Apocalyptic Shadow

Last updated 2026-07-27

"For her, this is a matter of faith. For me, it's just business. Oh, don't look at me like that! I may be a doctor, but this is Penacony after all!" — Dr. Edward

Apocalyptic Shadow is a game mode within the Treasures Lightward section of the Interastral Peace Guide. It is unlocked after completing Adventure Mission Grim Film of Finality, and can be accessed by speaking with Elegy.

How to Unlock

To unlock Adventure Mission Grim Film of Finality, the Trailblaze Mission The Public Enemy must first be completed.

Overview

Apocalyptic Shadow refreshes every 6 weeks, and tasks players with defeating modified, two-phase versions of Bosses and Echo of War enemies in a timely manner. The bosses presented vary heavily in terms of the characters they favor, but all focus on depleting their Toughness, directly and/or through unique methods.

Each Apocalytic Shadow phase consists of two Boss Mirages, one per Node. Four difficulties are offered, with the enemies at Level 60/70/80/90 enemies for Difficulties 1/2/3/4, respectively. Each Node must be challenged by separate teams, and one of three Finality's Axiom buffs unique to the phase and the boss can also be installed into each Node to improve performance.

Unlike previous Treasures Lightward modes, it is possible to challenge a specific Node directly, rather than having to complete both in sequential order. To change either side's lineup for a given Difficulty, however, the existing clearance records must be wiped, though any achieved reward thresholds will be retained.

Upon the start of a new Apocalyptic Shadow phase, a player can automatically unlock all Difficulties up to 3 by clearing the corresponding difficulty in the previous iteration with 3 stars. Clearing a difficulty with 3 stars is also considered a 3-star clear of any easier ones.

Ruinous Embers

All Boss Mirages possess the Steadfast Safeguard Status Effect, which reduces all damage they take by 50%. After Weakness Break is inflicted on them, Steadfast Safeguard is dispelled until the boss changes phases. While the Boss Mirage is Weakness Broken, Safeguard Breach causes them to take 100% more damage.

Additionally, Breaking the boss will also set its Action Value to 150, and any enemies they share HP with are delayed as well. At the same time, Ruinous Embers will bestow valuable boons on the player team, ranging from dispelling Crowd Control debuffs, to activating Ultimates, recovering Skill Points, immediately taking action, and fully restoring HP.

Additionally, Ruinous Embers typically provide unconditional buffs to certain types of damage.

Boss Traits

All Boss Mirages possess 2-4 Boss Traits. The first is the aforementioned Steadfast Safeguard buff, while the second describes changes made from their previous iteration. The third and fourth traits strengthen the boss further, though they only take effect starting from Difficulties 3 and 4 respectively.

A Challenge Strategy is also provided, replacing the usual Enemy Info tab with a summary of the boss's mechanics and how to counter them. This feature also provides notifcations at the top-right corner of the screen to guide players during the battle.

Scoring

Rather than measuring Cycles elapsed, Action Value is tracked directly, with a maximum of 2,000 allowed to complete each Node.

Up to 2,000 points can be obtained based on the percentage of the Boss Mirage's HP depleted before either time runs out or the player quits. (1,000 points per boss phase) If the Boss Mirage was defeated, any remaining Action Value is converted to the corresponding amount of points, resulting in a maximum score of 4,000 points. The scores from both Nodes are then added together to determine the player's final score, up to 8,000 points.

Both bosses must be defeated to clear an Apocalyptic Shadow difficulty, though it is possible to attain star targets without clearing the entire difficulty. Each stage has the following star targets per difficulty:

  • Gain 4,000 points
  • Gain 5,200 points
  • Gain 6,600 points

Starward Mode

Clear Apocalyptic Shadow Difficulty 3 to unlock Starward Mode.
Clearing Starward Mode Difficulty 4 requires challenging 3 Nodes.

Tutorial Apocalyptic Shadow Starward Mode 2
Clear Difficulty 4 in Starward Mode and score 10200 points to obtain a Prismatic Star and additional new rewards.
Collect a total of 12 Stars and the Prismatic Star to obtain this period's Apocalyptic Shadow Limited-Time Clearance Medal.

Tutorial Apocalyptic Shadow Starward Mode 3
You can switch back to Regular Mode at any time to challenge Difficulty 4 of the regular Apocalyptic Shadow and obtain the original rewards.

Starting from Version 4.3, players who clear Difficulty 3 will unlock Starward Mode. Starward Mode is an alternate version of Difficulty 4 that adds a third boss, which must be challenged with a third seperate team. However, team lineups can now be changed separately without completely resetting the mode's records, similar to the Knight stages in Anomaly Arbitration. The maximum scores for each Node will be kept unless its lineup is changed or its equipment is reused in another Node.

To accommodate the additional boss (which must also be defeated to clear the mode), the star targets are 1.5 times the original value, leading to the following thresholds:

  • Gain 6,000 points
  • Gain 7,800 points
  • Gain 9,900 points

Additionally, a Prismatic Star and a limited-time clearance medal can be obtained by reaching 10,200 points. Meeting this score requirement will unlock all rewards for the iteration even if the original Difficulty 4 lineup was not touched.

Nameless Honor Missions

This event added additional "This Period" Nameless Honor missions to the Nameless Honor. The Nameless EXP obtained from these missions do not count towards the weekly experience limit of 8,000 The Nameless EXP.
