Lore
Three of the weapons in this series recount history from Mondstadt:
- Disaster and Remorse
This Starsilver polearm once belonged to the outlander hero Imunlaukr, who witnessed the destruction of Sal Vindagnyr during the Funerary Year. Following this tragedy, he believed that the gods who destroyed the city only wishes to see blood and suffering, and came to be hunted by people of many lands. According to legend, he threw this polearm into the tide of abyssal monsters, laying waste to three nations and shattering the mountains themselves.
- The Daybreak Chronicles
This weapon recounts the history of the name Kreuzlied across Mondstadt, as a moniker used to describe people throughout its history. These individuals include the original Kreuzlied who fought against the Mondstadt Aristocracy and was quartered as punishment (hence the name), the Nameless Bard, Imunlaukr, the "Midnight Rogue," the Dawnlight Swordswoman, the original Gunnhildr & Ragnvindr, and Barbatos.
- Gest of the Mighty Wolf
A greatsword forged by Ravenwood. the second Knight of Boreas. The description recounts the arrival of the first such Knight to Mondstadt after the fall of the Aristocracy (around 1,000 years before the start of the game). This wandering knight's origins are left ambiguous, though it is said he was not from Mondstadt, Snezhnaya, or Nod-Krai, and paid in coins that no-one recognised. The only person to regard him as more than a drunk was Ravenwood, the blacksmith's son, who met the knight after Ravenwood's father created the greatsword Wolf's Gravestone for the knight. Ravenwood followed the knight around Mondstadt and learned the story of his nation of warriors which fell to strife and dishonor. After the wandering knight vanished, Ravenwood took up the mantle of "Andrius" in his stead and fought for the people, preserving his legend for posterity.
The other two weapons do not relate specifically to Mondstadt history:
- Angelos' Heptades
This catalyst once belonged to an angel of the Eternal Court. It recounts the story of how Nicole Reeyn, the youngest of the angels, was protected from the consequences of their rebellion and the following War of Funerary Flame by her elder sisters: Nabu Malikata, Sybilla, and Koitar. They believed that she was innocent and should have a chance to survive the confict to come even if they were to be punished for trying to attain freedom for themselves and humanity from the Heavenly Principles. After the fall of the angels, Nicole was left wandering the barren wastes alone, but in doing so came to appreciate the beauty of the world, and so gained a metaphorical "crown" of her own once more.
- Athame Artis
This sword comes from a fairy tale, much like Durin himself, to whom the weapon's mechanics are tailored. It belonged to the fictional Day King, who gifted it to the story's hero to fight the Night King. In the story's setting, the planet's surface crumbles into a black ocean when night falls, leading to an endless conflict between the Day and the Night, despite neither being able to perceive or touch the other. The little witch who the weapon's story focuses on found a perpetual motion machine (or Holy Grail) created by the Day King's army which turned seawater into an undying flame, but destroyed it using the sword to preserve the planet's ocean and lifeblood. This also resulted in the destruction of the Day King's army. The story may or may not be connected to the book The Little Witch and the Undying Fire, which is also referenced in Durin's Story Quest, The Magic Known as Storytelling. Like many of Andersdotter's stories, it may also be an allegory for real history.
Trivia
