemia, to survive.
Celestia
Celestia is a floating island in the sky where the gods are said to reside. Precisely, it is located directly above Mt. Mingyuan. The people of Teyvat believe that mortals chosen to ascend to godhood will join the pantheon in Celestia.
Dark Sea
The Dark Sea is a collective term for the regions beyond the continent of Teyvat. It is believed that gods who were defeated in the Archon War and refused to live under the new order of The Seven fled to the Dark Sea.
Historical Regions
The following regions existed in Teyvat at one point but were eventually destroyed, abandoned, or integrated into another region.
The Old World
The world belonged to the dragons. The Seven Sovereigns under Nibelung divided the world into territories and ruled over them.
Natlantea
Natlantea was a main territory under the Pyro Dragon Xiuhcoatl. The main hub of power of Natlantea was the Sacred City of Tollan, and Xiuhcoatl created the Thirteen Sovereign Lords to govern the rest of Natlantea. After the Heavenly Principles arrived and established the unified civilization, the dragons were defeated, and Natlantea became the settlement of humans. However, the War of Funerary Flame saw the dragons' resurgence, retook the land, and devoured most of the Angels. Humans were ruled over by the dragons and had lost most of their wisdom, turning to savagery. The end of Natlantea was when Xbalanque defeated Xiuhcoatl, and received the guidance from the Ruler of Death to establish the rules of the nation known as Natlan.
Nephilheim
Nephilheim was the remnant of a fourth moon that failed to materialize.[5] After the Heavenly Principles arrived and established the unified civilization, humans settled in Nephilheim and made rituals to the Three Moons, leading to the creation of Moon Wheel.[6] After the War of Funerary Flame, the Frost Moon Goddess Canon survived and led the surviving Hyperborean humans to Hiisi Island, and the Frostmoon Scions were established.[7] At unknown point, Nephilheim became later known as Nod-Krai, and was under Snezhnaya's authority as an autonomous region.
Unified Civilization
When the Heavenly Principles descended upon Teyvat, they defeated the dragons and established a large, human unified civilization. However, there appeared to be multiple regions at this time, under the guidance of multiple Angels:
Arcadia
Arcadia was a nation that spanned over the area now known as Windrest Peak. During Arcadia's time, they built temples to worship Istaroth, the Ruler of Time, and Asmoday, the Ruler of Space. Arcadia was destroyed during the War of Funerary Flame, when it was buried under endless winter.
Sal Vindagnyr
Long ago, Dragonspine was a verdant mountain. The founders of Sal Vindagnyr discovered it while seeking refuge from a land of snow and strife and settled there, naming the mountain Vindagnyr. There, they were able to communicate directly with Celestia through divine messengers. However, they eventually met their end when Celestia sent down the Celestial Nail, now known as Skyfrost Nail, destroying their Irminsul tree and transforming the area into the blizzard-covered wasteland seen today.
Lang-Gan
Lang-Gan was a nation that spanned over the area now known as The Chasm. The nation was governed by Zibai as the divine envoy of Celestia. Lang-Gan got affected by Abyssal power within the shattered pieces of the moons, and Celestia decided to cleanse it with a Celestial Nail. The nation was destroyed, creating the Chasm, but Zibai sacrificed herself to stall the Nail enough that the survivors could be evacuated. They mainly settled in Chenyu Vale afterwards.
Delphi Pytho
Also known as Delphi, it was a nation that spanned over the present-day Inazuma. Little is known about Delphi other than its destruction during the War of Funerary Flame. A part of Delphi sank underground, leading to the creation of Byakuyakoku. The region suffered a great flood, which permanently shattered the land into separate islands.[8] There are remnants of the unified civilization in Tsurumi Island, Araumi, and beneath Amakumo Peak, all of which may have been part of Delphi.
Ys
Also known as the lost Ancient City of Ys, it was an ancient harbor located in what is now the Great Red Sand of Sumeru, which was eventually buried beneath the sands when the Celestial Nail descended from the sky.
Patraipolis
Also known as Patra, it was an ancient city known to the people of Sumeru.
Meropis
Meropis was the name for a region in present-day Fontaine. In ancient days, Meropis was where the souls of the dead gathered to be ferried to the Moon Capital for the final resting place. In later days, the god-king Remus alighted upon the shores of Meropis to found Remuria.
Hyperborea
Also known as the Golden City, Hyperborea was an ancient civilization located in present-day Snezhnaya. Hyperborea was led by Koitar, the First Angel, and aided by several Angels, including Nicole. Hyperborea was the main battlefield between the rebellious Angels, led by Koitar and Anacharsis, and the Heavenly Principles. The conflict ended in defeat, and Hyperborea was destroyed.
After the Funerary War
When the unified civilization was shattered during the war, a new set of ancient civilizations, mainly ruled by beings known as Gods, emerged from the aftermath of the war:
Decarabian's Mondstadt
After the fall of Arcadia, it became the home of its survivors. The original City of Mondstadt was located in what is now known as Stormterror's Lair, under the rule of Decarabian, the God of Storms. His death at the hands of his people led to the rise of Barbatos, who was at the time a mere wind spirit who had allied with the rebels.
Dornman
After the fall of Arcadia, the ancestors of the Gunnhildr Clan settled at Windrest Peak, where they built their own fortress. It was abandoned at the onset of the Archon War in favor of seeking refuge in Decarabian's city, and was ultimately restored to its former glory after Barbatos became the Anemo Archon.
Shanhui Fort
The Shanhui Fort was Morax's settlement on Mt. Tianheng before he led his people to the Guili Plains, where he would ally with Guizhong and Marchosius.
Chizhang
Chizhang was the city once ruled by the Mistress of Chenyu Vale. Following Morax's pacification of the region, the city was abandoned.
Guili Assembly
This once-prosperous civilization was jointly ruled by Morax, the Lord of Geo, and Guizhong, the God of Dust, and Marchosius, the God of Stove. It was destroyed by unknown means, during which Guizhong was slain, and the people of this nation were scattered. Morax eventually regathered their people and built Liyue Harbor 3700 years ago.
Sal Terrae
The last remaining piece of territory held by Havria, the God of Salt, before her death during the Archon War. Because she was a gentle but weak ruler, her people eventually lost their faith in her ability to protect them during wartime and chose to kill her before another god could destroy them, believing it would be a merciful end. However, this only led to their own destruction when the power that surged from her dying body turned everyone in the vicinity into salt.
Qingxu Pool
A little is known about this region, that was situated in the west to the Shanhui Fort. According to Roald the Adventurer and Soraya, the whole of Lisha region was covered by water at the time of the Archon War but before that it was a domain of some evil god, whose name has been wiped from the record, and its people.[9] The region was submerged until the end of the Archon war.
Tsurumi Island
The Thunderbird Civilization was the second civilization found on Tsurumi Island, postdated the Pre-Thunderbird Civilization, which was presumably a part of Delphi Pytho. They worshipped the aloof Thunderbird that called Tsurumi Island its home. However, after the human sacrifice of the Thunderbird's favorite child, the Thunderbird massacred the second civilization, leaving Tsurumi Island uninhabited and plagued by a vicious Ley Line Disorder.
Enkanomiya
After a part of Delphi Pytho was sunk underground, the humans established a nation known as Byakuyakoku. They had a relatively thriving underground civilization. They had libraries, research labs, recreational mazes, and vivid culture. It was home to an artificial sun that drove away Vishaps, an extremely skilled militia known as the Jibashiri, a ruling faction of nobles who committed fraud and human sacrifice, and historical records with secrets damning enough to condemn gods to an execution by Celestia. In the Archon War period, Orobashi fell into Byakuyakoku and agreed to liberate the people from the oppressive Sunchildren, and eventually led people aboveground, into a newly-created Watatsumi Island by Orobashi's scales. The Watatsumi Island people renamed Byakuyakoku to Enkanomiya since then.
Watatsumi Island
Watatsumi Island was once an independent nation, ruled by the god Orobashi along with its shrine maidens. Watatsumi coexisted with Inazuma, with both of them respecting each other's borders. However, one day, Orobashi attacked Inazuma's Yashiori Island and started a brutal war. During the war, Orobashi was slain by Ei, who was at that time the kagemusha of Makoto, the previous Electro Archon. The de facto rulers of Watatsumi during the war, the Sangonomiya Clan, declared surrender and accepted Baal's rule, and Watatsumi Island was absorbed into Inazuma.
Shogunate Cities
During the Archon War, Ei and Makoto unified all the tribes, bringing all of Inazuma’s islands under their rule. Among their cities were Mumei on Yashiori Island, which was devastated during the war against Orobashi's troops, and Araumi in the north of Narukami Island, which was ultimately abandoned during the Cataclysm.
Sumeru Civilizations
King Deshret's Civilizations were built in the desert of Sumeru. It was first the city of Ay-Khanoum, built by him, Nabu Malikata, and Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. Later, their alliance broke; Rukkhadevata separated to form her own kingdom in what later became the Dharma Forest, Nabu Malikata passed away, and Deshret went on to create the Eternal Oasis. Later, the city of Gurabad was created and eventually fell. Then, when the first forbidden knowledge plague happened, King Deshret sacrificed himself to seal it, along with Rukkhadevata expending a majority of her power. Deshret's civilization later fell, which led to the birth of several human-led city-states that in the end, also fell to ruins, while the survivors built what has become Aaru Village today. Other city-states were: Saleh, Tulaytullah, Akhtamun, Khaj-Nisut, Orghana, Beit-Raha, Tighnar, Setaria, and Muzaffar's city.
Tribes of Fontaine
The Tribes of Fontaine, also referred to by Remuria as the Northern Barbarians, were the various chiefdoms that inhabited Fontaine following the fall of Meropis and prior to the foundation of modern Fontaine under Egeria. After the conquest of Aremorica, Erinnyes united the northern tribes under the name of the Mistress of Many Waters, leading the resistance that would ultimately bring an end to Remuria's rule.
Remuria
Remuria was an ancient civilization ruled by Remus, who preceded the Hydro Archon Egeria's rule. Originally from Sumeru, Remus's land was conquered by King Deshret, leading him to move to Fontaine. There, he gathered followers, conquered other peoples of the region, and ruled as God King of his new nation, Remuria. However, his nation was fated to crumble due to the Prophecy of Fontaine. Remus, desperate to maintain his nation, fought hard against it, creating Golems made with his Golden Ichor for his people's souls to inhabit, weaving together the "melodies" of all his people together in an attempt to create one ultimate harmonious symphony to overrule the prophecy and fate that Celestia has cursed them with, and sharing his power and authority with his four Harmosts, humans with great talent to serve him. However, in the end, Remus's attempts to fight against the prophecy failed; he perished, and his nation and people sank under the High Sea. Now, the remains of Remuria can be found in the Sea of Bygone Eras.

Notes
- ↑ In Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview: Travail, Dainsleif suggests the Tsaritsa's ideal was originally Love. However, he refers to it in past tense, while Zhongli avoids speaking about it during Downtown, leaving it unconfirmed.
- ↑ Boundary was based on in-game testing with the Portable Waypoint and map reveal for each Statue of The Seven. Slight allowances were made due to differences in boundaries before and after unlocking portions of the map.
