Ineffa/Storyline
Last updated 2026-09-03
Ineffa is an advanced multifunctional robot created by Aino. She serves as her "parent" and is a revised form of Ix Raq'lapuj Chue'q Buluk, one of the original Thirteen Sovereign Lords of Natlantea.
Profile
Personality
Ineffa is generally level headed and has a neutral expression most of the time due to her robotic nature. She is very helpful and always listens to orders. She sees Aino as family. Unlike her contemptuous half, she bears no hostility towards humanity. Her built-in advanced technology causes her to be feared by some people and misleading rumors often spread about her being dangerous, though such rumors eventually proved unfounded. Nevertheless, she remains well-meaning and unassuming.
Appearance
Ineffa uses the medium female model. She is an artificial creation by Aino and resembles a human. She has light blue hair and eyes which can flicker to a darker shade of blue. Created in Nod-Krai, Ineffa's robotic appearance is further reinforced by being an amalgamation of various materials scavenged across the nations; she wears a headdress similar to the ones worn by the maids of Mondstadt, her knee joints are made from Clockwork Meka parts and her core originates from the Secret Source. Her "ears" are gray pieces and her right arm is able to transform into a broom/vacuum combo. She also wears a blue cloak.
When analyzing items or entering combat mode, Ineffa's eyes turn a bright teal/cyan color.
Ineffa's Electro Moon Wheel is found on the back of her cloak.
History
Past
Ineffa's originator, Ix Raq'lapuj Chue'q Buluk, was the Eleventh of the Thirteen Sovereign Lords during the era of the ancient dragons in Natlantea.[8] After Xiuhcoatl was defeated by Xbalanque, the Eleventh Lord fell into a state of despair, which split her mind into two cores; one that wished to explore and long for a home, and another that retained her hostile stance towards humanity. Approaching Lianca with the intent to be reborn, she asked her to eliminate her benevolent half, which had been placed in a Secret Source Automaton: Hunter-Seeker, lying that it was hostile to humanity. However, Lianca saw through her deceit and imprisoned the hostile half of the Eleventh Lord in the Temple of Cascading Colors, leaving her extremely bitter for the next two thousand years. Before being sealed away, she cursed her other half to suffer in pain for any ounce of goodwill it had towards humanity. Lianca would then send her benevolent half away from Natlan, fearing that her malevolent half would try to gain control of her. Before she left, Lianca would give her an inactive Moon Wheel that was formerly in the possession of Lianca's adoptive mother, the Eighth Lord.[8]
The benevolent half would end up in Nod-Krai and wander the land for two thousand years, before eventually falling into a state of disrepair. Eventually, the automaton would be discovered by Aino, who extracted the core and used it to create Ineffa, using her for her daily needs such as buying groceries and materials from Nasha Town.[9] The people were originally fearful of her, believing she could level the city, but she became accepted over the span of four weeks. Ineffa's creation would also result in Birgitta being revised for combat purposes. She was unable to think of a name, so she and Ineffa brainstormed some until she thought of "Birgitta," which Aino accepted.[10]
Upon learning that the Traveler had finished their travels in Natlan, Varka asked Aino to send a letter to them on his behalf. Around this time, Ineffa began to experience strange glitches, and Aino tearfully had Ineffa head to Natlan in order to resolve them and bring the letter to the Traveler. Ineffa boarded a ship with a group of people from Nasha Town who were going to return to their original nations due to the growing tensions in Nod-Krai.
Present
When the ship neared Natlan's shores, the glitches Ineffa had been suffering from began to rapidly accumulate. They were later accosted by several Hunter-Seekers, which prompted Ineffa to leap off the ship in order to keep them distracted. The ship safely arrived in Natlan while Ineffa washed ashore with Birgitta near the Flower-Feather Clan, where she was discovered by Chasca. Chasca brought Ineffa and Birgitta to her tribe, where Ifa inspected them, only to realize that she was actually a machine. The Traveler and Paimon later met up with them, learning that she was in possession of a cryptex which was addressed to the Traveler and Paimon. Due to her mechanical nature, they transferred her to the Children of Echoes to see if Xilonen could identify her. Xilonen was unable to, since Ineffa was made from an amalgamation of various materials from the nations. They tried to jog her memory with some success, only for her to suffer another glitch and launched a blast of energy at Paimon, which the Traveler was able to parry.
Shortly afterwards, Kinich and Ajaw arrived, who identified Ineffa as his target. The group initially believed he was there to destroy her, but Kinich clarified that he was looking for her as he had been commissioned by Ineffa's companions to look for her. They reunited with them outside the tribe grounds, who revealed why she had come to Natlan. During the conversation, Ajaw believed that Ineffa felt familiar, which Kinich took note of.[11]
Ineffa would spend a few days with the Flower-Feather Clan, fighting various threats which also involved a few more Secret Source Automatons. They questioned them over their behavior, and through the two of them, revealed that the Fatui were making them do so. The automatons also addressed Ineffa as the Eleventh Lord, which they took with some skeptcism as Citlali had told them that she believed Ineffa was the Eighth Lord. As they trailed Zhuoxin to the Fatui stronghold, Ineffa chased after him, prompting the Traveler and Paimon to follow suit.[12]
After rescuing Zhuoxin from the Fatui, Ineffa and the others ventured further into the domain and finally met the Eighth Lord. However, she quickly revealed herself to be the Eleventh Lord, having brought Ineffa back as part of the "curse" she inflicted on her so she could resume her war against humanity. Ineffa resisted her originator and even ripped her core out to stop her, but Velimiru, who had been chasing them, used a replica core to revive the Eleventh Lord. As the Eleventh Lord began to overwhelm the Traveler, Ineffa faced the curse and found the final "key" to break it. This resulted in her awakening the Moon Wheel that Lianca gave to her, which reforged her damaged core. Now free of her originator's curse, the two destroyed the Eleventh Lord and fled the collapsing ruins.
With her memories restored and her systems intact, Ineffa returned to the Flower-Feather Clan to bring the cryptex to the Traveler. She decided to take a short rest before she would bring the Traveler to Nod-Krai.[13] When the time came, Ineffa brought the Traveler to Nasha Town, where she gave the Traveler a brochure of the city and bought some items for Aino before returning to the Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop. Aino was delighted to see Ineffa again and had her recharge, with the two bidding farewell to them as they went forward to Hiisi Island.[14]
In anticipation of a Wild Hunt attack following an appearance in Starsand Shoal, Ineffa accompanied Aino in inspecting the Boom and Blast Kuuvahki Cannon. Aino asked the Traveler, Paimon and Sousi to help check some areas while she and Ineffa handled the other parts. Once the task was finished, Ineffa baked a krumkake for Paimon before she and Aino went to inform the residents that the cannon would be activating soon.[15] In their next meeting, Ineffa reminded Aino about the "new intel," which she told them was that Sousi had been murdered before she went to inspect the cannon's ammo.[16] While the Traveler and Flins were investigating Rerir's motives and realized it, Aino discovered that someone had activated her cannon and the people of Nasha Town were in panic over the revelation that the phantom could impersonate others. Ineffa took Aino to the cannon, subduing a runaway Knuckle Duckle. As there was no time to stop the cannon from firing, Aino ordered Ineffa to manually adjust it, which she did by forcefully adjusting the cannon until its ammo was spent.[17]
Shortly after this event, Jahoda insulted Ineffa, claiming that she was an "unfunny dumb-dumb metalface lunkhead," prompting Ineffa to ask Aino if she could update her sense of humor. Aino agreed and altered her sense of humor, upon which she immediately tried to crack some jokes at the Traveler. The Traveler instead cringed at the jokes, as they were just as bad as Cyno's, while Aino believed the update was working.[18] In spite of this, Aino quickly reversed the update, as they soon discovered the jokes were having less basis and being taxing on her logic module. She was picking some Lakkaberries for Aino when the Traveler ran into her, and she explained what had happened to the Traveler before handing them a recipe for Lakkaberry Krumkakes.[19]
Still unsure of Rerir's true motives, Ineffa reminded the group that if they failed to stop him in time, he would be unstoppable and would cause a catastrophe in the region. Though unsure of his insanity, Ineffa believed that he could be living in his own world. Flins suggested investigating both the Eye of Kratti and Pillar of Embla, but because both were so far from each other, Ineffa suggested they split up.[20] Ineffa later met with the others at the Secret Base and shared their findings with the others, who then decided she would investigate Amsvartnir on her own. She also assisted Aino in constructing and deploying faux Columbinas in order to distract Rerir.[21]
To restore Columbina's name, Nicole had the Traveler, Lauma and Arlecchino undergo a kuuvahki-attuning ritual that had them fast for three days; Ineffa watched over them to ensure they would be in good condition to go.[22] After the Traveler restored her name, Ineffa and the others went to Nasha Town to celebrate the Moon-Prayer Night, during which she and Aino were playing Kuuhenki Concentration. Aino accused Ineffa of cheating, only for the Traveler and Columbina to join in. After several games, they too discerned that she had been "cheating" due to analyzing the others' kuuhenki, which she defended by stating it was not against the rules. Nonetheless, they were unconvinced and plastered her face with stickers. She also showcased some of Aino's creations to the people of Nasha Town.[23]
To help the ratniki with maintaining basic tools during their patrols, Aino hosted engineering classes to teach them how to repair them without having to call her or Ineffa over. Unfortunately, most of these classes failed to get traction, as they would frequently make excuses to dodge the class. When Illuga arrived for one such class, Ineffa, having anticipated the numerous loopholes he would try to use to avoid class, preemptively handled them before he arrived. Her actions were cut short as Flins arrived to take Illuga away due to headquarters urgently calling for him.[24]
When Nasha Town held their annual trade expo, the Traveler was tasked by Jahoda to find Aino and Ineffa, as they had not arrived. They went to Aino's home, finding both as Ineffa observed Aino finish debugging her new defense bots. Since she was not comfortable with many strangers in a clumped area, Aino had Ineffa run the stall for her, explaining how the bots worked and played several simulated war games with the Traveler as an attacking enemy. During the expo, a punk tried to stir trouble but was scared off by Ineffa, Jahoda, Aino and her bots.[25]
