Pure Fiction

Last updated 2026-09-03

"People often hold the belief that a document produced by a photocopier faithfully replicates its original, and they tend to trust that a story narrated by a parrot reflects truth." — Hellerdon, ██ Historian

Pure Fiction is a game mode within the Treasures Lightward section of the Interastral Peace Guide. It is unlocked after completing Adventure Mission Youci's Clever Decor, and can be accessed by speaking with Youci.

How to Unlock

To unlock Adventure Mission Youci's Clever Decor, the following quests must be completed:

Overview

Pure Fiction refreshes every 6 weeks, and contains score-based gameplay against continuously-replenishing enemies. It favors characters who can quickly defeat large amounts of enemies, such as most Erudition characters.

Each Pure Fiction phase consists of four stages, with Level 55/65/75/85 enemies for Stages 1/2/3/4, respectively. Each stage consists of two Nodes, which must be challenged by separate teams. One of three Cacophony buffs unique to each phase can also be selected for each Node to improve the corresponding team's performance.

Upon the start of a new Pure Fiction phase, a player can automatically unlock stages up to Stage 3 by clearing the corresponsponding stage in the previous iteration with 3 stars. Clearing a stage with 3 stars is also considered a 3-star clear of any easier stages.

Node Format

Each Node consists of a three-wave battle. Normal Enemies are afflicted with Fate's Convergence and will continuously replenish from a set pool of enemy types after being defeated. Completing a wave requires defeating the enemy afflicted with Binding Obligation.

  • Binding Obligation: (Unremovable) After non-Elite enemy targets are defeated, receive DMG based on a certain percentage of this unit's Max HP.
  • Fate's Convergence: (Unremovable) After being defeated, deal DMG based on a certain percentage of their Max HP to the Elite enemy target.

Wave 1 consists of normal enemies only, with the occasional rare enemy among them (Lordly Trashcan Lordly Trashcans with 60 Toughness and reduced stats prior to Version 4.0, or Furbo Journalist Furbo Journalists with 40 Toughness from Version 4.0 onwards), and the progress is displayed as the health bar of Fictional Ensemble afflicted with Binding Obligation. Defeating an enemy with Fate's Convergence will cause Fictional Ensemble to receive DMG equal to 5% of its Max HP. Therefore, completing Wave 1 requires defeating 20 enemies.

During Wave 2 and Wave 3, a stronger enemy with significantly increased HP and potentially altered Toughness is afflicted with Binding Obligation. Defeating an enemy with Fate's Convergence will cause this enemy (a Boss in Wave 3 of Stage 4 Nodes, an Elite Enemy otherwise) to receive True DMG equal to 3% of its Max HP, and when this enemy is defeated, the wave is considered complete.

Each Node is scored based on the damage taken by enemies with Binding Obligation. Wave 1 grants up to 8,000 points (400 per enemy defeated), while Waves 2 and 3 grant up to 16,000 points (40 for every 0.25% Max HP lost by the enemy with Binding Obligation), for a total of 40,000 points per Node. The overall score for a Stage is determined by adding the scores for both Nodes, up to 80,000 points.

Nodes last for 5 Cycles in Stages 1-2 and 4 Cycles in Stages 3-4. Action Value will not reset when a new wave starts. If time runs out or the team is defeated, the Node ends early, proceeding to either the next node or score finalization.

30,000 total points must be obtained to clear a Pure Fiction stage. Up to 3 stars can be obtained per stage by reaching the following thresholds:

  • Gain 40,000 points
  • Gain 50,000 points
  • Gain 60,000 points

Grit Effect

Pure Fiction battles contain stage buffs that are applied in two phase. The Concordant Truce phase is always active, while the stronger Surging Grit phase requires the battle's Grit Value to be filled to 100.

The battle's Grit Value is indicated by a graphic on the right side of the screen. Grit Value can be accumulated by defeating enemies (5 per enemy defeated) and by fulfilling conditions given by the Phase's Grit Mechanics. (The Node's selected Cacophony buff may provide additional Grit Mechanics.)

During the Surging Grit phase, up to 30 Resounding Tide can be accumulated by defeating enemies (5 per enemy defeated).

When Surging Grit is activated, a countdown timer will appear on the Action Order, with a fixed SPD of 100. When its turn starts, the Surging Grit phase is ended, and accumulated Resounding Tide is converted to the same amount of Grit Value.

Starward Mode

Clear Stage 4 in Starward Mode and score 99000 points to obtain a Prismatic Star and additional new rewards.
Collect a total of 12 stars and the Prismatic Star to obtain this period's Pure Fiction Limited-Time Clearance Medal.

Tutorial Pure Fiction Starward Mode 3
You can switch back to Regular Mode at any time to challenge Stage 4 of the regular Pure Fiction and obtain the original rewards.

Starting from Version 4.3, players who clear Stage 3 will unlock Starward Mode. Starward Mode is an alternate version of Stage 4 that adds a third Node, which must be challenged with a third seperate team. However, each Node can now be challenged independently and team lineups can be changed separately, similar to the Knight stages in Anomaly Arbitration. The maximum scores for each Node will be kept unless its lineup is changed or its equipment is reused in another Node.

To accomodate the additional stage, the clear and star targets are 1.5 times the original values, leading to a minimum requirement of 45,000 points and the following star targets:

  • Gain 60,000 points
  • Gain 75,000 points
  • Gain 90,000 points

Additionally, a Prismatic Star and a limited-time clearance medal can be obtained by reaching 99,000 points. Meeting this score requirement will unlock all rewards for the iteration even if the original Stage 4 lineup was not touched.

Legacy Mechanics

Prior to its rework in Version 2.7, Pure Fiction battles contained a single Whimsicality buff instead of the current Grit Effect system, a fixed amount of enemies per wave, and a different scoring system.

Waves were typically presented in the following format, with a maximum of 4 or 5 enemies on the field at a time depending on the battle and wave in question:

  • Wave 1: Either 12 Normal Enemies and 1 Elite Enemy, or 8 Normal enemies of 2 types and 2 Elite Enemies of the same type.
  • Wave 2: Either 12 or 10 Normal Enemies alongside two special enemies (Sequence Trotter Sequence Trotter with Weaknesses corresponding to the Node's recommended types pre Version 2.3, or Lordly Trashcan Lordly Trashcan with 50 Toughness and reduced stats from Version 2.3 onwards).
  • Wave 3: Either 24 Normal Enemies and 2 Elite Enemies, or 16 Normal Enemies and 4 Elite Enemies for Stages 1-3. Either 24 Normal Enemies and 1 Boss, or 12 Normal Enemies, 3 Elite Enemies, and 1 Boss for Stage 4.

The Wave 3 Boss in Stage 4 enters the battle with the Eloquence status:

  • Eloquence: (Unremovable) The target can only be defeated after a certain number of enemies have been eliminated. At the same time, the target will take significantly more DMG (Vulnerability +500%).

Scoring is based on the the damage dealt to each enemy as well as whether or not they were defeated, using the following system:

  • A Normal Enemy grants 500 points.
    • 300 points scale with the damage they take.
    • 200 points are granted when they are defeated.
  • A Sequence Trotter Sequence Trotter grants 2000/2500 points, depending on the enemy catalog.
    • 500/1000 points scale with the damage they take.
    • 1500 points are granted when they are defeated.
  • A Lordly Trashcan Lordly Trashcan grants 2000/2500 points when defeated, depending on the enemy catalog.
  • An Elite Enemy grants 2000/3000/4000 points, depending on the enemy catalog.
    • 1500/2000/2500 points scale with the damage they take.
    • 500/1000/1500 points are granted when they are defeated.
  • A Boss Enemy grants 8000 points.
    • 5000 points scale with the damage they take.
    • 3000 points are granted when they are defeated.

Waves 1 and 2 grant up to 10,000 points, while Wave 3 grants up to 20,000 points, for a total of 40,000 points per Node. The overall score for a Stage is determined by adding the scores for both Nodes, up to 80,000 points. The clear and star targets are the same as the current format.

Gameplay Notes
