"Does a motionless scale necessarily mean it's balanced? Anyone could name at least three counterexamples. But an Arbitrator can find a hundred reasons to refute them, and it's best to never argue with them at all." — Pseudo-Perfect, School of Relative Cognition

Anomaly Arbitration is a game mode within the Treasures Lightward section of the Interastral Peace Guide. It is unlocked after completing Adventure Mission Knot-Tier Saga, and can be accessed by speaking with the Voice of the Arbitrator.

Location

How to Unlock

To unlock Adventure Mission Knot-Tier Saga, Trailblaze Mission Trial of Equilibrium: Part Six must be completed and the player must have at least one instance of each of the following in their historical records:

Overview

Anomaly Arbitration refreshes with each Version update, and provides a significant challenge compared to other Treasures Lightward modes. Its rewards include Lone Stardust Lone Stardust, Interference Key Interference Keys, Self-Modeling Resin Self-Modeling Resin, and limited-time avatar frames of increasing rarity depending on certain clearance thresholds, which also reset at the end of the Version.

The mode consists of four stages: three Knight stages that must be challenged with separate teams and one King in Check stage available in two difficulties. All stages contain Enemy Traits that provide some form of enemy buffs or player debuffs, with stronger versions being denoted by "+" signs added to the end of the name. These Enemy Traits may be reused across different stages and/or phases.

Most stages are of a 1 to 3 wave format with a 1-5 Enemies per wave, reminiscent of battles in the Forgotten Hall. However, some waves may have a larger but still finite amount of respawning Enemies akin to the original version of Pure Fiction. Many stages also end with a Boss Enemy on the final wave, though this is by no means universeal.

In all stages, the first Cycle lasts for twice the normal length at 300 Action Value, but it will not reset when a new wave starts. If a stage lasts longer than 2 Cycles, the player's team will be given the Middlegame Mayhem buff at the beginning of each subsequent Cycle, increasing their final DMG by 50% for the rest of the battle (stackable). Each stage lasts for 6 Cycles, except for King in Check: Plight which lasts for 2.

A graphic on the right side of the screen displays the amount of Cycles used, the stars that can still be obtained in the current run, and a Game Progress meter which estimates the player's current progress through the stage with a percentage.

Knights

Knight stages consist of Level 95 Enemies, with 1-2 Enemy Traits per stage. Similar to other Treasures Lightward modes, the Knight stages require three unique teams, and the reuse of Light Cones or Relics between Knights is also forbidden. Attempting to change a team lineup for a stage after completion will prompt a warning that Battle Records will be reset for that stage, but star rewards will be retained.

Each stage has a maximum of 6 Cycles, and up to 3 stars can be earned per stage for a total of 9 stars by accomplishing the following:

  • Achieve victory in no more than 4 Cycles
  • Achieve victory in no more than 2 Cycles
  • Have no downed characters

King in Check

The King in Check stage pits a single team against an extremely difficult battle containing the phase's featured enemy, either a Boss Enemy or an Echo of War Enemy. This stage contains 2-3 Enemy Traits and higher-level enemies, but also allows the player to select one of three unique Arbitral Quadrant buffs to improve their team's performance.

Typically, if a Boss Enemy is featured, players must fight a wave of Normal and/or Elite enemies before the boss appears in the next wave; Echo of War enemies are usually the only enemy in the stage.

Initially, this stage is only available as King in Check: Plight, which possesses Level 120 Enemies, stronger Enemy Traits, and must be completed in a maximum of 2 Cycles. If the player completes this difficulty, the game will consider the Knight stages to be cleared with full stars and the King in Check stage to be cleared in 0 Cycles, meaning that players with a sufficiently powerful/well-invested team can beat it to quickly claim all of the phase's rewards.

For players who cannot clear the King in Check: Plight stage, the normal version is unlocked after all three Knight stages are cleared. This lower difficulty reduces Enemy Levels to 100, weakens Enemy Traits, and increases the maximum number of Cycles to 6. The Plight difficuly remains available and can be toggled on or off at the player's discretion.

Up to 3 stars can be earned from the King in Check stage by accomplishing the following:

  • Achieve victory in no more than 6 Cycles
  • Achieve victory in no more than 4 Cycles
  • Achieve victory in no more than 2 Cycles

Rewards

All rewards can also be obtained by clearing King in Check: Plight.
